What decisions take you out of a fanfic immediately? For me, it’s portraying Sunny’s mom as a bad parent and neglecting Sunny. Especially if they say that’s why he’s malnourished.
>>560119462I agree, and I also feel like that's a consequence of stories that feel like they need a villain/bad guy of sorts. Some kind of antagonistic force to push the story forward. It works in Headspace, but is strange in Faraway/the real world. I don't even really agree with having Omori be a villain when he's more of an antagonist by nature.I feel like having Sunny's Mom be depicted as awful is to some extent a means to an end. Getting Sunny away from the only person who could take him away from Faraway so he doesn't have to move and can stay with his friends. And for what it's worth, I feel like this perspective on Sunny's Mom faded quite a bit over time.
