It shouldn't be to hurdle forward in a straight line as quickly as possible, and this was never the point of the Genesis games or even SA1.Sonic is speed+platforming+exploration, and the other characters should provide an alternative way to experience these things. The differentiation itself is what makes the game compelling, engaging, and fun. Making them all reskins of Sonic is an utter waste.
