>FAQ:
>Q: How often should I long rest?
>A: Many companion and romance interactions occur when long resting. Some early lower priority camp scenes can also be missed if higher priority ones are queued. To advance companion quests or romances, make sure to long rest often.
>Q: Can I recruit Minthara without going down the evil path?
>A: If you knock her out in Act 1, yes. You do miss out on the sex scene, but otherwise the romance remains the same.
>Q: Underdark or Mountain Pass?
>A: Either, or both. It's recommended to clear both on higher difficulties for the experience and loot. Both connect to the same Act 2 map.
>Q: Is The Dark Urge essentially "Tav+"?
>A: Yes. You get additional content, BUT there are points where, if you've chosen to resist the Urge and/or don't complete quests the "right" way, you'll have to pass additional checks to avoid losing companions.
>Q: Are there any consequences to consuming tadpoles?
>A: No, for the most part. However if you've consumed any tadpoles, there will later be a DC 21 Wisdom check to reject the Astral-Touched Tadpole, which affects your appearance if consumed.
>Q: Should I enable Karmic Dice?
>A: Karmic Dice will avoid streaks of low rolls, both for you and the enemy. It is recommended to disable it if you're specializing.

Thoughts about creating a hireling alchemist for camp potion duty? Is this cheese/cheating or acceptable roleplay?

If it's role play then either "pay" him in gold or RP that he does it for free if you can source the materials as thanks for giving him a place to stay. It's closer to the cheese side of the line than standard play but it's extremely tame compared to say gold duping or save scumming.

I've personally always been against the concept of sacrificing skills for resource generation in games like this. Like I hate the game design of the Antiqurian in Darkest Dungeon. Taking a weaker class just to be able to generate more resources (potions) is a bad game design in my opinion and shouldn't exist. Now having like a permanent camp companion/hireling do it I'm not sure about.
>>
>>559547543
You literally have a character in camp giving you undead minions to use as you please. You’re overthinking it.

>Is this cheese/cheating or acceptable roleplay?
As always, the answer to this question depends on you. What do you consider acceptable? Are you willing to place explosive barrels in strategic locations before initiating a fight? Are you willing to fast travel to avoid the consequences of your actions? Are you willing to teleport an item from a party member's inventory? Just because the game allows it doesn't mean it's not cheesy - therefore unsatisfying. Putting aside your question for a moment, consider whether the game is difficult enough to warrant eking out every possible advantage in that manner. Even on a challenge Honor run, it would probably prove counterproductive.

>>559546710
>>559547852
I find this justification dubious. Sure, hirelings are an established game mechanic. Sure, each one even comes with a semblance of a backstory so one might momentarily forget that they are little more than a flesh puppet controlled by Withers. But hirelings really are backups for the minority of players who absolutely hate the companions for some reason. They are not really part of the narrative, so they shouldn't be part of the gameplay either. Nothing stops a player from respeccing Gale into a transmuter Wizard - or potion-brewing bitch, as I prefer to call them - with a dip into Bard for Expertise in Medicine. But that would no longer be roleplaying.

Paladins get an honorable mention. As satisfying as it is to apply a divine smite to a critical hit, I fucking hate playing on eggshells trying to make sure I don't break my oath because I had a different view of things to Larian

There's a mod that shows you what flags does each dialogue option carry with it, have to admit I do use it when playing Paladin. Some of the oathbreaking options are sometimes just a total bitch move.

>Temple of Umberlee in Act 3.
>If you're Oath of Vengeance, you literally cannot reject the quest, it breaks your oath.

The priestesses don't do any evil stuff in-game unless you count possibly killing Redhammer who's a child trafficer and a lot of other things. Umberlee's temples are not outlawed like Bhaal worship either.

They're still not a good thing to help. Umberlee worship isn't illegal because she's somehow much better than any other evil deity, Umberlee worship isn't illegal because if you make it illegal she's going to completely and utterly destroy any fleets or maritime commerce you have. Nobody actually likes Umberlee except her church, and even the most hardcore sailors only ever interact with it as necessary to do a voyage because the only reasonable thing to do is drop your tribute and then try to not get noticed.

Helping to avenge Holli doesn't have an evil result since the target is a stooge for Gortash and the submarine leaking oil into the sea is bad for the local fishermen as well. Although leaving the Iron Throne alone is probably the most environmental course of action.

Animal Handling should not exist as a skill.
>>
>>559557531
The submarine leaking oil is indeed a bad thing, but also Redhammer, if you poke around in his diary and stuff, never realized until he had built all that shit and transported the hostages that there was something shady going on. Gortash just hired him to build a high security prison and submarine and never actually let him know any of what he was actually doing. By the time you meet him, he was formulating a plan to escape and avoid Gortash, because he started to realize shit was worse than what he had been hired for.

