This morning I was wondering why the sword route was not exclusive to the weird route. It just seemed odd to me, since thematically they are very similar, and if this affects the ending of the story in any way then Toby has just made a bunch of more work for himself by introducing more variables (No Weird, No Sword. Yes Weird, No Sword. No Weird, Yes Sword. Yes Weird, Yes Sword.) Most game designers would simplify it, just to make it easier on themselves.But that got me thinking, perhaps there is a narrative necessity to structure it that way. Both routes are fundamentally about making a party member stronger, Noelle or Kris. What if the shattered panel in the prophesy was something like "The Strongest Hero Will Sacrifice Themself To Save The World."Susie is the default "strongest" hero, but by taking secret routes we are making others stronger, but also fating them to die.

The Sword Route being instructions for something in a previous chapter makes me think about how the forgotten man seems to be easier and easier to find without online help each chapter, with things in the overworld actually indicating where he'll be and NPCs leading you to him and stuff. This stuff makes you feel like the time-traveling timeline manipulating god but it doesn't explicitly force you to do things out of order, it's just how you're likely to end up doing them. The time travel isn't technically a part of a puzzle but you'll still do it anyways to access the puzzle
