Still playing my game on master. Nearly have a few things upgraded to the point where I'd feel safe taking them out into the field, shit is so expensive I won't take better gear because maintenance is too high for most of it without the wear and tear upgrades. For reference I have a saiga nearly ready, a kharod, and the Spark SEVA suit nearly upgraded all the way. I tried running them for a while and it was just too much upkeep.

RE9 had me thinking how fucking kino it would have been for the Bar to be abandoned and become part of the Wild Territory. They could have even used the adjacent parts that were out of bounds in SoC as recreations of the Rostok factory as it is in buildo and OLR.

Why do you not recommend the RenoDX mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?
SDR or HDR, the game's graphics are broken without it and if there is one must-have mod that partially mends it it's this one.
In both the black floor is raised because of the incredibly shitty(not an exagerration) UE5 noisy dithering used that will raise pixel values by 1 even in locations so dark the entire screen should be RGB 0,0,0 except the HUD if present, the effective result is that to the human eye pixels that should be turned off on OLEDs will look between RGB 1,1,1 and 0,0,0(full black), on LCDs it will raise the already bad minimum brightness of the screen.
Also the fixes/improvements it offers to the game's shader code are nice to have.

Unfortunately the game can't reference ballistics tables, because identical ammo performs differently out of different barrels. Hence the rise of funky shit like 300 blackout for carbine ar's and crap.

Stalker sets stats by the bullet and the gun. The bullet therefore is almost /identical out of wildly different barrels w/ twists etc.

Hell they can't even model the effects of putting rattlecans on and overgassing from that etxlc.

Compass did a little bit of everything. Can't remember exactly cause I gave it to Beard.

The Heart isn't entirely useless. The Bubble was beefed up too, doing -6 rads instead of -4 like in vanilla. So you just need two Bubbles, which I have! Garry gives you one if you finish his quest and I found another in Pripyat under the department store. Don't know if it was a fixed spawn or not.

With the Heart + SEVA upgrade and my two Koloboks I have like +15 health restoration.

I honestly wasn't a fan of the artifact changes from SoC. I didn't mind having to use a detector to find them, but the artifacts felt better in the original game. And having to upgrade suits to have more artifact slots felt like I'm getting cheated.

I'm also completely spoiled by AMK mod having the ability to transmutate artifacts into really strong ones in anomalies.

One of the biggest contributors to AK74's unimpressive shot groupings is its heavy asymmetrical bolt moving back and forth and hitting the receiver at high speed, which increases vibrations and throws off the aim up-and-right
There is no such issue in neither AR-15 nor AR-18 platforms since a) the bolt carrier group is much lighter, b) it is largely symmetrical so it doesn't throw off your aim to the side and c) most of them have recoil buffer which softens the impact. There is nothing to counterbalance because most of AR's recoil impulse comes from cartridge itself (same reason AEK-973 in 7.62x39 never left the prototype stage)

There was a definitely some memery here and there, and some other minor stuff which I didn't like. But aside from that, what did I think of the mod?
I must say that playing Misery 1.2 was a pleasant surprise. 1.2 is pretty outdated, the newest release of Misery for CoP is 2.2 and I have no idea what that version is like, but I can definitely say that I enjoyed my time playing 1.2.
It's no secret that CoP is the most accessible out of the original trilogy. The vanilla game is piss-easy and really lacks that feeling of a threatening, alien Zone that SoC had. Everything feels very safe and secure. The levels are designed around a hub where you can get anything you need. I've seen CoP described as a theme park, which honestly isn't far from the truth.

That's where Misery 1.2 comes into play. I understand this style of gameplay is not for everyone but in my honest opinion, this particular version of Misery is an improvement over the base game. With Misery 1.2, the Zone felt threatening again. Leaving the safety of the Skadovsk felt like delving into dangerous territory. Going out unprepared had consequences, while in vanilla you can just kinda sail through most everything. I enjoyed this style of gameplay as, in my opinion, it makes things much more engaging.

