Noelle showed up in Undertale so it still feels like Deltarune is a post Chara consequence where Rudy and everyone else is not killed by an illness, but by a murderer, and Kris learned this truth somehow and knows exactly the kind of evil potential a player SOUL has. The Knight is born from kid Noelle's terror. In a Genocide run, by the time you reach that kid Noelle area, they should have disappeared and assumed hiding like QC. They would have had magic. Ice magic, in particular. And what would a high society family who are friends with the royal family do in such a apocalyptic event? They would bunker up and preserve themselves. Freezing things preserves them. And now Noelle is in a different world, Carol is afraid of a very real threat that could happen, and they are not as unaware of magic as they seem. Maybe it's all a snowglobe and something cracked this protective bunker snowglobe, the shattered glass being the shadow crystals. This had gone past theory and into AU territory but if Knight is some sort of sentinel or guardian, it does such a good job being anti Player that Kris cough signals in a no hit fight as if to say, quit it for now, they have redone and mastered fighting you, do not let them get so good they end things now.
