Honestly, if I can be candid for a minute, I think the recent announcements are worse than they seem at first glance.

Let me preface this by admitting I am aware I might come across as selfish or ungrateful, or even greedy.
But despite being 13 games into the saga, it has always felt like this would be a once-in-a-millennium Epic.
The idea of Liberl > Crossbell > Erebonia > Calvard, to me, always felt like the introduction to it. Maybe the first half of the grand story. Meeting key players from all over, learning the different systems and organizations, the conflicts and inner workings of the planet itself.

And then would come the second half, no longer restricted by Sept-Terrions and regions but rather global arcs going all over Zemuria, exploring things like the Molujia archipelago and that other island far to the East.
Dealing with Arteria and the Free Cities. Maybe visiting old places we never got to experience like Jurai.

But now, knowing that we're 1 game away from starting the Grand Finale, it all feels so... pointless? Deflated?
Again, I am aware we have 13 whole games, with the last 6 of them being over 100 hours long each.
But it feels rushed now. Calvard never felt like the prelude to the end. It was to be the midpoint.
The slow uphill climb before reaching the hectic second act.

It feels like Trails got its wings cut and the ball forced to stop once it reached the top of the hill.
We won't get that exilarating second half with the ball going downhill at full force to pay off all the building up.

I don't know. It just feels incredibly bad. These 6 years can't be enough for a satisfying finale, emotions need time to be processed. Now I know I can't look forward to an in-depth Arteria. There is no way we'll be touching Remiferia at all outside some random one-off dungeon. There won't be Jurai. There will be no focus on Northumbria. Molujia might just go down as a footnote, a neat "hey look Zemuria has an exotic achipelago".

It sucks.

>>
A way to bring back a bunch of characters and use them in the final arc is to introduced Suikoden-style Turn Based Strategy pitched battles. So like Alisa and Tita can use Orbal Gears, Julia has an infantry division of the royal guard, the Pantagruel (lead by Musse of course) is a heavy airship unit, etc.
That way you can bring in everyone into the story to contribute without having to make them playable

I would have agreed after Reverie and I don't say this to be an arcwarring shitposter fag but after Calvard I feel like it's time. Every interview Kondo has given in the last 3 years you can just feel how passive aggressive he is and how little passion they have left for Kiseki anymore and honestly the Calvard arc has felt rushed since its inception. I love this series which is why I don't want to see 20 more years of games where their heart is only half in it. I'd rather they wrap it up in the next few years even if I really would like to see the rest of the continent because I don't think I can take watching them put so little love into the games for the next 20 years. The series deserves better. Kuro 2 and Kai made me feel so fucking depressed and made me feel like I was abandoned by Falcom by how little it felt like cared.

>>
>>560893510
My two cents is that you people are too caught up in interviews, reports, what the other side of the world thinks, etc.
If you can recognize and acknowledge the similarities between the arcs, to me you are reading way too much into Kondo’s words. Because even back when sales were great and if in interviews Kondo said they were happily working on the series they produced a similar product, then why worry?
>>
>>560893770
Just like Reanasis...
>>
>>560893961
The reason I read so much into Kondos interviews is because after playing Kuro 2 and Kai I feel the strong need to understand what the fuck went so wrong with those games. And reading Kondos interviews and extracting the meaning from them gives me at least some sort of idea. Otherwise there's no way to explain why Kuro 2 and Kai are such massive unsatisfying fuck ups. If you don't feel the quality slipping at all then ok good for you happy for you but to me the writing for the series is on the wall and it can't be ignored anymore. Falcom obviously feel like their time with this series is soon to be at an end and I can't help but agree with them.
>>
>>560894354
They’ve been at for 30 years. 30 fucking years making a series that requires, or at least very strongly encourages you, to play maybe 20 games is crazy.

If you are the same person I replied to, I dunno how you could play CS3 in real time and not have that same dread. We have had two mismanaged arcs. If you dislike Kuro 2 and Kai the most fine I guess, but to me, after no game has reached the heights of Crossbell or Liberl, the doom and gloom seems extreme.
Let’s do a thought experiment: say Kuro 2 and Kai are the exact same games in a world where they sold similarly to what CS2 and CS3 sold in Japan. What changes to you?
>>
>>560894974
Trails is 20 years old not 30.
And like I said, I had plenty of problems with CS3/4s writing. But the one thing I can say about those two games that I can't about Kuro 2 and Kai is that it didn't feel like they didn't give a shit. Sales don't matter to me. If it had felt like Falcom gave a shit while writing Kuro 2 and Kai I would defend them even if they sold 1000 copies each.

