When the roguelike mode is just a nasty chore but is 90% of the gameplay, it does not feel good.

I liked the tower. Nine ended up trivializing it once she was released, but longer stages work better than the quickies in Basin, where I feel like I'm just reapplying the same upgrades over and over. Looking forward to the real thing.I do feel like they're working on too many "big" updates at once right now though, between the tower, the rewrite, and whatever the arena and new roguelike mode are. I suspect that's why this season's been so dead between updates. I swear I remember season 1 being better about adding normal combat stages and stuff like that between the new banners.