As for the priestess... I mean, they're the ones that attacked him and he just ran one over by accident while getting away. Really the only bad thing he's done is the oil leak, at which point it could be excused with it being an unfinished prototype that he hopefully means to fix.
>>
>>559556969
No, it really isn’t. Performance doesn’t have that many checks in the game, and the ones that are there are fairly low rolls.

Yes, I would remove it from the game. Folk Hero should give you Persuasion instead.

I could see Animal Handling being reworked to buff all your other Charisma checks with animals. So a Persuasion check would add animal handling + persuasion to the roll. As it is right now, it should just be removed.

In a world where medical knowledge is limited and cures often consist of herbal remedies and improvised concoctions, I think it's defensible. Folk healers wouldn't know formal theory, but they would recognize common symptoms and ailments. Medicine could also reasonably be an INT skill - and a human DM could certainly allow INT to be used in some cases - but D&D abstracts it into a WIS skill for consistency. It makes sense, if only because Gale being naturally better at first aid than Shadowheart would be weird.

How different is making a hireling to be a potion bot, from recruiting Halsin (a respected druid and medicinal man) and making him do the same thing? There's nothing that says all companions must exist to be part of combat, or that the primary purpose of the game is to engage in the combat and any character that doesn't do that or exists only to bolster your combat prowess is a cheese strat. How different is it from just pickpocketing merchants after you long rest? It's all a matter of perspective and the only people who care are autists who wouldn't be happy unless you did a no long rest no vendor solo run or some other ultra restricted bullshit. Just do what you want.
>>
>>559558197
I always took wisdom to be understanding how to apply your knowledge, which is where the wizards being dumbasses meme comes from. All the intelligence in the world won't stop them from making the same mistakes over and over again thinking it will be different because "no way I would make a dumbass mistake".
In that context medicine as wisdom makes sense.

Does it bother you that she has like less than two minutes worth of dialogue across all conversation choices? You could probably recite the entire interaction verbatim.

I recommend the all-day coatings mod. I never used weapon coatings because it's tedious to apply them for just 10 turns but use them at the start of each day and even the shitty ones will get you some benefit.
It's a little janky though where leveling up will cause the coating to expire but whatever. You may as well get some value from those poisons and oils.

Did you finish Wyll companion's quest (which ends in the camp after killing Ansur) before rescuing the Grand Duke?

>>559549865
I knew she was familiar from somewhere.

>>559559113
It can be extremely useful and allows you to carry out tacticool missions of your own. I sneaked into Gortash' private quarters before the coronation, read everything there and stole the two unique items without alerting a soul.

You might need Invisibility or even a Greater one at a certain point (there's a guard across a chest, starring right at it with Darkvision) but nobody said they're mutually exclusive. Stealth is often an all-or-nothing but it's powerful.

>>559570954
>>559567432
So it did turn out to be an Oathbreaking action even if the civilians were rescued before?

bg3 looks way too realistic, larian should go back to making very stylized games
>>
I am getting choice paralysis with classes/subclasses before I've even started. Holy shit.
>>
>>559588062
Go with what feels cool
>>
>>559588062
Don't overthink it. Read the descriptions and play whatever you like or can relate to. If you need a tip CHA classes are underrepresented (there's an easily accessible Warlock companion and a Paladin whom you won't recruit during your first run unless the method has been spoiled for you). They're also powerful on their own and make splendid party faces, so playing a Bard, Paladin or Sorcerer is a safe bet.
>>
Could you do something like BG3 in other DnD settings? Greyhawk and Eberron very likely since they're relatively open and expansive but what about Dragonlance?
>>
Lowkey wanna play dos2 more than bg3 rn
>>
>>559593436
Opposite here. I am mid D:OS2 playthrough, level 21, about to visit the Doctor, and I just don't feel like booting the game. Instead I am considering a lone wolf style playthrough of BG3 because I have never tried it. I usually can't help but bring companions along.
On that topic, I know that late game I want to abjuration tank because a solo is the only way to get enemies to actually target you. But what would be a good class for act 1 for maximum survivability. I will be trying to get into combat where possible (especially if there are tangible benefits like the hag hair). Do I just grab the heaviest plate I can find and play a class that complements that?
>>
>>559595973
Barbs are hard to kill especially in act 1

