I'm not the one who started the discussion but I agree. The closest thing to dark this franchise ever got was SATAM. Most of Sonic is pretty light hearted and unserious. This is a series where the moon gets blown up and the planet cracks apart and no real catastrophes or mass death is shown or referenced. The darkest the games got was Sonic being tortured for 6 months but that's not treated as if it's serious either.When I think of franchises with dark universe I think of Kirby where most of the universe is cold and dead with monsters lurking in the darkness. WH40k obviously. Kenshi. The Binding of Isaac. Things that intentionally focus on dark aspects of their world. Sonic doesn't do that at all almost which is why shit like SA2's story and Shadow's lore stand out so much.
