The Wheel has turned once again

lolibatgirls.swf edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

If you mean what happened with the sidhe lords, those were killed in isolated raiding actions instead of an actual army to army conflict. Another turn like this and Eriu's raiding pressure will collapse.

Granted this game is over in 2 turns anyways, but still.

https://thronebooru.booru.org/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=artist%3Achamaji

For quality, anything that has art by chamaji is great, especially ragha in my opinion, and MA Ys has some really professional art that has been done.

/domg/'s own sketchanon's best work was probably asphodel, and asphodel is in the top 5 of nations in terms of how much art they have. MA Atlantis also has a surprising amount of well done art for something that is even in depictions an ugly Deep One. In general being an ugly amphibious creature or from latin america seems to be the secret to having a lot of dominions art, and since MA Xibalba is both from latin america and an amphibious creature it has the most art by a landslide

Play Mekone with the dormant Bronze Colossus, it's one of the funniest things I have ever seen
Take 5 in Air for Storm and Wrathful Skies since he can do both with the right equipment/enough gems (or you can pair him up with one of your air randoms after equipping them with an air booster and gems/gem gen to cast Storm in his stead), 2-4 in Earth depending on what you're looking for (you can use him to cast Earthquake but your Cyclopes can do personal flight and then lay it down just fine with earth boots and 3-4 gems per cast), and I personally like taking 3 in Astral for golems, but that's just me
Either max Order and Misfortune or if you're feeling retarded like I do sometimes, Turmoil and Fortune
I take 2 Shock Resistance, 2 Reinvigoration, and 1 Magic Resistance, adjust that to your personal tastes, but I recommend at least keeping Reinvig around
And if you don't like him, it's Mekone, you don't need a gigabless, just make shit up and try it out as you go
This build also works with Pyrene, but the /domg/ veteran™ in me says it might be a bit of a waste because Pyrene already has high Air access, but who cares, just have fun
>>
>>560845258
Vanheim is right up your alley, although you might want to consider imprisoned magic weapons alongside your statbless
>>
>>560845258
Vanheim or Tir to experience elves
>>
>>560845258
Anons are saying Vanheim but Helheim is better for a rainbow. Vanheim's zerk sacreds have no defensive non-incarnate options, whereas Helheim's cav can get even more def. Lanka's cap mage can also be a Cloud Trapeze thug and a hellrainbow can work on their demons. Fomoria is another option, cap giants are obviously thugs but their anyfort druids are A2H1 giants who can raid with a bless, some gear and mistform.

Can a Blood Feast cure diseases?
>>
>>560862674
yes
>>
>>560862674
>Can a Blood Feast cure diseases?
I do not believe that it can.
It seems that all of the methods for curing disease are tied to nature one way or another (Gift of Health global can cure it, Cure All Elixir, Cure Disease spell). Otherwise, a few rare indies, the uncommon adventurer event, the Faery Queen, and some pretender chassies come with it innately.

The Dom 5 wiki suggests that a regeneration item can prevent death but you will still accumulate afflictions. I cannot vouche for that and it might be talking about in battle. I am unaware of regen items doing anything out of battle.
>>
>>560863816
Blood Feast just acts like a healing check no?
>>
>>560864014
As it is described on the dominions 6 mod inspector, it is 10 checks to remove afflictions (the red hearts). The Dom 5 wiki states that Disease is a special kind of affliction.
However, Dominions generally seems to treat disease in other circumstances as something completely separate from afflictions. For example, disease resistance and affliction resistance are two completely separate things.

Blood Feast might cure disease or might have a chance to cure disease or it might not cure disease and only address normal afflictions. My money is on it only affecting normal afflictions.

Ubar and Therodos
>>
>>560874856
Vanheim has limited options for their zerkers in an imp rainbow. Consider undying x5, recup and enchanted blood. This gives them effectively 10 more HP, 0.5 regen and heals all the wounds they'll be taking. This helps sponge the first hit they take before zerk kicks in and their prot shoots up. It's also good tankiness and wound healing for your thugs.
Besides that you'll want some reinvig (zerkers have 6 enc + 3 fatigue per round while zerking) and any elemental resists necessary vs the nations in your particular game.
>Ubar
MW to beat Ethereal isn't necessary, Vanhere attack skill and attack density is high enough to beat them. Just take sulphur haze to not worry about their thugs and magic.

Magic weapons is just a nice to have in general, and dealing with army of mist gets much easier lategame if your sacreds have it. Its also a cheap incarnate that fits well on many imprisoned rainbows, especially those looking to forge the expensive astral boosters later.

