It's most likely that Toby didn't even consider this angle at all, but Chara's use of the word "demon" has an ambiguity to it that fascinates me—Chara lived among monsters long enough that they likely knew or heard of demons as a species of monster rather than the kinds found in human mythology, and being well-established as liking books probably would have at least read a little about their history, but on the other hand monsters are not immune to using the terms to describe themselves, including "monster" itself, in its derogatory sense. When Chara invokes themselves as The Demon That Comes When People Calls Its Name, are they using it in the human sense, and therefore embracing the heritage that has driven them to suicide in the first place, or does their placement as the compulsive climb in stature have some parallel in monster history?While one could surmise the Demon as a simple malevolent being of power from Chara's dialogue, the letter elaborates it as not only a paranoia for oneself, but a need to control life in and of itself—>You become invincible. >Nothing can hurt you anymore.>Nothing can hurt anyone anymore.Chara was, if not happy to say the least, content in the finality of their world-shattering attack such that no more harm could be done, that all the evil of the world, human or monster would be contained in this final attack; it is why the act of repeating this final act confuses and enrages them so. Chara became the demon so that they could surpass their human limits, mortality itself, to BECOME the not ruler but RULE of the universe itself, in a sense more abstract than law—It is very plausible that a hero could have become The Demon, that there could even be several demons, and as someone with a comorbid mild Batman autism this idea of the demon as a role is something I'd really like to see explored.

I just thought of something, and I wonder if anyone else has some theories about this.Given Kris's machiavellian scheming between chapters 1 and 2, What if he did something more to tip the story in his favor before that?In the dead of night, before chapter 1, he could have brought all the toys to the empty room at the school, and open the dark fountain. Potentially even bringing over some stuff from home, which could explain how Spade King was a character he played with as a kid, and a darkner. Staying up so late, and potentially turning off his alarm could have been to make him late for school so that Berdly and Noelle would get paired up together, leaving either Susie or Temmie as potential project partners (because who would have guessed Temmie would bring a hard boiled egg as a partner)This way, Noelle doesn't get to fulfill her role as The Girl in the prophecy, and she gets to survive, leaving Susie as a worthy sacrifice instead.If we find out something unfortunate to Jockington that almost made him miss school, then that would also point toward this theory, and Catti being another potential sacrifice.And because I like explaining this, and I've got a feeling someone's going to ask. The scheme between ch. 1 and 2 I alluded to was how during chapter 1, the TV is unplugged, but in chapter 2, it's plugged in. This shows that Kris was already planning to make the chapter 3 dark world from right after his first outing with Susie. He also ate the entire pie, which gave Susie and Toriel a distraction while Kris goes off to slash the car's tires. And he only slashed the tires so that Undyne would be called, leading to her capture by the Knight. It would also make Toriel want to sleep in the living room with Kris and Susie to keep watch, which would make her an easier target for capture as well.
Does the fell version of Asgore have any memories of Rudy, or could a man like him not have even made it long enough in Underfell's world for a meeting to happen? His dynamic with Gerson is notoriously underdeveloped, and largely serves the same purpose of being revolted at his actions as king of the Underground much as Rudy is frightened at his wife's desperation, so perhaps it isn't narratively necessary.

His role is that of a priest, and he does give off an impression of someone who blindly believes that his deity will guide him towards the path to peace. He just did his best to placate and not escalate, and him having a crisis of faith coming right after the Titan fight is pretty appropriate, even if the main focus is the Prophecy reveal.
