Finished Manakashi. It was as brutal as I was expecting. It does not hold back at all. The thing that disturbed me most, weirdly, was (route ending spoiler) the "M dyke submits fully to torture" path, specifically at the end after M-Manami willingly has all her limbs severed. There's a scene of her being fed by S-Manami, which was incredibly cute. Even though she's wiggling her little arm stumps, complete with amateur suturing, I could only find it cute. That's gonna stick with me.

Just like Urobuchi-san said, it’s difficult to call the relationship between Shirou and Saber a relationship between a man and a woman. Saber has fought for a long time as the ruler of Britain, but then turned into a girl all of a sudden and fell in love with Shirou. It’s pretty ridiculous when you think about it. But I really wanted to push it towards that sort of boy-meets-girl story. So as a last resort, I had Shirou continually say things to her like “But you’re a girl,” and “Girls aren’t supposed to fight,” in order to remind the users that “she is really a girl.” It’s like the author’s actually the one trying to convince Saber that she’s a girl… I feel like I could have written it a lot better now, but that was the best I could do at the time.

Steins;Gate is complete dogshit and I genuinely don’t understand how this VN still gets glazed like it’s some untouchable sacred relic. The first 10-15 hours are pure nothingburger: endless yap sessions, unfunny “lol random” chuuni babble, and slice of life padding so thick you could use it as insulation. Okabe isn’t “quirky,” he’s just exhausting, and the cast feels like a checklist of mid-2000s otaku tropes duct-taped together and left to rot. Every scene drags, every joke misses, and you’re sitting there wondering if the “peak fiction” part accidentally got deleted from your install. And when the time travel shit finally kicks in, it’s not even clever...it’s baby’s first sci-fi wrapped in fake intellectualism. Endless exposition dumps, contrived suffering and the same emotional beats hammered into your skull until you either cry or Stockholm yourself into thinking it’s deep. The routes are uneven as hell, the pacing is catastrophic and the VN constantly jerks itself off over how “smart” it thinks it is. If this is your gold standard for visual novels, I’m begging you to read literally anything else. Absolute mid masquerading as kino.