The mod forces you to adopt a style of gameplay different from vanilla. I want to mention that I once saw a forum post by a Misery dev, where he explained that if something was too difficult, the player was expected to retreat, do something else, get better gear, etc... Then come back and try again. I kept this in mind during my playthrough and I tried not to "strain against" the mod, so to speak.
For example, Owl's gas tank for the Bloodsucker Lair quest was pretty heavy. I had found some weapons, which I didn't want to leave, but carrying them and their ammo along with the gas tank just wasn't working. I was too overencumbered and could only walk a few steps at a time. So, I decided to stash most of my ammo and weapons at the bridge. I was able to take only one AK with me, which had a single magazine loaded, which had to last me to the bloodsucker lair and back to the bridge. Once I was done, I went back to the bridge and got my weaponry back.
Enemy encounters work differently in situations like these. When I was low on ammo like that, I had to decide whether to risk combat or evade safely, depending on my finances and resources at the time. This pretty much only applied to the hobo phase, though.
Once I got into this mindset, I was having a lot of fun with Misery 1.2.

So, what did I like and dislike about the mod?

Misery gets a rep for being horribly balanced against the player. Misery 1.2 is actually balanced very nicely! Misery 1.2 is difficult but not unfair. The hobo phase is brutal, you die a lot and pretty much have to scrounge around just to survive. Beard's mission to get that anomalous wheel was a real pain. Radiation is also a pain cause it doesn't decrease on its own, you must use antirads or an artifact to get rid of radiation poisoning.
However, once you get decent gear things become much easier. For example, once you get an artifact that recudes radiation it becomes a non-issue. A Jellyfish spawns by default in Zaton, and with it I could walk around with no worry about radiation.
Once you get a better suit you stop dying all the time. You can pretty much use whatever guns you want as they're all pretty lethal. My shitty Skorpion sidearm was powerful enough to kill a boar with one burst.
Once I was in the mid-to-late game it was pretty much like SoC. Swimming in cash and artifacts. There is also plenty of good loot to be found in stashes.

The economy isn't bad. It's not that things are expensive, you just don't make a lot of money at first. But once I got a detector (you get one from Beard early in the questline) and could go artifact hunting, saving up money got pretty easy. Some quests also pay very well. Suit and weapon upgrades are pretty cheap, too.
One annoying thing is that traders offer a lot of stuff, but not a lot of said stuff. For example, they all only stock one clip of each ammo type they sell. This was obviously done to limit resources but it's kinda pointless, as in CoP you can just save your game and reload to refresh their trader inventories.
Some things also didn't make sense, like Hawaiian selling 5.45x39 ammo but not the armor-piercing variant of it. Yet, he sells both types of 5.56x45 ammo. Sometimes it felt like certain things weren't for sale solely for the reason to limit player access to them.

The brown-grey color palette of Misery gets undeserved hate. I say this as someone who used to hate it. I suspect it's hated on solely for being tied to Misery and being starkly different from what the vanilla games look like. While I prefer a greener Zone, Misery has a specific look that fits the mod well.
It's unfair to generalize things by claiming the devs just desaturated everything. If you play the mod, it's clear that they were aiming for a specfic look. It actually looks pretty good at times. Pripyat also looks great with the color palette.

We all know about Misery and its derivatives pulling some retarded bullshit in the name of (artificial) difficulty, aptly referred to as "memery". So, for the purpose of this review, what can be counted as memery?

I consider memery to be any feature that is unfair to the player and/or cannot be logically justified. For example, mutants and guns in Misery do a lot of damage. The player can easily die to a few tushkano if he's not careful. However, tushkano can be killed with a single bullet. Guns will kill both you and NPCs with a few shots. I was dropping Monolith with a single burst of my AKS-74u. This also made firefights very exhilarating.
So, while the enemy hits hard, so do you. Which makes things fair.

I've played Anomaly and Dead Air before. Knowing these mods have their origins in Misery, I went in expecting some serious memery. To my surprise, I only encountered four instances that I would count as memery.

>actor stamina drain
This wasn't as bad as the other stuff but still enough to be annoying. If I was well-fed and at low carrying capacity, the stamina drain was fine. But as soon as I started packing on some loot I was running out of stamina regularly. Very annoying consdering how big the CoP maps are.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has three movement modes: walking, running and sprinting. And running is what happens with the W button. I suspect the devs intended for the player to hold down X to walk across the fucking maps, which is just straight retarded. I modded my actor.ltx so the stamina drain was more like SoC.