Gonna go for a War Cleric with a two-hander. Any tips?
>>
>>559596674
Get on your enemies face and keep spirit guardians up when you get it. You don't have proper extra attack so if you want to get the most out of the one you do, get booming blade from multiclassing, feat or being a (half) high elf.
>>
>>559596674
Most Clerics can get away not hitting shit. War Domain isn't one of them. Big part of your specialty is smashing foes so you'll actually need STR on top of the WIS (your caster stat, important because of the Spell DC) and front-liners need CON even with Heavy Armour. Also your options to raise STR (even in "Until Next Long Rest" format) will be much more plentiful than WIS. Just something to keep in mind during char creation.
>>
>>559597492
With war cleric I'd leave dex at 10 even. There's an elixir for high initiative too.
>>
I haven't seen swen the same way ever since you guys told me that he wants to fuck dragonborns & lizards

1. If we're strictly talking about early-game durability, Eldritch Knight, Hexblade, and Paladin are strong candidates - the first two because of Shield, the third because of Shield of Faith. There is still the issue of critical hits, especially if you insist on being a frontliner, but these are negated once you wear adamantine armor. An example level 4 Eldritch Knight with Defense Fighting Style, Chain Mail +1, Ring of Protection, and a shield would already have 21 AC, increased to 26 with Shield. A Paladin would have 23 AC when Shield of Faith is up, with the caveat that it is a Concentration spell. The majority of early-game damage comes from attacks, so the Heavy Armor Master feat is worth considering, though it might not fit every character concept.

2. However, durability is not the only aspect to consider. You need to deal damage as well. The Apostle of Myrkul is a notorious hard filter for solo challenges, because it's not really a fight you can win through attrition. You need to end that fight fast, before the Apostle gets a chance to heal. There are earlier examples, but this is the one boss fight you need to plan for in a solo run. I can't solve this problem for you. I don't have the experience. I'm sure there are plenty of guides out there that spoonfeed you a possible answer, but it's more satisfying to come up with your own.
>>
Going to start a new run but want to try out some mod classes. For anons who use them what are the best ones?

Yep. The scene where he decides between becoming Grand Duke himself or becoming the Blade of Avernus (to which I picked the second).

>>559584006
>So it did turn out to be an Oathbreaking action even if the civilians were rescued before?
No, it didn't break my oath. Again, I'm guessing you just get that option if you didn't free the gondians, since then you're kinda killing them all.

>>559588062
It's taken me literal years to even get to the end of the game as I am approaching now because of choice paralysis. And even then I keep respeccing. I've gone back to Eldritch Knight now, my brief dalliance with Paladin is over.

The irony is that now subsequent playthroughs will probably be much easier to go through because my first and only first time experience is already done.

You get a Warlock companion at level 2 or 3 who comes with his own patron and quest. You'll have plenty of time to experience what the class has to offer.

Even a bottle of Grease or some Ice can cause Prone. There's plenty of good reasons to play a Monk but that one Prone Flurry is such a small part of it.

It just thicks all the boxes. Versatile, powerful, party face, the ultimate support class. If I were you I'd go with this one especially if you're a first-time player.

Thanks for the reply, I was dealing with a similar dilemma in the previous thread (>>559428605) and your post helped me confirm I made the right decision. Seeing confirmation that he asks for player input even if the Grand Duke is not there was also very useful. Overall I strongly suspect that Wyll's big decisions regarding his pact was originally supposed to determine his father's fate as well. In other words his eternal service saves his father's life or regaining his freedom takes it. Larian probably chickened out and added this "late rescue" opportunity, and while the game is equipped to handle it in a technically bug-free way doing Ansur before the Iron Throne is clearly not the intended order. This must be behind the kind of oddities that you experienced yourself at >>559542042.

You can't rely on Bone Chill because, as I've said, the Apostle of Myrkul is essentially a DPR check for solo challenges, and that would be wasting your action economy. Doom Hammer essentially has a 100% chance to apply Bone Chilled (see https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Doom_Hammer#Notes) and would be much more efficient, though that obviously limits you to being a martial. A Hasted Paladin would probably do fine here, especially if you have Aylin to help, but I'm unsure about other options.
>>
>>559612594
Yeah, seems to me like the "intended" order was see the coronation > Wyll gets offered the deal > Wyll takes the deal > free Ravengard > go for Ansur.
I'm feeling Florrick got added to the equation as a way to reach Ansur first. Also Ravengard gets over Ansur being dead hilariously fast.
>Wyll, now that I've finally regained my trust in you, I have to tell you. There is a secret that has been passed down through generations of Baldur's Gate grand dukes, and it is of the utmost importance. It is our secret weapon for times of direst need. Beneath Wyrm's Crossing lies the great dragon Ansur, waiting for the day he will be needed. Go, and awaken him.