Well we just don’t see eye to eye I guess. And I mean that Kondo said this series is gonna go on for 30 years. 30 years of shooting yourself in the foot and capping yourself by telling a continuous story in a medium like video games where the market is fickle and the norm is lowering the barrier of entry.

Sorry you feel that way but you just sound crazy to me. They made a whole 3D engine for their latest games and you think they don’t give a shit? You have two games in the Erebonia arc that barely moved the story forward but you think that’s love and care?
Good day.

Its definitely one of the cooler aspects of Calvard, yet it really hasnt gotten any main focus. I feel like ASO should have already investigated the nature of Van's demonic core, considering he almost cast himself into permanent exile because of it. Theres a trend recently of the heroes rejecting the solution to a problem, because it causes their friend to suffer, but then they never offer any alternative until the last second. When I started Daybreak 2, I was really hoping thats what the game would focus on.
>>
>>560898945
Falcom arbitrarily decided that things like the Grendel weren't allowed to be elaborated on until whatever the final game of the arc ends up being so it means things like that are just left in limbo while they pump out games. It's retarded.

You're crazy. Cold Steel II and IV are two of the most ambitious games of the series yet and introduced tons of new playable characters, locations and gimmicks in each game (you'll find nothing comparable in Kuro II or Kai). The CS arc develops and concludes all of its major plot points, as well as stories that were introduced all the way back in Sky and Crossbell.
There was passion.
>>
>>560912897
No one mentioned CS2 and 4
>>
>>560915815
The second post did mention CSII, and the first one explicitly likens Cold Steel to Calvard as "two mismanaged arcs". Not sure how you could misinterpret that.
>>
>>
>>560917219
Wrong, the second post does both and I clearly said CS3 is among the weak entries. CS2 was used to compare sales and nothing more, you brought up CS4 on your own. Not to mention how easy your argument comes up apart if I mention McBurn’s “awakening” at the end of CS4. That is an unresolved plot point. Beryl’s abilities are another. A man-made Elysium is another, and that’s just off the top of my head. I personally think that destroying <THE BOX> is more ambitious than a muted portrayal of a civil war and war world, as that should actually give us pay off into McBurn’s origins; we are likely to learn more of the beyond and the divergent laws.
The games I think barely advance the plot of Erebonia were CS1 and 3.

