The fundamental premise of this game is built around the idea that the Adventure style of Sonic gameplay does not exist with its own identity. The "original" Sonic is "brought back" to meet the "new Sonic" that "replaced" him, acknowledging some kind of distinction, while disregarding what fans typically consider another major change and abandoned style. Sonic Generations is supposed to celebrate the entire series, but if you see things this way, at the time it released the only main series games that used the Modern Sonic gameplay are Unleashed and Colors, only two games. Sonic Team wants you to think Modern Sonic's boost gameplay in Generations is a representation of Sonic's gameplay in Sonic Adventure 2.