Medkits in Misery heal about 1/6th of your health. This is just retarded. It is worth noting that I picked the Recon class because it gave bonuses to healing item use and suit condition, and even with that bonus the medkits heal that little.
I suspect this might've been done to make the player rely more on the base medics, or making things more difficult by having limited options to heal out in the field. If I wanted to fully heal, that meant having six or more medkits with me when I left base. The Recon class has a base carrying capacity of only 30kg, so that was out of the question.
Ultimately, this feature just felt annoying. Getting into a tussle, losing health, and not being able to fully heal until I got back to base was extremely tedious. I ended up modding the medkits to heal about 3/4th of my health bar. The medkits also had negative fettles, like stamina drain and making the player sleepy, so I also removed those fettles. The mod became much more enjoyable after that.


>Anomaly Research quest
That quest where the scientists have you escort a group of stalkers to take anomaly measurements. At the Ash Heap anomaly, where zombied stalkers come shambling out of the nearby village, the mod suddenly spawned about six or eight zombied stalkers RIGHT next to the stalkers.
This was complete memery. Spawning hostile NPCs out of thin air, right next to the stalkers I'm assigned to protect, giving me no chance to work around it. And it wasn't a glitch, it happened at the same time, every time like clockwork.
I suspect this was done because the Misery devs found this part of the quest too easy. Which is completely true, this part is pretty easy. You can just pick the zombied off as they approach the hill. Which is fine! It's fun! Not everything has to be a ballbuster.
I countered this by modding my AKS to do 500 damage with each hit. After I killed the meme zombied, I changed it back. Fuck that.

Sniper rifles (and for some retarded reason also the binoculars) have INSANE weapon sway. That shit was like the DVD menu when you left the DVD player idle back in the day. This sway only applied to snipers and the binocs. My AKS-74u had a scope and it was very steady.
Now, the Sniper class in Misery gives a bonus to aiming sniper rifles, giving players with that class an ability to steady their scope. This is probably the reason for the insane weapon sway, to make the Sniper class actually matter. This could very well be justified as it makes sense. If you're gonna use sniper rifles, of course you'd pick the Sniper class.
HOWEVER, there is a story mission in CoP called One Shot, where the player is forced to use a sniper rifle! If you did not pick the Sniper class, this mission is pretty much impossible. My scope swayed like I was drunk, then the mercs yeeted me from the ground with an RPG. Cool. I was forced to edit effectors.ltx to reduce the weapon sway in order to finish the quest.
The devs should have recognized this as a huge issue. Potentially locking the player out of a story mission can never be justified.

Not really memery, but the mod is way too dark. Sometimes it would be pitch-black and it wasn't even nighttime. Checking the user.ltx, r2_sun_lumscale_amb was set to a whopping zero. I assume this was done to give the mod a grimdark look but holy fuck, interiors were nearly pitch-black all the time and contrast in general was too much. They went way too far with this one.
Setting r2_sun_lumscale_amb to 1 seems to be a nice balance.

Aside from that, nothing really stood out as bad. No real bugs to speak of, the mod is very stable. Owl sometimes gives you less money than he says he'll give you. I'm not sure if that was a bug or a feature. Zulu's drinking dialog crashed at one point cause vodka hits harder in Misery than in vanilla, causing the dialog to break where it shouldn't have.
Misery has psi-storms, which feel stupid and unnecessary. Just stick with emissions, why do we need two types of them?
The gas tank for the Bloodsucker Lair quest weighs 10kg. Might've been a good idea to lower it a little, especially considering the player's carry weight is usually lower than in vanilla.
Zombied stalkers are bullet sponges but headshots drop them pretty easy.

Towards the end, as I reached Pripyat, the mod got a little boring. In Pripyat, you can of course get free ammo and meds from the guys in the Laundromat. I felt like there was no real threat anymore. I was kinda hoping that I was going to have to hobomode again for a little bit until Garry got to Pripyat.
This isn't really a fault of Misery, however, more just CoP being way too easy.