>>

She's hot
But when she was a faceless courier she was so chill and now she's a super pumped up adrenaline junkie. I guess it makes sense given her role but idk
>>
>>560917923
>Wrong, the second post does both and I clearly said CS3 is among the weak entries
Sure, right before calling the entire arc mismanaged in the next sentence. That's not "just CSIII", and it's incredibly dishonest to compare with Daybreak/Horizon. I'd agree that CSIII is the weakest of the Cold Steel games, but even then it introduces the entirety of western Erebonia, the Branch campus, new characters, revisits locations from previous arcs that weren't available in CSI+II, and progresses the plot concerning Osborne, his reformist faction and their schemes to wage an all-out war against Calvard. You've got new areas to explore, overhauled graphics and gameplay systems, entirely new crafts and S-crafts for every character, new outfits, new characters, etc.
Now compare that to Kai which mostly revisits the same locations from Daybreak I+II, barely even adds new crafts or minigames and doesn't progress the plot as well. These two are like night and day as third entries to their respective arcs.
>McBurn’s “awakening” at the end of CS4. That is an unresolved plot point.
As much as the Lance Maiden was in Azure maybe, and her story was resolved in Cold Steel. His supernatural powers were already known beforehand, what else do you need? He can always return for the final game.
>Beryl’s abilities are another.
A character whose mysterious powers have been played for a laugh since Cold Steel I. She's a reminder that there still exist mysteries outside of the scope of witches, gnomes, alchemists and whatnot.
>>
>>560898460
I like the red version because it makes him look like Rean
>>
>>560917923
>destroying <THE BOX> is more ambitious than a muted portrayal of a civil war and war world
That ""muted portrayal"" was more of a divergence from the usual gameplay loop than Ouroboros invasion of Liberl or Crossbell's fight for independence. You spend an entire game as fugitives during a civil war while soldiers roam the cities; have to hide yourself and use the highways that weren't accessible in the previous game. In CSIV, conscription offices have been set up everywhere and the entire tone of the setting changes as citizens are conscripted and sent to the frontlines left and right.
This argument sounds so dishonest if you compare these games to how crisis were handled in the past and present, not because Sky and Crossbell necessarily did it worse, but because Cold Steel by no means lessens the stakes as you imply.
On the other hand, there is nothing even remotely similar happening in Daybreak II or Kai on the scale of a war that drastically changes the environment of the games.
>>
>>560919159
And all the relevant stuff happens in the final chapter, like in Kai. Except even Kai had more cooking in the background than 3.
>>560919368
If you have 2 nothingburger games in a 5 game arc the arc is mismanaged. If you have no problem claiming that for Calvard you should have no problem claiming that for CS assuming you aren’t, like I said, stupid, blinded by nostalgia or both. Or a hypocrite.
Not every character has completely reworked crafts, off the top of my head Rean is the only one that gets entirely new ones and the rest of old Class VII has mostly the same ones except one or two are added. Kai redid the animations for all crafts of all characters and still added a few, gave Rean, Kevin and Rufus brand new ones, and they clearly upped their animation prowess with that game and Sky 1st kept the ball rolling.
Kai continues the plot of what the President was planning, why MTSC is such a big player in Calvard despite it being a foreign company, firmly establishes that timeloops are a thing. Sure, I want closure on the characters, especially Van with his demon core stuff, Aaron with the Taikun stuff and wish the games let Judith grow meaningfully instead of having her in her family’s shadow.
You guys place an abnormal value to minigames. I think Calvard’s fishing is better than Erebonia’s but have no problem admitting VM is the best card game in the series, but again, it is just a fun little distraction which I honestly had my fill of maybe halfway through Reverie.
And I think learning more of McBurn’s origins is clearly an unresolved plot point as it is quite clearly a huge fucking deal that a demon from another dimension resides in the one we know. Crazy, I know.
>>

>a demon from another dimension resides in the one we know.