I think its probably a coin flip on whether to take that; while powerful there are other tools that don't make it strictly necessary. Unholy weapons is also quite nice on Vanheim, as dance of ephemeral blades, shroud of flying shards, and enchanted salt will all carry the unholy weapons effect. Unholy weapon Vanheim elf thugs are probably the strongest of the elf thugs in 1v1 against other elves, mostly due to enchanted salt.

>>560853808
Quite interesting takes, don't see any reason to disagree. I do think the Vanheim Vanjarls are slightly better than Helheim Vanjarls, at least when considering mass magic phase plays. Curious how the offensive focus of Vanheim's sacreds changes the value of a rainbow pretender compared to Helheim, and possibly pushes the ideal away from a statbless into an imprisoned bless with multiple of the 3-4 cost items. I for one am curious how unbreakable does on Vanheim.

>Lanka's cap mage can also be a Cloud Trapeze thug and a hellrainbow can work on their demons
Can you give an example of a hellrainbow bless for Lanka?
>>
>>560914842
You can do more with incarnate, but most of it is huge def stacking (def x5 + blur) and the mandatory fire res. Your sacreds are all size 4 or over size 5 with a lot of HP, so larger has no drawbacks and adds a lot of meat. If you're specifically thugging enchanted blood can help keep hp topped up if incoming damage is kept low, and the MR is good against demon smiting.
>>
>>560915313
Defense stacking leaves the sacreds vulnerable to arrow fire, and it doesn't help them kill anything. Defense stacking will probably die to niefel or muspel giants with regeneration and additional bless defenses, since defense stacking on Lanka will generally not be able to overcome the regeneration. It will also fare poorly against nations with reasonable archers like Ur, T'ien Ch'i or Sauromatia, or perhaps even nations with poor ranged units like slingers. I don't know how it might perform against glamored nations. Ubar is weird, but Ubar might just never get hit, two attacks per square isn't a lot against unseen + ethereal + glamour. And Ubar does have decent archers.
Generally, archers and the weakness of two attacks per square just seems atrocious for Lanka with a bless about defense stacking.

What would you supplement the defense stacking with? Imps, ganas, storm demons, sabbath skelespam, something else?

Larger would be good for extra map movement, but as for the combat boost, Lanka should have decent access to nature mages to buff troops with enlargement, so while larger is good, it can already be covered somewhat well.

Possibly, although I would certainly want to run the undying + EB combo. I don't think its ideal, and possibly far from it, but I'm curious of the outcome. Moderately high prot berserkers tend to build up a good number of afflictions, or at least they do when I play Vanarus. It'll be worse in EA due to the number of giants though.

Are nations with W mages secretly overpowered?
I don't think I've ever once seen someone take a cold res bless or ever cast a cold res spell in all the time I've played. Surely you literally just waltz through everyone because apparently it's completely unexpected?
Meanwhile every game I play in everyone has a minimum of Fireres +5, Poison res +5 bless.

>>
>>560984536
Agree with the other poster, and see the general lack of CR mostly because CR 5 with prot is viable against most cold damage outlets such as grip of winter or falling frost, frozen heart being the outlier. W magic however is extremely important for thug based approaches as quickness is the best army thug buff hands down, in many cases effectively doubling the output of your thug squads. Underwater fights needing water is contrasted by not having any magic phase capability.

It's only 10 popkill and 0.3 unrest on a cap-only sacred, you'd need a lot of them to really AIDS up land. EA R'lyeh doesn't want to popkill/unrest coasts it's taking, so you'd want to use them on land sparingly or for coup de grace operations where you aren't, say, sitting on the enemy cap you're trying to take with 1k popkill and 30 unrest for more than a few turns.
And SCBM automatically increases the pop level of extremely low provs on game start, so there's more pop to go around period.

For Pel Triton Kings (EA and MA) got giantlike stats befitting their sprite and base S2, so they can all teleport thug with skullcap and 1/3 can do it natively. Their Sideraspist also got formation fighter and became a decent little unit for EA.
These combined with the old addition of cheap W1S1 ichtyids in coastal forts means EA Pelagia has a reason to do things with blesses and a way to project power on land.

Granted 10% on a 500g str cap mage probably lets you get one at most as an easter egg, but otherwise you have to fit it into their randoms and I'd have to think about what to do. It wouldn't be worth diluting their main random, going from 50% chance for W4 or S4 to 40%.