>I'm feeling Florrick got added to the equation as a way to reach Ansur first.
Florrick and her street confrontation scene was clearly the backup plan for players who set Wyll free and "killed" his dad. Otherwise they'd have never known Wyrmway exists, meanwhile here both the peaceful and the violent solution leads to the player acquiring the book. The issue is that Florrick's prison break is time sensitive and the street scene can be triggered just by walking in the city. With the Grand Duke it's the opposite: the location is secret and you're incentivized to postpone the action (as it pisses Gortash off). This two factor creates a situation where everything is upside down compared to how it suppose to be on paper.

The D:OS2 intimacy scene was cringe and in my lone wolf run I'm going to be skipping it. I'm glad Larian improved on the concept in BG3. It's still not perfect imo (not a single sex scene in BG3 is good) but it's so much better than text based ERPing.

Either WotC badly wanted to see characters from previous BG games in BG3 and Larian couldn't do them justice (because Act 3) or Larian had the brilliant idea of wanting to add those characters but ran out of time to do them justice (because Act 3).

Either way, i am pissed that Larian doesn't want do to an enhanced edition to polish up Act 3 and is left in this rather odd state.

Why didn't Larian just outsource the sex scenes to SDSMS/Drills3D? He would have done better animated sex scenes

Sex, absolutely BG3 is an improvement. Romance, debatable. There's not much of a romance in D:OS2 and BG3 does a better job of making it feel like your companion is actually romantically attracted to you. But you could argue BG3 is more ham-fisted compared to D:OS2. I think it's a preference thing in that department.

How is this relevant though? Nothing suggests you can't have a god and an oath or that the oath could be dedicated to a god. You're claiming that wotc doesn't like having paladins tied to gods when there are multiple characters in the game that are paladins devoted to gods and larian literally made player dialogue for them. Aylin is literally a paladin of selune.

Do you really think wotc forced Larian to remove the optional deity selection for Paladins in bg3? This sounds unlikely.

I use Steam's notepad to create logs for my character. I write down their main characteristics and values and a very simple backstory so I can keep my character straight. If you're up for it, you could write a simple log every time you play. I once played through Dragon Age making in-character diary entries after each quest. It was my character writing down what he went through during that session every time we made camp. It's a fun and super immersive way of playing although it takes a lot of effort to keep it up

It only took two posts after Shar was mentioned (>>559624974) for the parasite and its enablers to start derailing the thread AGAIN. It is allergic to discussion about the game. Off-topic discussion about Larian's Other Game or Larian's Next Game is more than fine, however. This is where a permissive attitude leads us. Hypocrisy.

>>559632801
>Also why isn't optional Deity selection available to all characters?
Concerns about class identity aside, that could allow pairings that are confusing, if not outright nonsensical. Consider the contradictory concepts of a Barbarian of Oghma or an Assassin of Ilmater. Enforcing such restrictions falls under the necessary limitations of a video game. Fortunately, a Cleric dip is efficient. The player doesn't even need to sacrifice much if they burn a level to be a cleric of Selûne romancing Shadowheart.

1 month can be significant in this sense. Probably the only reason I had no issues after my month-long sabbatical during the holidays is that I'm in Act 3 already. Such breaks can easily kill your run in the novelty phase where you have no well-established knowledge or memories to return to. Either way the Notepad method works as a general to-do list as well. Just writing down one-liners about basically anything game-related can be very useful, but in your case planning ahead part can be especially fruitful. If you just record your plans (which locations to visit / what companions to bring / which quests to advance etc.) at the end of each session that could serve as a solid foundation for your next one. Looking up builds for your MC and each companions (preferably with item slot recommendations for separate acts) can also be a great help in your situation.

Not him but going unarmored doesn't worth it for Barbs imho. It takes me 3 clicks to raise my throwing Karlach's AC to 25 and she's rocking pic rel as chest piece. Unarmored Defence comes with too many restrictions to be able to close the gap.

you can always run the numbers if you want more than just feeling. an extra, say, four AC is a 25% hit chance difference, would you rather be hit for 4 damage 5 times or for 8 damage 4 times.

>>559686684
Nope, as Heavy Armor impedes Rage. Medium is the highest you can go. The truth is that stacking AC is useful but certain low-level defensive spells (mostly Shield and Mirror Image) do much more to your survival. Same goes for concealment (Blur / Displaced) as well. E.g. this is why Elder Knights can be as resilient as a cockroach. Most solo builds are centered around Invisibly in some way or form as that bypasses the Achilles heel of such runs: that you're the only one enemies can target and they almost always outnumber you.

