Without them, I wouldn't be as fond of the game. In the base game, the main thing keeping it enjoyable are the controls. Particularly in the open zone, since Cyberspace has to make them worse for some reason. Even so, Cyberspace controls alright. The controls get really bad in 2D in both modes, and those are the only points where I truly dislike the game. The open structure of the game is fun to mess around and experiment with the controls, but I prefer more linear challenges. I conceptually liked the tower climbs, even if they were very basic and easy. Other than that, Ares was the most enjoyable part of the base game. But that's the base game, which I wasn't very satisfied with. Update 1 made the simple change of offering a more linear experience for replayability, for Cyberspace and the combat, which made it a lot more enjoyable to replay, since it gives me immediate access to the more fun parts without forcing the movement sandbox. Then update 2 added challenging platforming to the open zone. I wish they made a linear arcade version of those as well. The Spindash made Cyberspace more fun too. And finally, update 3 added a ton of stuff. I'm glad they finally did something creative and that they used other playable characters again. My favorite part of the update is still playing as Sonic. The tower climbs are fun, long, and challenging (wish they had a sort of ranking system or timer, or linear modes from the menu again). The new cyberspace stages are fun too (again, I wish I could access them from a menu). Update 3 is unpolished and low budget, even more so than the base game, but I appreciate what it does and it's the best part of the game. I hope the next game expands on it, but people complained that they needed to do platforming in a platformer, so they probably won't.