I'm in 1 game currently with EA R'Lyeh, while also having them both in a previous EA Ulm game and EA Rus game. Their slave troll push with falling frost is decently strong, their issue imho is that people have no idea how to play them rather than their tools being inadequate. Their UW bowl matchup is decent too.
>>
>>561055631
Ulm changes are enc 3 -> 2 factionwide (because barbs have enc 2 and EA Ulm is described as a barb faction with full barb stats in everything else), and Antlered Shamans getting D1, so you can TB them all with a staff.
>I think EA Ulm is much stronger than its reputation suggests
It's good at elfing, but it dies to real magic and MR checks.
>>561057754
Popkill is the coolest thematically, though I get the popkill hate. If I could make them harm the accompanying slaves and only popkill if slaves run out I would, but Illfraud would never allow such glorious mod tools.
Exhaustion would require you to either take a melee gibodai hellbless (which is very hard to use with the surface debuffs) or stack reinvig to get around, and would partially counter the OP mindblaster reinvig stacking. Would probably increase the unrest from 0.3 to 0.4 - 0.5 if I removed the popkill.

Those are cool changes that I don't think are problematic. Having a more consistent access to D2 instead of 1/16 shamans will be quite nice.

>but it dies to real magic and MR checks.
Not really. By the time enough MR threats appear to prevent fielding Ulmish troops, normal human troops will also be effectively removed from the battlefield. Yes you can't build huge doomstacks with EA Ulmish troops, but its a thug nation which shouldn't be doing that anyways. Warrior smiths all have solid MR and can cast iron will. There is some tech that works exceeding well against the Ulms early, but thankfully its not widely utilized; you even buffed it and I still don't see it used.

I still harp on about the maul's damage, but most of that boils down to bludgeon being a shittier damage type on the whole, plus great swords have good atk/def stats.

Cool, thanks for all the effort!
>>
>>561066848
Maul's already the hardest-hitting mundane weapon in SCBM, hits for 11. Iron Warriors do one more damage than Steel Warriors with their magic greatswords.

Magic-weapon undead inanimates is arguably one of the worse match-ups for wraith lords. In that specific case, going for tartarians might be a better option. Even though tatarians are complex to get working, regarding turning them into commanders, healing them of afflictions (they are undead, might require corpse stitcher), and dealing with their insanity.

Apart from that, wraith lords can cast wither bones or control the dead, which might do a little bit. They are immortal, so unless Asphodel can do something about that immortality, they might be able to wear down the enemy a bit. And they can always assist armies with summoning longdead. If you have lots of death gems and construction 7, you could even try to go for undead mastery, but that may take way too much, even with empowering and lots of death boosters.

rip to my (cheap) fluffer. but is there some world where you just throw them next to some units set to HOLD and let them steal their life for an early boost?
>>
>>561186091
Yes, but typically you want to put 5 bodyguards with regen as soul vortex batters; lamias and trolls tend to be the preferred choice, but things like vine ogres or basic troops can work if buffed with regen. Several nations view the lamia soul vortex battery as core tech, particularly the CTis nations.

communion slaves? just spread them out if you don't want them to die to soul vortex. if you mean blood slaves, put the blood slaves on another commander and keep him close enough near whatever blood mage is casting soul vortex so that the slaves are still usable but won't die to the vortex

Still its better to stay in. Your turn times will be short, and when someone does attack you then put all your effort into causing them pain. Last stands are when you get creative AND efficient with your units, plus the minimal cost in trying stupid shit. Once you cannot cause any further damage then going ai is acceptable, but bowing out early just because of a bad expansion just fucks the players farther away from you, as all your neighbors will get free lands, possibly skipping their first war.

In a strict sense, LA Tien Chi supposedly represents the mongels, which the White Scars were inspired by; however the hot ladies in support will be highly lacking. You'd have strong offensive mounted thugs, nature and air themed without a focus on forests, plus tons of hot elvish bitches everywhere you look. New player here, I like the Freak Lord. He looks funny and I really want to Freak It. What's the best age/empire combo to Freak It so hard that I attain divine apotheosis?
>>
>>561275548
Anything with easy access to blood searchers, and make sure you give it the right paths to cast crossbreeding / improved cross breeding.
Huge meme strategy, unfortunately, but it's fun and you do get pretty nice things sometimes.
Blood is very micro intensive and not really beginner friendly, though, so make sure you test things in single player first.
MA Abysia or EA Mictlan are good ones.
>>
>>561275548
I've run freaklord for EA Ulm and in a few other place; mostly for some rainbow dormant/imprisoned stat bless that had blood surge, or one of the blood incarnates. Baring something weird, the choice between dom 1 pretenders is driven by which path you need to the highest, and what rainbow starts with 1 in that path.

