It's not enough that this game got fairly criticized. It's not enough that it got shat on endlessly on top of that. It's not enough that SEGA listened and pandered to its haters for 15 years both online and in game content. No, they still need to take it further: you are not allowed to like it. You are not allowed to like anything from it. You are not allowed to say anything positive about it, or wish that it would get an improved rerelease, or that some of its ideas are brought back, or even just being glad that SEGA references it neutrally like they reference any other game. Say anything less than negative and you're hit with a bunch of false accusations on how you are somehow responsible for things that have nothing to do with you and that you probably criticize yourself in the first place. They are never satisfied. They don't like it, so they don't want you to enjoy any of it either. They need you to be just as miserable. It became so ingrained in the Sonic community that I don't think people even realize when they do this, so I don't want to be aggressive, but it's so tiring. I'm glad this stupid mind virus is slowly going away, but when I see the posts from the Japanese official accounts the replies are simply adequate, respectful of the opinions of others, and understanding of the situation. It's a whole different world compared to the flamewars that are always started on similar English posts.

The 2010s games focusing on 90s nostalgia and never taking anything seriously or having any tension was the general fashion at the time too. And I've come to realized you don't get a solid grasp on what those things are until a few years later. Whatever the current trends are, I'm not particularly conscious of them because they just feel normal. I also don't have as solid of an understanding of the 90s since I wasn't around to experience it firsthand. It's interesting to think about, I'm sure I'll have a different perspective in a few years
