For reference endgame items in 3.0 had an item level of about 270. 4.0's "entry pve" ilvl was 330, a bit higher but somewhat on par with where Stormblood's numbers were which is also their 4.0.

That was a huge reason why levels after BFA went from 120 cap to (we are now 50, cap will be 60 in SL) because levels quit feeling special after 100. This is likely a human psychology thing but game design is literally built around psychology and catering to it.I am very much convinced Square will find some measure to either squish the leveling along with item levels if not this upcoming expansion than the next one, or have some "Paragon Levels" type system where you level up and get the dopamine but not literally leveling up. That's the ultimate in "cheap and easy fixes" and Square are the kings of that. They fucking removed a fish from the game, then forgot to remove the way to get it so we had server crashes because of a fucking MissingNo replication just instead of your save file getting fucked it was server crash to not have that can of worms opened as a failsafe.I didn't wanna get too far into the technicals with Claire because I know it's above their mental paygrade but the main reason we even got squishes in WoW was because in MoP (2012-2014) the game was still 32 bit. Meaning the game couldn't process beyond 2.1 billion, that integer. The final raid boss of that expansion had his health reset like four fucking times to have the HP they wanted him to have, but the game couldn't allow him to have.Square also in the past had to fuck with tank threat because it was so high that given long enough it'd negative overflow in Shadowbringers (hence the squish). So they REALLY need to keep their numbers in check as they climb which makes squishing even more likely.