In short, any nation you want unholy weapons, vampiric weapons, or blood bond alongside a decent stat bless. If you just want the incarnate and don't care for the stats, taking a fountain of blood or similar tends to be better.
>>
>>561275548
Freak Lord works for pretty much any nation, but generally it's best if they have native blood access to begin with
Take at least 5 blood on your freaky boy so he can craft Brazen Vessels and other boosters to give himself and other blood guys +1 blood per item, this is how you can reach stuff like Demon Lords
Maybe take some earth, like 3, so you can do Dwarven Hammers for your crafters, and Earth Boots and Blood Stones for your earth guys (if you have any). Blood Stone is important for the Freak Lord since he can't equip something simpler like Earth Boots, and then he can cast Father Illearth
If you can fit in like 3 Astral, you can also summon golems and do some other "fun" stuff, but astral leaves you open to other astral mages so watch out for that
Other than that, just experiment and do what seems cool to you, it might not be thematic to give the freaky blood guy like 5 in air and tell him to go shit lightning on everyone you don't like, but you can make it work if you want

Put said mages in 7k to 10k pop provinces
Kidnap little girls in said provinces, also remember to make labs in them to make your life easier, but you can ferry the girls around with scouts and whatnot as well
Have your Blood 2+ guys cast ritual spells of your liking (Devils, Demon Knights, and Storm Demons are pretty good)
In combat, bring a couple girls with your blood mages that you choose to be combat casters to shit out imps and whatnot, and cast some bullshit like that life for a life spell against thugs/SCs, and blood rain against armies

I think B2 hunters can mostly avoid SDRs as they have a 10% + 40/level * 2 levels = 90% success rate without, but B1s nearly double their output with them. However assigning a good number of your blood mages to summoning duty is probably correct early. If the nation primarily has slow to recruit cap only hunters and I have a reason to commander spam, then during peacetime I utilize those mass commanders to hunt, as each effectively gives around half a slave of output a turn. That does impact your income fairly significantly because tax generation occurs after the blood hunting unrest generation but before the patrolling unrest reduction, nevermind the consequences if you don't patrol enough.

Some mindless units probably need directions from commanders. And thus they might not do anything if the commander is distracted or is asleep, for instance.
Longdead might be terrible as bodyguards, simply due to the diseases and rotting stink they might have that would make them undesirable to keep around when sleeping, for living commanders.

Well, if you aren't neck to neck for victory and you don't have a way to permanently take out whoever's leading, going for Pandemonium is kinda your only chance

>>561440534
It's pretty fun. Dominions has this thing where the early game is fun and exciting, and then it slowly turns into a chore as you approach the late game and micro increases. SI is the opposite: at first you can't really do shit, but as you progress options start opening up rapidly. And due to the design, it doesn't turn into micro hell, and shit usually stays pretty tense until the very end.
Right now we've got a clear leader on prestige points (400+, everyone else is at 50-150), but a different player has taken the capital of Hell and will win if they're not destroyed or the capital isn't freed. But in those cases the other guy wins, so everyone needs to find a way to take both fuckers out.
It's got some annoying jank about making games (minimal match customization, having to say how many players and not being able to change it later...), but the game itself is pretty nice and fluid.
Balance is debatable. I partly disagree with >>561445251. Dueling is strong but it takes many turns to give you one victory. Elocution is definitely strong but it also costs resources and a ritual slot every turn, which is very expensive early on. It is pretty nice later, though.
Pandemonium should be a bit better defended and tribute hoarding is too strong and encourages passivity, but the next update is addressing those two problems by giving mass demanding tribute a penalty, and by allowing everyone to support Pandemonium with legions

Just a heads-up, I don't know if it's a hackjob of a crack, or if the game's just buggy on its own, but sometimes as soon as map generation starts it experiences an error that needs a restart or you'll just be stuck waiting forever

I did some testing
10 of them 'reliably' kills any SC I've thrown at them even with an insane 15+ reinvig. (fatigues out after 3 rounds then just gets hammered to bits)
15 guarantees absolutely nothing currently in the game survives them. You have to spend 75 gems for even equal items for something asphodel gets for free. But they aren't equal, they all have MR negates, or Inanimate immune, or at least something to prevent the fatigue.
Maybe the helm that auto casts lightning bolt and the shield that auto casts shocking grasp would help, but if the aspho player was smart enough to take the strength of earth bless (+10FR/SR) then you're shit out of luck there as well.
It's actually insane how amazing these things are with the +10FR/SR bless, single handedly carrying all of Asphodel on their backs.