>If you have 2 nothingburger games in a 5 game arc the arc is mismanaged
A setup game is not a nothingburger game, and CS1 way by no means a nothingburger.
The entirety of the Erebonian society and cultural war, the Jurai and North Ambria situations that pay off in CS3, major players like Irina Reinford and Rufus, the Divine Knights and Panzer Soldats that changed the nature of war, as well as a huge cast that was developed throughout the whole arc were introduced in that game.
It depicts the calm before the storm, but is by no means a nothingburger.
>>
>>560919432
My argument is dishonest when the very first thing you say is wrong lol?
Who is Class VII running away from? The Noble Alliance wanted to recruit Rean and in their vanity and pride never even imagined that a guerilla group, a more accurate term for Class VII in CS2, would ever thwart their plans. Crow did not want to fight Rean, he encouraged him to simply step aside. No military engagements were sicced on to them, so I have to emphatically disagree with you and again insist that this muted representation of a civil war, and mind you the only real war in the series thus far, was weak. A completely failed plot point that has been in the works since Sky. Now, having said that, the game does still absolutely have its strengths and finally moves the plot beyond what we knew at the end of Azure, introduces a faction in charge of one of the two treasures that ended up in the continent and lets Rean take control of a powered he feared and that caused him anxiety and feelings of inferiority and misplacement. The tone of 4 isn’t all somber misery and sobering reality that war is at the doorstep, I can concede that obviously people that were particularly jingoistic like Alan get affected and the feelings of pride for their nation and wanting to protected loved ones get perverted into this relentless hatred, but even still where people are half-heartedly entering a war they do not believe in there is whimsy to be found in Erebonia and frankly the fact you think Calvard is worse for not having a war is a weird complaint. As is trying to argue that the writing is much different tonally when the power PMCs like Marduk has, Gramheart’s penchant for displays of militaristic might, and the general unrest caused by a fucking nuke does have people disquieted, but like in Erebonia, whimsy and joy are still found in Calvard.
Hell if you want to say what happened to Celdic is tragic, Langport alone is quite comparable and that’s the lesser tragedy of the first game.
>>
>>560920690
As I just said, CS1 barely advances or adds what we know happens in Erebonia at the end of Calvard.
We know of its society since Sky, albeit because of the events of that game and its focus on the 100 Days War they were painted with a fairly negative light. We know there are differences in classes since Sky and that the tensions were such that a civil war was likely, and quite frankly what Osborne wanted, since Sky 3rd.
Class VII is a huge cast that gets unequal development and in this cast’s particular case most of them don’t really get developed past CS3, with the notable exceptions being Rean, Jusis and to a lesser degree Millium. Irina Reinford is not a major player whatsoever. She is there to be a cunt, nothing more and nothing less. That’s akin to saying Bergard is a major player in Calvard. The mechs are the single most important revelation of CS1 and they are revealed moments before the game ends. So yes, I feel quite confident calling it a nothingburger game like I do with Kuro 2.
>>
>>560921001
>My argument is dishonest when the very first thing you say is wrong lol?
Nothing I said is wrong.
>Who is Class VII running away from? The Noble Alliance wanted to recruit Rean
The Noble Alliance still searched for Rean and the other members of class VII (Machias and Elliot in particular would've been handled as hostages like Fiona was) to put down a potential threat that stood to oppose them.
It isn't until halfway through the game after they've already clashed a couple of times that Duke Cayenne asks Rean to cooperate.
>Crow did not want to fight Rean, he encouraged him to simply step aside.
That was just an act, the very reason why Vita aids him in the first place was to facilitate a fight between the Azure and Ashen Chevaliers to conclude the war and trick the curse. Crow never truly wanted Rean to set aside his morals and join Cayenne. He makes as much clear at the Infernal Castle.
>this muted representation of a civil war, and mind you the only real war in the series thus far, was weak. A completely failed plot point that has been in the works since Sky.
You might be misremembering after a lot of time has passed, but the civil war was a huge deal for Erebonia at the time. Every location from CS1 notably changes under the Noble regime, burnt out tanks are all over the place in Nord, Celdic gets completely burnt to the ground. An entire game deals with the war and breaks the tradition of sequel games just retreading the same paths and locations with barely any change to the atmosphere like SC and Azure did.
>Calvard is worse for not having a war is a weird complaint.
I didn't say that.

We go from a more or less peaceful Erebonia in one game to an Erebonia during civil war with barricades on the highways, soldiers stationed at towns and military key points, civilian deaths, war crimes being committed, people fearing for their loved ones in the next game - and this is supposed to be lukewarm, a "weak, failed plotpoint"? lol
>>
>>560924052
Yes, because no matter how you talk it up the civil war just results in one death and not being able to instantly travel to everywhere.

Three deaths if we only count those we explicitly see, and a lot more happening during battles between the two armies.
Given that class VII doesn’t participate in the actual combat and instead inflitrates noble camps to free hostages, that's to be expected.
But you seem to believe that the amount of deaths is the sole factor which decides an arc's stakes - that would essentially make the entirety of Sky FC and SC or the Crossbell situation meaningless because nobody notable dies aside from Loewe and Comrade G.
The journey and the change in atmosphere is much more important than the result of x deaths.

CS3 was a soft reboot of the arc. It was designed to be someone's first Kiseki game.
CS3 was a major moment for Kiseki in the west. It did roughly the same as FC did when it was one of the few JRPGs on Steam and then instead of losing 1000 peak players like SC did, it gained 1000 peak players. It also did very well on Playstation at least.

If I could change one thing about Trails, it'd be that Lloyd and Rixia get arrested at the end of CSII.
To make up for his actions, Rean decides to liberate Crossbell in CSIII and is joined by Elie, Tio and Noel in his endeavor (who all fall for him in the process). Once Lloyd is freed, he joins their ranks as a party member, but he's shipped with Rixia while the other three become part of Rean's harem.

That “complete social breakdown” was basically a smashed mirror in CS1. It simply falls to pieces following CS2. The nobles were losing that battle and the fact the war basically happens in the background because the arc decided to focus on high school students is a very missed opportunity.

You have been at this for a while and my stance remains the same: people like you who act like the writing in Calvard is somehow the worst in the series are impossible to take seriously. It is very on par with what Erebonia introduced, nearly as self indulgent too.