>I feel like a better strategy than mitigating damage is to not get hit.
This is correct. This is much easier on a ranged build, but there are players out there who have done it on a melee build, so it must be possible, although it leaves much less room for error. When avoidance is the name of the game, reducing variance as much as possible is logical. It is technically possible to stack AC so high that only critical hits go through - and these are entirely negated by adamantine. An Abjuration build follows the same principle - negation rather than mitigation.

>>559688197
>The truth is that stacking AC is useful but certain low-level defensive spells (mostly Shield and Mirror Image) do much more to your survival.
This is a contradiction. Shield and Mirror Image would still be about stacking AC. At 27 AC, you become untouchable to most enemies in Act 1. A Light Cleric dip can even add Shield of Faith and impose Disadvantage on one attack each turn. Trying to outlast damage with Rage is already approaching the problem from the wrong angle, because you implicitly accept being hit - a poor plan when you have three fewer bodies to soak damage. I disagree with Barbarian being suitable here, with the exception of a ranged Berserker. Of course, AC is just one layer of a well-rounded build. AC doesn't protect you from area damage, guaranteed spell damage, save-or-suck spells like Hold Person, or simply being shoved to your death. But it gets a lot of mileage in Act 1 - the most dangerous act relative to character level - and is as easy to stack as having a spell slot available for Shield.

I know you're always just baiting with muh off topic posts but this time you're just being plain retarded. How the fuck is comparing another CRPG's inventory system to BG3's even slightly off topic? The topic is about how BG3's inventory could be improved/changed and bringing up an example that Larian could emulate.
>>
>>559702681
bg3 and wotr have nearly identical inventory systems.

if you had to finger some differences, it would be minor ones. bg3 collects food and ingredients in bags. wotr has more equipment slots. but they're the same system.

how on earth are you saying one is amazing and the other is the worst?
>>
>>559703338
Are you stupid? Owlcat has a unified inventory while BG3 gives each companion a separate inventory. Owlcat automatically sorts out trash while BG3 clutters your inventory with it. You always have access to your inventory in Owlcat games while you can accidentally leave stuff in companion's bags in BG3 so you have to go back to camp.
>>
>>559703257
>The topic is about how BG3's inventory could be improved/changed
No, that was never the topic, except perhaps in your mind. A post that claims that the difficulty in BG3 is piss easy and asks for mods to remedy that is not an invitation to talk about how X did difficulty better. A post that claims the inventory system is shitty and asks for mods to remedy that (>>559700952) is not an invitation to talk about how Y managed inventory better. Either answer the question directly or ignore it, but spare us the derailment routine.

The game is what it is. Shitty, great, mediocre, whatever you think it is. "All they had to do was copy X" is not a conversation starter. It's a thought-terminating bait that can only invite more thought-terminating nonsense in the form of "Yeah, you're right," and "No, you're stupid and wrong." All they had to do was make a better game, devoid of flaws. Why didn't they think of that?
>>
>>559703653
sounds like you agree with what i said, so why the contrarian attitude? you can see from your own post that they are nearly identical systems with some minor differences.
as you helpfully lined out, although it is functionally identical, it does take different numbers of clicks to do the same thing in one system vs the other. this is exactly my point, it's the same system, with minor differences such as needing to drag over a potion before you drink it

if you want to see a different inventory system, you can look at for example xcom.

owlcat always has been just discount knockoff larian

I used to think Blaze (that's her first name) was cringe because she takes a bribe to let a group of heavily armed assassins stroll into Wyrm's Rock, and is thus responsible for the assassination of the Archduke for simple greed.

But I thought about it more, and in her defense, she only gets you in he door of the fortress. She honestly probably thought that if you actually were troublemakers, you'd be stopped by the dozen Steel Watchers right inside the door. She had no way of knowing that Gortash would ALSO tell them to let you in the ceremony. So you bypassed two layers of security, but she honestly had no reason to believe you would be able to bypass the second one. She probably thought she would collect your gold, and then you'd get turned away by the steel watchers with no repercussions to her or to Gortash. Which is a reasonable assumption on her part. It's still bad to risk it at all by taking bribes to not do your job, but I see her point of view.

I mean yeah, it's not a coincidence. Larian anticipated Astarion and Shadowheart were going to be the most popular male and female romances, so they figured tacking on a random poly romance in Act 3 wasn't gonna hurt them as much.