dominions has thousand of chassis types and hundreds of spells, but really you see the same few dozen chassis being summoned and the same dozen or so spells being cast over and over. i wish they would do a big pass over everything and bring things more in line
>>
>>561665969
Yeah, GG. It probably wasn't necessary to usurp but it's definitely more exciting.
I was using my prophecy 6 to scry relics a dozen turns ago and immediately found Mammon had a kingmaker crown, so I thought, I'm not letting that happen to me and started preparing to hold Panda. Then Mammon went for taking Panda himself right before I committed which obviously meant I wasn't his target, and so I could have settled for teleport backstabbing him and winning the election. I was paranoid though because I had mentally committed to the usurper victory and hadn't bothered scrying Andromalius who could have had a kingmaker himself, and so I thought screw it, trust the plan, and risked fighting everyone. Definitely more risky than that tiny possibility but that's on me for not scrying to be sure.

Yeah it sucks when you're stuck in a multi front war and then someone throne rushes to win because other players didn't take adequate precautions. But as you said, its still quite fun to be grinding out that war even if you don't claim victory. This is one of the worst case scenarios for having lower throne victory requirements, the other being a straight early rush; compared to the worst case scenarios for high throne requirements I think the choice is fairly obvious. Despite it being somewhat bullshit, at least you can say it was both interesting AND required a decent level of planning. Hopefully the other players pay more attention next time and have the experience to do something about it.
>>
>>561637968
If you can empower in F for phoenix pyre, it can function like a higher tier phoenix pyre golem without the magic phase capability. Unfortunately that's a pretty bad trade, although the iron dragon chassis is much more capable in actual combat, you can reliably kill it with FR 15 flying thugs using an axe of hate. With a thaum discount site I could conceive of times where I'd prefer the iron dragon route. In my recent game I was viewing them as a high tier E dump alongside me using a const 20 discount site, but I wouldn't have considered divine naming them.

What makes /domg/ special is the nature of diplomacy in Dominions, and how having only in-game messaging with the general chat drives creativity. In several cases when I needed to move diplo along quickly, I would tell the other party to leave a semi-coded message in the general. Something like "get on over here and die like a X", or "Y needs to pack their shit and go home." I've done several different types of public diplo and this is unquestionably the best unless the lobby is roleplaying. Don't even get me started on what binding public discord diplo looks like ...

Had such an amazing expansion and managed to get another cap but flew too close to the sun. Made myself look too scary.
Wound up being a classic case of people being more interested in fighting rather than thrones, because Shinu and Nazca didn't fort any of them, Mari despite being completely unharassed the entire game didn't even bother claiming and forting the thrones next to him.
As soon as I saw Ys jump and steal the one under me immediately after the Sceleria war, I moved to kick him off but Aspho and Mari declared war because I was the threat (not caring Ys was snagging thrones like nothing)

At the very least, I do prefer a quicker end with lower victory costs. I realized half way through this game did NOT have Cataclysm enabled and 'set yourself AI' was completely disabled so... Yeah, I am glad it ended at least before it could go to turn 100.

One problem with Dominions is that players have both different information and metrics for determining who is the threat; I for one have been declared the threat purely for having a strong scout network. Meanwhile in this game I was 40ish provinces when starting my first war, then after eating some of Caelum and vulturing Pyrene I fought the 3rd and 4th place players (Abysia + Sceleria) simultaneously. There was still some resistance to forming a coalition against me even then. In short, both identifying and prosecuting the threat can be a big ask; doing so successfully often marks it as a strong lobby imho ... or at least not a weak one.

With fish or underground nations it can be hard for land nations to get an accurate accounting of their size with hitting their cap with acashic knowledge.
>>
>>561715483
I like that
Solium Infernum isn't adding so much conversation that the thread feels derailed, but I've noticed that we don't need to bump it so often to keep it from dying. So in the worst case we're just swapping empty "mention a random spell" messages for some comments about a different game that's still of the same rough family.
There's lots of async games for two players but almost no async games for large groups of players.
That said, Shadow Empires sucks

We got Awe 2 Regen Centaurs (who in Nationgen get Naga body meaning they usually have 30 combat speed regardless of armor)
We got Dust-Walkers from Hidden in Sand, 3 to a square 25 hp and 16 strength.
We have an entire nation of Foul Spawn with Gacha mechanics that make your PC lag when you open their PD screen.
We have many fish nations, from flying fish to Swallow on Trample Carps.
We have 2 Snake Nations, one Cold with Ice Weapons, one Warm with Heat Power.
Multiple flavors of Horburg nations, from Mecha to Flowerpunk.
A full Asmeg Nation, with flying, glamoured, golden armaments sacreds and Aesir mages.
Tusked Ones Elephant men nations that have 2 attacks per square, unlike most other giants and are only vulnerable to starvation.
A daeva nation, with better stats than a Caelian one.
Flying Monkeys with compact wings that don’t affect their size.

