it sounds like overoptimization to me, ai doesnt need to perform everything completely optimally (and that would infact be a negative because then theres nothing for professional players to do to eke out an advantage). for your example where two workers want to grab the last 10 wood, they could both path there and then take different action when they arrive depending on if theres enough wood or not

Low poly raptor, still needs his fingers and feet/toes. Trying to keep it under 1k tris, after the last bits of the body are modeled I'll make a copy and try connecting the legs/arms instead of being separate to see what works better.
I like segmented because it's easier to animate and I only like to make bad copies of things I thought were cool before 9/11.

reading about the game's description I don't really see why it would flop. It has a build-in editor with workshop support so theoretically it should have infinite content. From sneaking, shooting your way out, going with underground tunnels, breaking walls, building rafts and escaping via helicopters I think it should offer enough variety for a typical slop consumer. I think that Lethal Company offers much less.
I really don't follow why some shitty games go big while others, while also being better, fail. Was it really just the price? Would Cuffbust be king of the hill if it launched for $5?

The coop mode is interesting, at least the social aspects. But it seems like it mostly quickly devolves into whether the players get engines online or not, which the game guides them towards, as well as whether players happen to get countered or not, no thinking typically needed.
The game probably also "randomly" gives players cards and items they need if they fucked up their builds, misteaching players and giving them false information and bad feedback and bad teaching rewards.

something I have to remind artists of quite often is that cross-part shading is best added as a layer underneath a part
so let's say the bottom of this tail is blocking the light hitting the character's thigh, instead of painting a different version of the thigh (I'm not adding two entirely different copies of the character into the textures) you do the shading as part of the layer to clip over the light.
There's also some faint black shadows here as ambient occlusion.
This can cause some problems with animations or shaders though.

I hate it when it has to clip above some things (butt) but then hide behind other things (legs) but if the parts don't have animations that move them you can just crop out the part behind the leg, I guess.
Too many people just export entire characters and force the client to load several oversized textures into memory when you can just have pieces like this, and I don't blame them, if you're an artist without dev experience.

I'm still optimizing it. Also the cases have to be compared 1:1. Sure, rasterizing minecraft sized cubes is going to be more naively performant than the naive raymarching case. But what about rasterizing millions of tiny voxels? What about the memory cost there for the triangles?

In my scene I am raymarching 16, 777,216 voxels.

The raymarching is very sensitive to mistakes. But it can be performant with optimizations.

I'm still optimizing it though. I think it'll be good, people like Douglas seem to have got raymarched voxels running on integrated GPUs.

So the performance can be great, and you can render many more voxels than rasterization due to memory savings. It just needs more optimization than a naive rasterization case.

Most devs understand that posting small incremental progress to a long-term dream project is the way you end up like Bokudev, Marmoreal, or Cris, and that by project hopping, prototyping, and then quietly making your game behind closed doors is how you end up like IvySly or Wabbaboy. I use the thread to occasionally validate an idea, but once I'm past design and prototyping, I really don't think there's any point in posting my game here, besides to entertain nodevs.

The game already focus on meta-progression. Like Rogue Legacy, where you get stronger by default, but I dont have many different "skills" to make it a skill-tree based game.
