I've been thinking about this SatAM concept art for a while. There's the rumor that it was an unrelated project that was turned into a Sonic cartoon mid-development, and it tracks (there's simply no way you could get 'green-skinned demon lord' out of 'mad scientist that turns animals into robots'). But on the other hand, that's never actually been confirmed, which leads to my other theory: SatAM was always meant to be a Sonic cartoon, but SEGA gave DiC no reference material whatsoever (Archie faced the same issue when they had to adapt SA1). And so with literally zero knowledge of the game beyond the title character, they wound up building this whole Don Bluth-esque fantasy world around Sonic, then SEGA saw what they were doing and forced them to tweak it into the show we got.

I went on a deep dive in to the sonic social media community, you know youtubers who are all about this life and I'm horrified at what I've found, they're as crazy s you motherfuckers and Surge is wicked popular among them to the point she has the same VA in every single one of their fan projects who wants to officially voice surge if she ever gets the chance to have a voiced appearence, Tailstube and Chaotix case files have inspired this leg of the fanbase to push for her to be the official VA of Surge when the time comes.But on a lighter note I'm a bit very annoyed at Sega for how bad they are at managing their mobile titles. Sonic speed battle and Sonic dash have been living for over 10 years at this point, yet when it comes to Sonic runners and Sonic rumble they've floundered and died because of the endless greed, like the sheer aducity they've been doing on those projects killed the games, then there's Sonic dream team, a fucking apple store exclusive product with even less incentive to keep playing after being story mode, it doesn't have alot of costumes, it doesn't have a lot of characters for larpers and it doesn't have a string along plot either.