>>
>>561882164
I wonder if you should have held off on that fight for another turn or two while fully concentrating your forces, even if that meant you'd have me get on your cap. That army lacked the archer density needed to break my Ulms, and in fact I probably didn't need those seal guards in a frontal sparse line on attack rear. Despite having more forces than me, I don't think you had enough to split and fight that army in two possible destinations.
>>
>>561884640
Yeah, I had the same thought. I really wanted to contain you up above the mountain and thought the PD would be enough to compensate for the lack of normal troops, but that obviously didn't pan out. I really just wanted to keep you contained up on the other side of the mountain, because now pinning you down might be very annoying.
I've also consistently made the mistake of thinking that you have less money than you apparently do. There must be a really good mine down there somewhere.

>>
Troggs need a larger bat group, the leader can be sniped but he has a lot of HP
Cynos are best handled by either your god, or your prophet assassin. If not, then a large group of sacreds. You will cry.
The sacreds are OK. Not great, not terrible. Not worth focusing on, as once you hit Ench 5, your nation becomes skelespam:the nation
>>
Cersith, welcome to the game.
Fire power wights that live in primitive cities and have no helmets is sure to turn heads, but regrettably, I forgot to make a Ghoul representative for this nation gen, so you are the only Undead nation.
There was an interesting one that specialised in reanimation, but I swapped it with a barbarian/Ulm nation.
Maybe the Burgbred Abysians with their flying mech suits can join you
Or Chauville, the roman monkey nation, since they can handle high heat scales and their sacred turn into Ghouls on death.

It's a nice selection of nations. Most have something very nice but something else very bad. With the occasional hyper broken shit on either side of the scale.
The rooster is hoburg-heavy and there's a nation of trample-swallowing carps. What's not to like. It's like hungry hippos but Dominions edition
>>
>>562002835
Any fun spells?
>>
>>562008693
Some nations get those spellsinger communions. The Roman Monkey nation has Abysia’s unique spells, including sacred smoulderghosts.
Rimvaettir nations get Jotunheim’s spell lineup including Illwinter, but there aren’t any for this round, yet another group I forgot to include, got too trigger-happy with the hoburgs. The fact that I included half-elf Halflings, but also just straight up Vanir was a choice. But I also included a nation that is straight up just better Hinnom so…
And yeah, some nations I tried to balance, either by picking the iterations with poor armour coverage or shitty forts (don’t forget there’s a master mason mercenary you can pay to upgrade your forts) or poor magecorps options, or shitty sacred (like the daeva nation, where your weakest unit is your caelian sacred or the frost Snakeman nation where your sacred is the only one without magic weapons) but some were just so badass I couldn’t get rid of. Like the all white calfs Pangaean nation, where your centaurs have regeneration and awe or the civilised minotaur nation, where, just like with Andramania, your strongest unit has formation fighter (they also have masons).

Prophecy helps a lot at lvls 2 and 5, I always get at least one I can do soon without going too far out of the way.
>charisma is the best out of all powers
It's really not. I'd argue it's deceit, but none are going to win you the game by themselves.
>you should always have fucking elocution up
It's good during downtime, but the constant cost and ritual slot usage adds up. My table looked like this at one point last game, 5 prestige a turn was my lowest priority.

At Heat 4 its +4 to Strength/Attack/Defense/CombatSpeed
But none of the nations have abysia’s pop resistance, so heatscales will melt your population with or without forts, which is where high growth comes in, except you also need high order because Primitive forts (for Dust Walkers at least) and no pretender option gives you both. Either Growth 3 or Order 3.