To me, the saddest part is that these should supposedly be their best years.
The Sky 1st remake supposedly sold a billion copies and was a major success. And Sky 2nd is on track to be the highest selling game in history according to them.
They even have all of 2026 to themselves.
And yet... they are still incredibly angry and bitter. All they can do is try to attack other arcs day in, day out. Their minds always default back to Rean, instead of hyping themselves up for Sky 2nd and seeing a fully fleshed out Liber Ark.

Pitiable, to be completely honest.
>>

Nobody besides Loewe dies. Weissmann turns into salt, Walter, Luciola and every other Enforcer survives (after jumping down dozens of kilometers).
No one dies during the Ouroboros experiments or the raid on Grancel. No one dies during Richard's coup.
You can count Weissmann for a total of two character deaths, both of them being antagonists.
>>
Sky is a dogshit arc
simple as
>>
>>560944693
Seems you realized your mistake. Why the sudden interest in character death after I just told you I do not place much merit in them? Why would Ouroboros go around killing civilians? Never been their MO, and that is especially the case in Sky.

>Why would Ouroboros go around killing civilians? Never been their MO, and that is especially the case in Sky.
The first Ouroboros member we're introduced to is Weissmann, a devilish schemer who mindraped Joshy as a child and is responsible for all of his pain. Also instigated the Hamel incident.
Next up is Bleublanc who wants to rape Kloe.
Walter is characterized as a murderous psychopath who wants to level Zeiss with earthquakes.
Renne LITERALLY uses a scythe and instant-KO skills as an executioner.
You don't even remember shit about the arc you're defending.
>>
>>560945043
No, but you have demonstrated you are.
>>560945139
Wrong, it was sending a child that couldn’t possibly kill his intended target to be a plant.
>>560945563
How do their quirks prove Ouroboros is an organization about senseless killing? Weissmann simply pulled a few strings in the right direction and we later learn that actually the curse and Lechter’s dad are the ones responsible for Hamel.
Walter likes fighting strong people and causing mayhem, and he wants a strong person to fight to the death.
Renne is the most edgy and yet we don’t see her ever kill a single person.

I think this revealed you viewed early Ouroboros as a big threat, which they were, but you are misconstruing their purpose.
In Sky their explicit purpose is nothing more and nothing less than obtaining the Aureole.

You want me to argue a point about killings I never brought up? It’s funny how every time you bring up dishonesty the shoe fits so you perfectly. It is also funny how offended you feel that you now have to make up this mythology about Skyfans. God knows I could spend all day saying shit about CSfags, but my point was never and is still not shitting on the arc, it was and is at the dissonance of people thinking Calvard has bad writing when it is an extension of Erebonia, an arc this thread came to love almost blindly in the last 5 months or so. Assuming you and 5 others aren’t just samefagging the same opinions of how cool Rean is and how Erebonia is Falcom’s take on War and Peace and all the other frankly ridiculous glaze the arc gets.
>waaaah why don’t you talk about Calvard like that!?
Because Calvard is free of delusional people that praise it to extreme degrees. People either tolerate it or say they hate it and it is the worst thing Falcom has done yet the still play it and talk about it often because it gets treated as a punching bag ironically enough by the people who have a very similar arc with similar writing and almost the same blue-haired brooding MC.

Again you reveal more and more about yourself. Your very first reply was an unhinged defense of 2 games I did not slander. All you’ve done is reveal your a mental midget that cannot tolerate dissenting opinions.
So my stance very much remains firm: if you have a problem with Calvard to the point you really think Falcom is done, but didn’t back in the Erebonia arc, you are either stupid, blinded by nostalgia, both of the aforementioned or a hypocrite. And clearly very emotionally fragile and unstable.

An apt way to describe yourself.
You've been here all day grasping at straws to shit on Cold Steel, acting as if your deranged opinion was the standard the rest of the world needs to adhere to.
Yet again you claim that Calvard and Cold Steel are equally bad with such an unwarranted confidence that I'm questioning if you're just suffering from an extreme lack of self awareness.
If you loved Sky and dislike to be reminded of the arc's shortcomings, that's fine, but don't pretend to argue in good faith when your actual aim lies in trite ragebaiting and nothing more.