They were never gonna put a poly romance on a POC character like Wyll. He barely has any fans as it is

Lae'zel is a slow burner, funnily enough since we're talking about Karlach too
she will ask for casual sex like a random space horny frog but then she will go full tsundere, asking for you to beat her up and then to hold hands
Karlach is more direct in the sense she really has touch starvation and wants to go all in with you but you , quite literally, need to "fix her" before doing really anything
and now that I'm reading this out loud both of these romance kinda sound a little fucked up

The operation in the Firework shop was a major explosive producer for all kinds of purposes. Every major location Gortash was involved with (Foundry, Wyrm's Rock, IT) contained some of his unique designs and this shop delivered everywhere.

>What's he winning from that?
If Arfur dies and you talk to him he reveals it was a Banite plot to justify the Steel Watcher's presence. My impression was that Gortash had little to do with this. Arfur is a known toymaker and probably some mid-level follower had a "dude, what if...!" moment.

The basic answer is anyone who wants a lolrandum experience. You can metagame it though and space people out enough to benefit more often than face serious drawbacks.
Considering honor mode is a knowledge check, it can be nice to throw a wrench into the works though and let yourself be put in bad situations.

It really isn't. Not that 3 Thief or 2 Fighter are not dips that are taken often for some builds, but they're not taken nearly as often as the dips in WotR. Nor does the game get borderline impossible in the higher difficulties because you didn't follow the supermeta dips pajama + pets build, in WotR you can't have someone like Seelah even conceive of tanking anything past Core, she's straight up made of butter no matter if you slap heavy armor and a shield on her.

Core is the main difficulty, similar to tactician if not honour (minus ironman mode) in BG3. You absolutely do not even need to think about multiclassing for that difficulty. Just because Pathfinder naturally invites more build autism, doesn't mean you have to actually do that. Your only contention seems to be that Pathfinder players are more autistic and therefore min max their builds more because Pathfinder allows it, as opposed to BG3.
>taken nearly as often as the dips
What do you even base this off? All builds I've seen on youtube all include dipping for builds that support it.
>anything past Core
You're literally talking about a difficulty named UNFAIR that only exists to placate turbo autists and use that as an argument that Pathfinder forces dipping?

In fairness, the game was completely broken at launch, especially companion flags and triggers, so people who shouldn't have been seeing most of that were still having it forced on them due to bugs. To my understanding Larian eventually fixed it, but still, lol.

I've never seen the scene either, just from images and webms posted here. my point was that once you discover this, whether through doing it yourself or seeing it posted online, the vast majority of people are going to be completely put off by it. Just doesn't make sense to me.

my favorite part was that it was all gale's fault. so if you played dark urge and killed him at the start it wouldn't happen in your game unless you cheated on her or went to the brothel together.
>>
>>559742221
those scenes show up when you indicate you're into that kind of thing, so nobody seeing it will be put off.

there will be a few guys, like you, who read it out of context and misunderstand, but close to 0% of players do that so it's fine.
>>
>>559740082
My guess is just it's a "progressive" thing to include in the game. Like they asked themselves what kind of wacky relationship dynamic they could include, and someone raised their hand and said "kids these days like polyamory". Which isn't exactly true, but you might get that impression from the portion of them that do and post it on social media.

The less generous assumption comes from the fact that Halsin is the target of her attention, and Halsin is the other party member written by the same author, John. He got his two dollies that he controlled to want to kiss each other. Almost every other companion doesn't want to participate in the orgy, and even the ones who do, do not have a line about how they've actually been daydreaming for an extended period of time about having sex with Halsin. So the only two characters to like it, happened to be the two characters written by the same author? The coincidence is a bit much. So I think it could easily be a case of the author's barely disguised fetish. Recall that Shart explicitly says she's "not the third wheel type" in act two when she starts opening to you about her feelings. Then suddenly she's actually been daydreaming about sex with Halsin. The character directly contradicts herself. Why? Because John wanted to write a traditional romantic romance, but then later in development slipped his fetish in. Idk, can't say for sure, but the sequencing fits.

In any case, the average normie has not gotten to that part of the game, so we'll never really know what they think. Literally, by the way, only half of players have left act 1 and only about a third have finished the game, and this scene is tucked away in act 3. So we literally have not gotten enough normies to see it to even give an opinion. I've be interested to see what the average normie thinks of it.
>>

>The dip is just as big of a problem in BG3
That was my initial argument which is objectively true. They're just as meta and beneficial. You don't have to multiclass in either but both games allow you to do it for great benefit.
>Everyone in BG3 dips just as much as in WotR
I never said this. BG3 is a more casual game with more casual players, obviously they're going to dip less. Nobody is arguing that Pathfinder doesn't have more nerdy nerds.

