Honestly, the energy options isn't bad for those kind of encounters either. Pistols tend to be mixed bags and are largely sold on the premise of being very silencer friendly (which will likely make them great for picking off UESC without alerting them) while i think stuff like M77 and HAR will make it much more comfortable to have mid-range encounters.

This is honestly one of those games were if you don't like it within the first 30 minutes you're never gong to. I tried, I really fucking tried mam.