So if all I am doing is “trite ragebaiting” why do you continue to reply? I think it is because you feel the shoe fits. You know you are stupid, blinded by nostalgia, both or a hypocrite.
Every arc has shortcomings. No arc is perfect. I don’t have a conniption because I cannot fathom people do not enjoy Sky or Crossbell, nor do I throw a fit because others do see them in the same way I do. Unlike you. And when you’ve nothing meaningful to say you cry dishonesty and subpost like the bitch you are.
And trust me, my opinion should be the least of your worries. As far as most Trails fans are concerned /fg/ is bizarro-Earth with what opinions are popular.

How do you have the shamelessness to act this way? I get that anonymity is a nice veil, but you yourself still are fully aware of what you are doing. And the person you are. You can't be anonymous to yourself.
You know what you did. You argued that the Angel of Slaughter, does not actually kill. You argued that the organization known for employing child assassins, did not actually intend to kill a civilian when sending one of its child assassins after him.
That's what you said. You. You have to go to bed today, knowing you spent your limited time on this world being disingenuous about video games.
Anonymity will not cancel out the shame of your actions here.
You will have to live out the rest of your life knowing just how pathetic and dishonest you are. And over video games. You will always be painfully aware of your actions here.
You know what you are.

Enjoy this reply you worked so hard to get. The reverberating shame you will feel for the rest of your life will never be silenced.
I will never know your name, I will never see you in person. But you will always know. Every time you look in the mirror, you will know.

>>560972249
Well, McBurn did imply it was a place beyond the invisible sea barrier. And we have had a person like Nina appear speaking an entirely different language so I'm assuming it is a tangible, physical space.

With how Zemuria has also been called a bird cage, I also assume that the barrier in space is part of the same barrier that disallows any from traveling beyond it from the sea

Horizon didnt give anything away though when it comes to what Zemuria and the planet look like from space, whether its cut off or appears round

My guess is that the Beyond is a place unchanged from loops unlike Zemuria, implying Zemuria was used as a kind of incubator, and a place that has a long forgotten past. McBurn also mentions upon reuniting with his true form that his people or place are entirely gone.

Zemuria may have been an effort or last ditch test for 'the goddess' to bestow upon great gifts, knowing they will corrupt humanity. With the ultimate goal of humanity leading itself to not be swayed by things like the sept-terrions as they have. This idea also reflects what appears to be the Grandmaster's true goal in observing the influence of sept-terrions on humanity.

There are other similarities with Nayuta, in that I could see the true state of that world, being somewhat reflected in this one, but in a different way. The similarities are clear

<31 Cypress Trees>

The good farmer Sheprott
Planted five cypress trees in his garden
The good farmer Sheprott
Dunged the earth carefully about them
The good farmer Sheprott
Suffered a year of pestilence
The good farmer Sheprott
Watched as all of his trees withered away
The good farmer Sheprott
Planted another seven cypress trees
The good farmer Sheprott
Dunged the earth about them even more
The good farmer Sheprott
Suffered a year of bitter winter
The good farmer Sheprott
Watched as all of his trees snapped in the biting cold
The good farmer Sheprott
Planted still another nine cypress trees
The good farmer Sheprott
Dunged the earth about them further more
The good farmer Sheprott
Saw his trees grow into a great canopy
The good farmer Sheprott
Watched as all of his trees broke under the weight of a great snow
The good farmer Sheprott
Planted yet another eleven cypress trees
The good farmer Sheprott
Plucked those which were frail and cast them into the fire
The good farmer Sheprott
Suffered another year of pestilence and great winter
The good farmer Sheprott
Watched as his last tree grew into a magnificent fir
The good farmer Sheprott
In order to confect a single grand cypress
The good farmer Sheprott
Planted thirty-two cypress trees
The good farmer Sheprott
With his loving goodness for them all
The good farmer Sheprott
Brought thirty-one cypress trees to the depths of ruination

At this point I genuinely don’t really understand the point of Heiyue, or maybe a better way to put it is they are entirely uninteresting.
So this whole bit seems to be a sort of continuation of what happened in DB1 where Gien thinks his son is unfit to lead the Lu family and really wanted Aaron as the Tyrant or even Cao to take over. Aaron doesn’t like Heiyue’s bullshit and wants to be his own man and so opts against joining, despite the fact Ashen is seemingly his best friend and despite the fact he considers the Lus family (and his bros too, but I guess your pretend-grandpa killing them and others doesn’t matter to him as much) so he goes the extra mile for them.
And this all had to happen because Cao obviously has ambitions of great power and clearly had Gien’s blessing to start a family of his own given the Lai family allied itself with Almata. And now this supposed criminal underworld, with seemingly only two big time factions (Heiyue and Almata) could get shaken up because internal Heiyue disputes mean the syndicate is weak and scattered and falls in peril of being toppled by some unnamed, supposed big-time organization.
And yet I am here wondering why Cao even fights us as he has both nothing to gain and doesn’t even test our resolve.