In what ways are Fighter 2 and Rogue 3 less of a problem in BG3? That fewer people do it because the game is easier and the fans are normies? Is that what makes it less of a problem? Both games - on normal difficulties - are just as as easy without ever multiclassing.
>>
>>559742734
whether you see those scenes or not is irrelevant. People were put off just knowing that that's a canonical part of her character, whether you see any of it in your game or not. The love interest they thought was purely dedicated, and truly in love with them, is actually a complete and utter whore, daydreaming about getting gangbanged while in a relationship with them.
>>

>realistic woman moment
>>
>>559742945
>Recall that Shart explicitly says she's "not the third wheel type" in act two when she starts opening to you about her feelings.

yeah that's one of the wildest parts of it, like if it was established she was polyamorous from the start, no one would care. people could just say "yeah that's not for me" and go for another companion, but they literally just wrote a monogamous character, and slapped on polyamory in the last act of the game? and didn't retroactively work that into her character at all so it's a total surprise?

i don't get why this is so difficult for you to understand.
the developers added different content for different kinds of people.

if you like dogs she's a dog person, if you like cats she's a cat person. if you desire to be cucked, she cucks you. there is no such thing as a canonical character, it is a set of dialogue and the character is an abstraction you have contrived.

>In what ways are Fighter 2 and Rogue 3 less of a problem in BG3?
Many classes in BG3 get a relevant feature at level 11 - Wizards and Clerics unlock 6th-level spells, Fighters get Improved Extra Attack, Hunters get Volley and Whirlwind Attack - making a 3-level or even 2-level dip inefficient. Moreover, optimizing in BG3 beyond one-turning bosses is an exercise in futility, so throwing in an Action Surge for the sake of it is neither justified nor as prevalent as you seem to think it is. Not only are you a tourist shitting up the thread with a worthless claim that 3.5E/PF has more build autism than 5E, but you don't even understand how BG3 is optimized despite a considerably lower level cap. Instead of relying on "builds you've seen on youtube" to base your opinion, maybe you ought to realize that builds in BG3 are often more about itemization than whatever dips you repeat like a monkey because a content creator on youtube told you it was "meta." A pure Eldritch Knight archer abusing Arcane Acuity is certainly a "build," though one that doesn't rely on Thief 3, and for which a 1-level dip would be mostly for flavor.
>>
>>559755236
nta, but you're wrong. bg3's highest difficulty is way way easier than wotr's.
>Moreover, optimizing in BG3 beyond one-turning bosses is an exercise in futility
i mean, yeah? you're proving his point. bg3 isn't that hard even on honor mode

neither game forces meta builds on you on regular difficulties. the highest damage builds in bg3 also involve some multiclassing. if it had an "unfair" mode, it'd probably require them or you'd get stomped

I'm objectively correct that the tourist's claim that "[dipping] is just as big of a problem in BG3" is uninformed and incorrect. A min-maxer is never going to forgo a Fighter's third attack, because no dip is better than attacking three times instead of two. You don't improve your Sorcerer by forcing two levels of Fighter so they can Action Surge. This was never about which game is more difficult or requires more optimization, but you can't read. I also acknowledged in that very post that BG3 is an easy game that doesn't require excessive optimization, but you can't read. ("Moreover, optimizing in BG3 beyond one-turning bosses is an exercise in futility.") You don't earn extra speedrunner points for beating a boss in half a turn instead of a full turn. It's still a one-turn victory in the end. A claim that another comparable CRPG is more difficult than BG3 is defensible (and likely). A claim that dipping is prevalent in BG3 and that everyone slaps a Fighter 2 or Thief 3 dip to "improve" a build is nonsensical. But what can you expect from an individual that would rather search for builds on youtube than think?

>Tourist statement: "The dip is just as big of a problem in BG3 as Pathfinder, with 3 Rogue for Thief and 2 Fighter for action surge."
>Counterargument: Many classes in BG3 get a relevant feature at level 11 - Wizards and Clerics unlock 6th-level spells, Fighters get Improved Extra Attack, Hunters get Volley and Whirlwind Attack - making a 3-level or even 2-level dip inefficient.
Will the tourist address this logically? Or resort to passive-aggressive name-calling because it is embarrassed that it said something blatantly incorrect?

>>559758853
Consider a Sorcerer with a 2-level Fighter dip. It's far from optimal, but arguably much more human.

