>>559269687man, we need to go back to the simpler timesnow if you try to make a game because something has inspired you so much, even if you're not going to sell it - there's a huge chance the devs are going to get uppity unless you either make it "legally distinct" or get their blessing beforehandi've been in deeper indie dev circles and i've witnessed shitty dramas because some guy started making sprites in a vaguely similar style to the one that was in the upcoming game which inevitably made the fagdev loose his shit with a clique of yes-men creating an echo chamber to get his approvalwhy have people stopped treating the fact that someone is using something you've made as a basis for their own work not as a compliment of the highest order but as some sort of personal assault at artistic integrity

While waiting for the release of the big roguelike deckbuilder I've been playing a few of the ones in my backlog. In this case menace from the deep and its DLC, a game where the power of friendship made me 99% invincible but almost got me killed because the medic, dog and policeman I hired to assist me simply refused to attack the eldritch abominations driving me insane so I had to rely on an artifact adding free bricks to throw into my deck for longer fights. Less bad on the random mobs since you can stall most of them infinitely but the bosses all have a sanity damage attack in their rotation so they were on a soft timer. Also almost lost to running out of gas in my car but that seems like a meta-progression issue

2 hours into Dread Illusion and it's kinda meh. I hate to make uncalled comparisons but Avowed just tugged on my brain way more as first person action rpg parcour with mushrooms and old gods.I took the 20 agi passive because it said faster running and higher jumping but you can't jump on shit and jumping against an edge throttles your peak jump massively. Environments are nice but lack shadows and lighting to really sell the gloomy look. Stamina system is pure shit. Lockpicking is a literal dice roll. And I regret speccing mage because I still don't have a fun starter spell. Just teleport home and bewitching the enemy to fight for you.Oh yeah the one singular background song is also no good enough to keep looping it like this.

>>559449542How did you miss the 3 March release date splashed in the demo and store page if you're aware it had a demo?
>>559424891>>559449542I liked the start well enough, had a lot of hopes when the the game allowed me to restore some ancient eldritch god to power. But then it quickly devolved into zooming around gigantic maps skipping as much of the unengaging combat as possilble. The undead zone and the underlands (I think that was the name?) were pure nightmare, started getting an headache playing through them actually.Very disappointing game whose setting and art direction aren't enough to carry its horrendous gameplay loop. A lot of half assed mechanics that don't really serve a purpose like the reputation system or the manor base. The stats are also pretty irrelevant to your gameplay, since you can't actually play stealthily and you will end up using your weapon as mage unless oyu wanna drink a potion every two minutes. You will also max them all easily if you do the content so really it just serves lock you off of the specific stats check requiring your lowest stats, but even there you won't feel it since the rewards are always of the same kind.Overall I genuinely think it's an pretty bad game, at times (mostly in the endagme because the game will have drained you and you're still doing the exact same content as the 1st hour) even terrible.
Some of the side jobs, especially the higher paying ones are a it ridiculous though. How am I supposed to find a person based on only this info. At least the other job where I only know the Blood Group and Eye Color gave me the building they live in
Over 3 hours till I finally got a spell. I saw the boss in the bandit fort use it on me and got so mad that he didn't drop it or have it lying around in a book. Which also reminds me how little is interactable in the game. So many shelves and books lying around but none have an interaction for lore and local gossip. Having to sleep to have the store restock lockpicks was also more annoying than it had to be. I's also quite bug heavy with stuff like paintings just zooming into a forever pillar and such.>>559449542Bethesda kids will just yell Oblicion/morrowind/Skyrim at any fps rpg, it can't be helped.>>559455357Yeah not surprised about any of this. Also I swear the character you played looked exactly like picrel, sunglasses and all, at least when I saw people spread that image I thought that game was where it's from. But apparently it's just from some emoticon pack or something. Also I think either you or the enemies might have had access to different guns. The setting might have been vaguely Egyptian tomb-esque, but I could be completely off or maybe it was just a handful of levels since I think we never got far.And I went to that school from 2006 to 2008 so it has to be older than that.