1/2
>>
>>560988506
I liked the part Heiyue played in Crossbell as it legitimately felt like they brought along a sort of “checks and balances” system to Crossbell’s underworld and despite them saying they do the same in Calvard, their place of origin, it doesn’t really feel that way. Their biggest opposition up and died, they already control Langport, Cao made his goal come true but I really do not see the end game. And the whole Aaron thing is just weird. I can understand getting worked ip for Fan and Ashen’s sakes but for Gien’s? And then at the end giving a shit Cao “broke” Ashen’s heart? Why would he care that much? If Gien and Lu are so cucked Cao did that to them and created his own family all the while what’s it to him? If he tried joining the organization to change it from within that’d be a good development and I really hope that’s the direction they take the character in. I like him, but his aimless drifter/actor extraordinaire persona really clashes with suddenly giving a shit about Heiyue disputes cause the Lu family got fucked.
And what about Xin lmao? Heir to a potty now that the Lu family has lost influence?

the issue with Trails is they haven't really been building up a fittingly grand villain to go along with the overarching story
Aidios or the church turning evil at the very end would be lame
Ouroboros have become morning cartoon "villains" and the GM is not interesting at all
The Beyond and any possible army are just too nebulous of a concept and any possible leader of said Beyond would just feel lame at this point
I could keep listing people we know like Thorndyke but there just no one that is bigger than a given arc
There's not really an entity we as the player can truly hate and wish to defeat to cap off the series
They've failed and a wet fart ending is unavoidable, we'll be fighting the Amalgamation of Sadness or some nondescript shit like that
>>
the grandmaster must be all-knowing or at least has knowledge of each of these loops.
Here's a theory. What if the recruitment of anguis/enforcers is her way of trying to round up very flawed people who may have contributed to the failure of other loops, and give them a home/outlet. We know Novartis was a unhinged epstein disciple in the last loop. He feasibly could have been responsible for the nanomachines/executors in the last failed loop. Maybe the GM was involved in changing up who the disciples were in this loop.

They're not evil, just shady. I don't think theres any chance of the Gralsritter ever becoming true villains though. The Church is always benevolent and every character we've seen in an important role in the church is an ally or portrayed as a good person. The only times the main party will butt heads with the church in this series are when they have separate methods to reach the same goal (Iscariot) or to test the main party's resolve before giving them the exposition that the church hides.
>>
>>560996525
“lol”

>>
We've had male protagonists and a female protagonist. The next arc should have a trans protagonist.
>>
>>560994606
i guess now we have the 5 demon lords of which one lives inside van...

The church has different factions some of which do give a vibe that the outcome they want is less than ideal. This arc's villain is the Box and how its fated the world to specific restrictions which many of the characters have been planning against, but its obvious that they way theyre sacrificing type claudels isnt completely just or a solution either

I could see a final villain being 'the end of the world'/existential threat and i suppose those who would want to usher that in would be devils or the demon lords. Maybe they want to retake the realm as their own or feed off despair, who knows

I could maybe see Nina going haywire to get in the way of plans. The grandmaster we ultimately dont even know their plan for after the box is defeated.

I take whatever Kondo says with a lot of salt. Maybe that's the "current" plan but clearly whatever the plan for Calvard was very clearly got stretched out a bit. I'd bet it's closer to 2036 or something as the "real" end (and even then maybe they'll keep up remakes; Crossbell remakes in 2030 or something like that). Still, weird feeling like I'll be in my 30s (early or late) by the time Kiseki finally is complete haha...

You are probably right. They dragged out Cold Steel because it kept needing more and it really does not feel like we're reaching a final game for Calvard yet. Without the next kiseki game being ultra long they are going to have to pull some heavy duty plot compression to get it done in one game.