Light Crossbows are better than cantrips until level 5 (except for Warlocks, Eldrich Blast is better at level 2)

>6th level spells
You only need one dip in wizard while being a full caster to get level 6 spells at level 11. Granted, they will be ass as they scale off INT, but there are ways around that and it still means you're not really encouraged to actually get level 11 in one class.
I think the only class that actually cares about level 11 unconditionally is Fighter? Due to the third attack unlock.
>>
>>559759696
how the hell do you function in combat with 1 in every class?

Do you blame Four Elements monk shittiness on Larian or WOTC? Because the former was able to let Open Hand monk be cracked through gear and multiclassing, but the latter created the shitty framework that had to be followed.

And don't tell me it's not shit, it's the subclass with the most rework mods.
>>
>>559762057
All they had to do was low the ki costs, call it homebrew, and Four Elements would have been serviceable.
>>
>>559761986
I bet it's Eldritch Blast spam with Hex. Everything else seems too low level to work.
>>
>>559761986
>>559762378
That'd probably be the easiest way to do it, but I chose to play as a dedicated caster the whole time. Scrolls became my lifeblood.
>>
>>559762057
I blame it on Larian. They buffed other objectively shit subclasses like Beastmaster. All they had to do was lower the ki costs and maybe throw in a free elemental cantrip. You can't sit there and tell me that casting the equivalent to shocking grasp and having it use your "casting" resource was a good idea. Especially when other magic users can do it for free and sorcerer in particular can do it for free and do it stronger.

Same thing with Drunken Master too. The subclass's own abilities work against it.

I also talked about this (left is Minsc against us, right is with us) but as an Anon pointed out every companion reverts back to their classes' default Ability scores upon joining. That's all there is to it.

If knew this when I first started playing I'd have restored everybody's default abilities right after their recruitment. There's always a next time. If you're interested Halsin's starting numbers were 16/11/14/10/17/13.

>You don't improve your Sorcerer by forcing two levels of Fighter so they can Action Surge.
different multiclasses are optimal in different situations. i don't think you really read or understood that's guy's entire argument. multiclass builds are still meta in bg3, but the difficulty just isn't high enough to require them

Used to it was hard to justify a Warlock dip for Pact of the Blade, but Hexblade gets Bind Weapon and HB Curse at Level 1 which really opened it up for CHA class dips.

Sex. I'm talking about sex. Intercourse. Fade to black with implied coitus. It's always about sex with you "people." Missionary sex with Astarion. On his grave. Altar sex with Minthara. Your obedience will make this more enjoyable for the both of you. Moonlit sex with Shadowheart. Selûne is watching, but you don't care. Sparring sex to establish dominance with Lae'zel. Submissive sex, too. Lower. Taste. Hot and passionate sex with Karlach. Until you see nothing but stars. Sex. Why can't you have sex with Jaheira? That's not fair. I'm sure she's still a cougar, if you know what I mean. And by that, I mean sex. Kagha should have been a companion. So you could have sex with her. The viper must strike... get it? The joke is sex. The punchline is sex. Mizora should have been your patron. So she could reward you with sex. Good pup. Sex. Remember to frequently long rest - not so you can rest your mind and body, but so you can have more sex, of course. Sex with Bex the sex. Awkward sex with Alfira. Sad sex with Inwe. Sex with the harpies, too. Sex, sex, sex! Pity sex with Florrick. She owes you as much for saving her. Do you think Vlaakith is a virgin? Sex with Baretha, Yy'rul, Therezzyn, Isobel, Aylin, Araj, Sloncha, Patty, Dalyria, Elin, and all these characters who exist only for sexual temptation. Forbidden sex with the Mother Superior. I wonder if Shar ever had sex. Lesbian sex. Incestuous sex. Twin sister sex. Shapeshifting sex with Orin - even if she murders you after. Worth it. Sex. Has it been about 2 minutes since you last thought of sex? Are there any mods that enhance sex scenes? Can't wait to turn on photo mode, or sex mode as I like to call it... you know what that means. Sex. Lots of it. Swearing an Oath of Devotion to sex. First tenet: Never miss an opportunity for sex. Oh, but if the writers even suggest that a companion might be interested in sex... then they're sex-obsessed. What can change the nature of a person? The answer must be sex.

I think I'm going to do a playthrough where I only use generic weapons & armor and I'm going to RP as a normal dude. Only make decisions I think a normal person would make, only go where a normal person would go, only do what seems rational. No letting hags fuck me in the eye, no killing scores of tiefs for drow pussy, etc. Just a dude with a sharp blade and a shield trying to get the tadpole out.
Maybe even no magic, or at least no magic that doesn't come from a race (githyanki's misty step).