I think it's more of a newbie's disease. We don't really know what we're doing so the first wall seems the worst.
Charisma won't save you from someone slapping your shit to death and the capstone is trash. It helps a lot with dueling, but if you thing someone is going high charisma you can go Deception and steal the praetor. Or go Destruction for that sweet "someone's stuck at 1 action per turn" spell.
The plots are a bit of a mess, I agree there

>>
>>562076242
How's it different from the OG gameplay wise?
>>
>>562088272
Gameplay is essentially the same, roughly speaking.
The original allowed you to create your own archfiend with a point system, but in practice the options it allowed weren't that different than what you can do with the current, more limited creation system and it was a bit of a solved game with some clear optimal choices, so as cool as it was, I'm not really sad to see it go.
Balance has changed a lot. The original was a lot about buying crap and training it up into something terrifying. Now it feels like a cheap legion or praetor isn't really going to catch up with an expensive one bought straight off the market. Not sure that's bad, though, since it also means that you can come back more easily if you lose something.
Praetor duels are also completely different. They used to be a mess with multiple phases where the praetors would use all their abilities. Now it's essentially rock paper scissors with some mindgames.
Also tribute works differently. Tribute quality used to depend on your infernal rank. Now the rank only determines the amount you get, and quality is determined by your highest power.
Also built in servers instead of old school sending save files to the host player per email.
All in all positive changes that make the game more playable and balanced. But part of the charm is the byzantine hostility of the game: how does turn order work? Dice rolls? Fuck knows. It's infernal bureaucracy, deal with it. Some of that has been lost.

Honestly my biggest pet peeve is that they've moved the lore to the encyclopedia. You used to see the lore text of everything right there in the profile of each item/legion/praetor in the bazaar and I think it added a lot to the feeling of the game.
Also there used to be some terraforming in there, although that's coming back next update.

Ethereal
>>
>>562133373
Ethereal reduces trample damage by half; the best choices are mistform or ironskin. A funny choice is also stygian rains as their trample will easily out damage the 15 invuln. Darkness is great as it only reduces the victim's def roll in the trample check but not the trampler's.

For you its probably as part of an army you cast marble army in, or in a block with an iron warrors cast. Earlier you can probably get by with a round of group ironskin if they are part of a mageball, but I'd assume less than 2 hits per cast when budgeting. Sadly the casting delay from communions makes it mostly impractical to try for the extra round of buffs after movement on round 3. If going all in on a pile of buffed elephants against units without darkvision then solar eclipse can help.

I didn't see what you meant here until I remembered Sabbaths exist. I'd never played blood before, but now I can very clearly see with just four sabbath slaves you can have an infinite amount of masters all spamming Raise Horde at d4 for 6 skeles each. Damn that's a fucking insane number of skeletons from mages you can literally recruit from every single cave province.

It's not quite infinite, but it's pretty damn brutal. The setup is to have 4 Ways - 3 of them as slaves, standing on a single tile, the 4th is right next to them spamming healing touch. And camazots go ham.
You do need to build 1-2 forts, or you can have a cheeky enemy take away your income by hitting your cap. But you don't need too many, the majority of your infrastructure is simply labs in caves spamming camazots. You'll never have enough money as Xib.
Enemies rushing you down is a problem. I think MA Xib is one of the more powerful nations of the era, but unfortunately, it seems that most people think it's weak. Which is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy as you'll frequently get attacked by 2-3 people at the end of expansion just because they think that you're easy food. You're not going to lose - camazots get you the required research VERY quickly, and you'll destroy any normal nation once they have to get down into the caves - but you'll often have to play whack-a-mole for the whole game until somebody on the other side of the world wins.
>>
>>562178149
Standard sabbath with Camazots slaves also works, of course. I just prefer the Way turbo sabbath, it can go on for longer - though you do need to replace your slaves every now and then. You can scale it to 4 slaves and 2 healers, add lamia bodyguards for soul vortex, add rings of regeneration, etc. Way slaves are used over Camazots for this because they get 19HP in their jaguar form.

I joined as disciple for team 4. what should i know about this nationgen mod
>>
>>562224830
Nationgen has a little program that generates random nations, with some filters and tweaks. The game admin created a bunch, hand picked his favorites, and packed them in his own version of the mod.
So there's nothing special to know about it. You just look at the nations and pick whatever you like.
Take a look at what other people have chosen and test your expansion in a singleplayer game.
>>
Yo admin, make sure the nations are correctly set before starting the game. I'm the pretender of team 2 but looks like someone had set me as the disciple, probably accidentally.
>>
>>562224830
Well the map is big, it was one I picked from Blitzserver’s map pool, it is much bigger than the “/v/ plays disciples” map for example. Hopefully it has a connected underground because I did not put in west-east wrap around.
We have easy research because it is more chaotic that way and, again, because we may well need it to even be able to fight.
Yearly Arena is in, that means sending your god to clear an arena is a poor choice, because sooner or later a People’s Arena will fire and your god will get caged.
For the nations present:
Team Hellenus:
has Lamia amazons, all have 25%+ regeneration, all have dying shape into Black Serpents.
Fukuichi is their Disciple, has Fort Cities. Its a slave nation, rocking cynoceps, most poorly armored but cheap and well trained. The nation is ruled by Konoha Tengu.