>>559503891Samosbor is a weird setting coming from the Russian 4chan. It's kinda like the backrooms or SCPs, except it hasn't yet been ruined.
>>559507757>the backrooms or SCPs, except it hasn't yet been ruinedWhat's funny to me is how the backrooms, from what I saw, have been ruined in a very similar way to how some of Lovecraft's works have been ruined: by trying to categorize them and making up some overarching lore and shit.In the case of Lovecraft, I don't like it when people try to connect the dots of his pantheon, explain which gods came from where, have which aims, are related etc. They are supposed to be obscure and unknowable, categorizing them ruins the point. And the one time I looked into it, the same happened to the Backrooms, where it's no longer just this fun little creepy internet story, but apparently there are now different versions and layers to the Backrooms and each of them have their rules and lore and that's just so besides the point man.>Russian 4chanfun place, used to lurk there a lot, until it become insufferable in 2022 (at least the boards I hung out on). Haven't checked back since.
>>559508237Lovecraft has also been ruined by Derleth, who tried to have good ancients, and bad ancients.I started hating the backrooms when they introduced levels, but the final nail was when they introduced monsters and started bullying everyone who didn't follow their headcanon.
>>559508373>I started hating the backrooms when they introduced levels, but the final nail was when they introduced monsters and started bullying everyone who didn't follow their headcanonDamn, makes me glad I never looked into it more. I've just seen that there are a billion games based on it and was confused how the fuck that's even possible, since it's supposed to just be this weird empty space. The Lost in Vivo bonus level was cool and I was confused how you'd want to make a whole game based just on that.>Lovecraft(spoilers ahead, for anyone who hasn't read, I guess)Honestly for me even Mountains of Madness was a bit too much. I know for many people it's their favorite story and I can see why. But the way the second half went into this expansive timeline of who lived on the earth before us and how was a bit too much for me. Sure it;s its own kind of horror to suddenly find out there were whole civilization here before humanity that we never knew about, but I wish it would have been less explicit. Or maybe I'm misremembering and it wasn't as bad. That's why I love Color out of Space so much, the "villain", if you can even call it, just feels like an unknowable force of nature and it's 50/50 if it even has a goal it consciously or unconsciously tries to achieve or is just a radioactive magic rock from space.
>>559509227It's a shame, because I like the concept, but the backrooms are best used as what they are: holes in reality. MyHouse.wad and Abiotic Factor used the backrooms in the best way possible, but when they're the main focus, they suck.I mean, one thing I read is that the backroom smell of almond. It's meant to evoke cyanide and the idea that you're a dead man walking. Yet all the backrooms games feature "almond water" as some HP-recovery item. For me, Call of Cthulhu is the best, but I'm a sucker for these stories where you get different accounts from different places and they finally converge together at the end.Or when gentlemen meet up in a fancy club, and exchange odd occurences that happened to them all but all share a common them, and the movie played on that perfectly.I always thought the Colour was sentient, but not intelligent, more like acting by instinct. It just happened that even its instinct was smart beyond human comprehension. But yeah, it depends a lot from the interpretation. Lovecraft's novels, by themselves, are not fun to read, but the Call of Cthulhu movie, I loved it, and a few cases of the mangas are bonechilling. Like that one where a guy get obsessed with a belltower, and, one night, something breaks out of the belltower, but rather than flying away, comes to stare at the guy, directly through his window. He gets so scared he dies right away.I think it was the Lurker in the Dark.
>>559509227>>559508373My fav Lovecraft is The Whisperer in Darkness, genuinely creepy
>mewgenics final quest>takes 3 specialty runs to finish, kill boss A with item A, kill boss B with item B, kill boss C with item C>final quest item has a "mass damage" ability that hits the whole board>think that i am clever using it with peace sign, which blocks all damage to your team>activate it, it kills my entire team, loses the run>beanies requires you to do the ENTIRE QUEST LINE FROM STEP 1 AGAINok i know i probably shouldve known better but holy shit the communication to the player which interactions work are so bad in this game sometimes and it really intentionally just wastes your time. beanies even had some mocking line about "lol now you have to do the whole quest again"
>>559504508I got too cocky and tried to go for a Max Elites route. Got my shit pushed in in act 2 as Clad and Act 3 as Silent.