My endings were mostly good. I got the bad ending for Pripyat and Vano. Too many of the military guys died in the Unidentified Weapon mission and I think Vano died on his way back to the Laundromat after the mission in the Book Store.
The Evacuation mission was surprisingly not as difficult as I thought. Made it out with everyone except Vano and the guys who died in the Unidentified Weapon mission.

Final words? Misery 1.2 comes recommended if you're looking to replay CoP with a twist. Good hunting, stalker.

Once when I was modding SoC, an audio file for the cat mutant was missing its metadata. When the audio file was played it caused pretty much every stalker on the map to go into alert mode. That could be happening in your game, maybe the freeze is from a whole bunch of NPCs/mutants switching behavior states.
Did the freezes happen when you're around NPCs or mutants?

I've had this exact scenario happen to me way back in the day when I was first modding SoC with OL 2.2. I believe I had reloaded an old save that I'd made before installing the mod and killed some Freedom dude in their base. When I looted him, he had between 6 -7k rounds of 5.56 in his inventory. I'm assuming this is the amount assigned to NPC's and when they die, there's some script that's supposed to generate some rng amount of it in their inventory to not completely break the game in terms of balance. Sometimes it breaks...

The part that infuriates me the most is, with this being an open world game, you get no feedback on what to bring. I brought a shotgun, and Korshunov melts you so fast good luck getting in range. I'm forced to use my Dnipro with AP rounds (fully upgraded, btw, including the extra AP damage from a blueprint) and it still feels like I'm tickling him. Who would've thought going into an underground tunnel segment would mean they aught to bring a sniper? Not me, and I'd wager not most players.

This isn't quite as bad as the Faust fight, which forced me to lower down to STALKER difficulty because by the time I reached Faust (because you have to fight through his entire base first) my weapons were so fucked up they malfunctioned every other shot. Debating lowering the difficulty again, only to be done with this fucking game. 7/10 overall, very disappointed.

Sounds like a massive skill issue. Faust wasn't hard at all if you prepared properly and didn't intentionally destroy all three of your guns like a retard. Korshunov is a bit tough, but you just need to actually position yourself properly and play smart. High bar for most people these days. I only died to him a couple times because I was either in a bad position or tried to heal while the healing animation got interrupted by something.

Re-read my post retard. It's an open world game. You have no idea how long a mission will run, what you aught to bring, anything along those lines. At least this Korshunov fight told me there was no going back, so I knew coming in it was end-game territory and end-game=big fight so I came loaded with guns. But again, the game told me it'd be an underground bunker/tunnel. Who hears that and thinks "ah yes, let me bring my long range rifle to this area". Maybe you, because you seem retarded, but not me.

But dismissing mechanics that are widely outdated (outdated because they are hated, other games have done these things before and it's a meme at this point) with "skill issue" is exactly why Stalker 2 isn't as good as any of the other games. I'm fine with a bullet sponge boss. I actually expect it. Hold it right there, boomer. Not because I couldn't figure out the button pressing (also a horrible design for a boss, but never mind that) but because Scar was one-shotting me THROUGH THE GOD DAMN WALL. Apparently, from what I gathered since an update, it is well known enemies have wallhacks. Something about the devs "fixing" the AI being able to see and shoot through shrubbery/foliage (still not 100% reliably fixed btw, but once again, never you mind that) but it broke the AI and walls. I wish I would've recorded it, but when I was in Pripyat, I saw a Duty guy fucking unloading his LMG into a massive commie block apartment... With no one inside. I ran to the other side, low and behold, Monolithians also doing the same. Blasting into the wall, then at me once alerted. This game is still fucking broken, which was the main reason I held off for so long. Another example I recall, fresh in my head, was storming the Red Fortress. That bit where you scale the scaffolding, I was getting shot by Monolithians several layers above me that miraculously, I myself could not see. This is also a skill issue, I am sure.

Nah man, overall, this game was average. They got the atmosphere and visuals pretty close, which funnily enough, I thought would be the hardest thing to achieve. Everything else is a mixed bag, and the boss fights were putrid shit. I don't even think Stalker 2's combat is really meant for boss fights, they should've avoided the idea entirely. Shooting glowy bits, "this boss is unkillable until you press a button", we're going to spam chaff enemies at you, "you have to shoot this boss until he just stands there stunned, then run up and watch a cutscene, then do it again and he dies". It's all not just bad, it is terrible.