Team Nomark:
Badass Gundam hoburgs. From light striders to 3 meters tall clockwork walkers with magic weapons. Despite being a golem cult, none of their fort recruits count as constructs.
Faesunth is the disciple. A nation of foul spawns. From size 3s to size 7. Their entire troop lineup is randomised from a pre-selected pool. 90% of their commanders are sacred or priests and they have 14 options to chose from. All have exotic bodies for thugging. Many are old. Some of his mages are also randomised.

Team Kroon: Carpmen. They swallow on trample. Their sacreds are not cap-only and they are bigger than a human.
Djanfrut is, wisely, their Disciple. A nation of Lava Hoburgs. With atlantian support. Their mechs fly and can go underwater.

Team Chauville:
This is your boss. Lava-primates. Their death knights are no sacred, but are stronger the more candles they have in the province. Their actual sacred turns into a ghoul and has death power. They have abysia’s spellbook and can Infernal Breeding, Inner Furnace, Summon Ancestor, temple train smoulderghosts and they are an Astral/Death nation.
Their Disciple is Frasne. This is you.
>>
>>562227669
Yeah I noticed. I was gonna ask you to. I *can* do it from the server. But you could just go to Network, click on the game and change Nomark from Disiciple to pretender, then put your pretender in
>>
Ok, now that (probably) everyone is here.
Please, look at the settings for the game. Anything you don’t like? Anything you want changed?
For example, the map itself, although I picked one on the bigger side for a good reason, the risk of poor cave generation is real.
If anyone knows a better map that is still big enough to accommodate an 8 man disciple game, do say so

I wanted to mess with it just to see if I could do anythinguseful. I also did it to a crusher and gave him gauntlets of the gladiator as it was fitting. I also have the item that regens constructs so they do heal up. A bit if a meme? Yeah. But kinda funny, he even has most of the slots baring armor.
For the dragon I might just slap more dragons under him and use him as a mobile rape squad which seems like it would be fairly effective if not an inefficient use of gems. Can't forget style points when playing dominions.

Nah, I'm starting a new game so that you fags can suffer a minor setback and go AI, stale for a week to mourn the prophet you told to go kill himself, or ask for rollbacks. Fuck all y'all.

I wish we could "wish" for a new body. Being able to turn your feeble arch mage human pretender into something better without the RNG of transformation would be pretty nice.

I mean, I'd prefer not being hunted for sport by half the planet.

I wish the old CoE Dominions mod got update now for the new classes...

The dragons themselves, all the ones that can, change shape into humans. The only exception is some eastern ones who still like having a long neck, tail and big head
>>
Honestly, I'd play a DE game, haven't seen any non warhammer, sloop, or natgen mods in a while

Hi there. The YS player in question from this game. Since MAchaka posted the game results here ill answer and question or two.
>>561679016
For this one specifically my map area had NO good places to actually build forts before i murdered Oceania, the entire UW section of my part of the pond was my cap circle. I had to fight the UW THUNDERDOME on Indies and cap only stuff. But luckily for me the province to my direct south had Merrows for me to recruit. I was spamming out merrow druids from that province for literally the whole game starting on turn 5. Expensive? Yes. Useful? ALSO YES. Once i had killed Oceania i kinda forgot to turn off the recruitment for a while and just had a shitload of these guys hanging about in my pond. So i put them to use, and they killed that fucking Gorgon which had been destroying armies for the entire game before that fight.

Sorry to sound all gloaty but ive been trying to win a single MP game of Dominions for over 7 years now. This was my very first one. Had i not Throne rushed right then and there, you would have definitely won the game. So i had to go for it as hard as was possible. Me cheating like a bastard on my research by paying TC like 170 gems helped me SIGNIFICANTLY to get to the point where i could pull that shit off. I get the feeling that neat time i encounter the Shinu player from this game, he is still gonna be assmad i ruined his fun. Oh well.

Wrath of god killed my fucking 20 hp grey one that was forging with a dwarven hammer, boosters, and armor. I hate that fucking spell.

I love wrath of God and cast it literally every chance I get, easily my favorite global. Gets rid of pesky scouts, hurts or kills low tier units and commanders in your territory, what's not to love?
