They realized dungeons as an actual e-sport-esport like they wanted in MoP wasn't going to happen, so they simply decided to sell the approximation as a feature for future expansions. At the time, only raids were considered 'the proper' endgame content and anything with dungeons was just babby tier. They wanted to upgrade dungeons so that group content for 5man groups contended with raids in difficulty, so that it could justify offering loot that is par with raid loot. The timegating shit, that's just a result of how people play. If you don't want your game to get perma brigaded by Tigole types, a good way to nip the "nothing to do" poopsocker whining in the bud is to restrict how much progress they can make in the same timeframe. Aka weekly lockouts, timegated upgrade materials, releasing only one wing per month.

>>560504763I miss when raids were built like Naxxramas, it's really the culmination of what WoW raid design should have been and stayed like. Just completely open-ended, you can tackle whichever wing you want in any order you choose, and you can unlock the option to fight the final two bosses after clearing one wing. I'm grateful that in Midnight, they're at least bringing back raids with only one or two bosses in them, because it's understated how important they are. Not everyone wants to do 7 or 8 fucking raid bosses in a row, while having to fight a shit load of obnoxious trash in between. This also allows pugging to be a lot more lenient, as you're not literally carrying people for 7 bosses just to fall apart at the 8th.
It's done, finally made my first actual alt. It's taken an entire day's worth of playing to level up an extra character that I'll probably never use, just to unlock this race, and a lot of confused wandering because I haven't touched alliance in a decade, but here we are. Still got one more thing to wonder about before I proceed: Which campaign do I level up with? I was planning on doing a thing where each alt levels up in a different expansion/campaign so I can test whether the postgame stuff (world quests, ambassadors and shit) unlocks for all characters when you finish it. Which expansion/campaign fits with the paladin best? And no, wotlk doesn't count because doesn't have postgame stuff to unlock, it has to be something more recent. Also while it isn't the paladin, I do plan on making a zandalari, so I'd rather if BFA wasn't it either.