Tried playing that newer version of LFO, last one I tried was years ago.
It's not the most stable, and the balance just felt kinda all over the place. The economy is a joke(you'll easily amass items/money), and mutants are absolute pushovers. Most go down in one shotgun blast, and are mostly too passive to do any damage before dying. Fighting enemy stalkers felt alright, damage seemed fine but they aren't particularly smart. Most of the guns I found looked/felt good, upgrade system got expanded a bit.
It's a shame, they added new maps and tweaked existing ones, but I'm not gonna keep playing to see most of them. Some parts really did have a lot of effort put in but there's some core stuff that really wasn't doing it for me despite seeming like my kind of mod.

I am not complaining a fucking gauss rifle can shoot through walls. I am complaining the AI is broken, and they can detect my exact location through solid matter. This wouldn't be as bad if you were, say, unloading an LMG into solid cover thinking "I've got a lot of bullets, and I know they are back there, surely ONE of these will get him". Were that the case, I'd even give gsc props for good programming. But a fucking gauss rifle through cover? A precision weapon that requires charging between shots? No. It's amplified x10 in bullshit factor because the difficulty I played at made the gauss a 1 hit kill on me. Getting 1-tapped through walls, in some cases when Scar didn't even have the angle to see me get behind said wall, is indefensible. It isn't fun, it isn't fair, and it is not good design. But what did I expect from the same people thinking having me press a button on a wall to stun him was also a good boss mechanic? Why would Scar even set up to fight me there? That was where he decided to ambush Skif. He could've done it anywhere, and he chose the room with stun buttons. Do you even hear yourself man? Nothing here makes sense. You're standing in a pile of shit trying to convince me it smells like roses.

Same happens to me. The console was always weird with keyboards. The plus button on my keyboard, next to zero, writes an underscore into the console if I hit it while holding shift. I think you can also just copy/paste it into the console with Ctrl + V.

I've started Stalker 2. Seems alright so far. I am only 7 hours in or so. One feeling I cannot shake is the combat feels off. Human to human it is fine. Bleeding feels a bit much, and I do feel the AI is a bit frustrating. Tactically, they don't seem to flank or push. Just sit behind cover and blast from miles away, but I guess it is serviceable. I more so am talking about the mutant combat feels off. That one attack bloodsuckers do that knocks you on your ass. I just feel slow and weighty, and it feels worse against mutants that so far seem very spongey but nimble. I also am annoyed about the dogs attacking like kamikazes. Really seems like dogs should run away after you thin out the pack, or fuck them up enough like in the other games. That's a minor issue, but it adds to the pile of problems I have with all the mutants. They just aren't fun to fight.

I've played that Scar fight. Yeah he can shoot you through cover that he literally just saw you walk through, then he stops until he gets an idea of where you are. You'd prefer retard AI that forgets where you are the millisecond you're in shadow or crouched.

The mutants are awfully designed and I got bombarded with git guds for thinking the bloodsucker knockdown, on top of their non-patched health regen, was bullshit and unfun unless you like camping on a box for close to ten minutes.
Honestly thought the fights against stalkers/humans was pretty fair and close to generous considering how many health items the game throws at you but the mutants went from scary to annoying which just makes them suck dick.

no, console has nothing to do with it.
you just add it to your user.ltx and now once in game those keys are what controls what cam you're using. F9 is default, F10 is perspective, F11 is cam control

those keys won't show in the user's controls configuration menu
unless you add them to \config\ui\ui_keybinding.xml, which you would probably have to unpack from .db's, edit, then put in your gamedata folder as I have for the video here.

So, I don't know how the fuck you're supposed to survive that emission, cause I looked up a Youtube video of some dude doing a playthrough and he too could not hide from the emission. Maybe that was a feature of buildo at some point? He could survive by using medkits but I'm playing on master so the fucking emission just nukes me immediately.

Whatever the case, I maxed out my radiation and telepathic immunities in the actor.ltx and survived the emission. Even with my radiation immunity maxed out I STILL took a hit.
