I tried to do some quick maths on selling animals because for some reason no-one else has, not even on the wiki despite crop math autism being on there.Even if I ignore rancher price modifiers and artisanal products, aka just looking at the basics, I keep finding that produce is so valuable I don't think selling animals can compete with even farm animals you never pet or take care of properly. You just get so much more from any happy animal in the 24-36 days (depends on animal type, feed and skills) it takes to reach max hearts.I almost want to check how price modding works so I can just cut produce profits in half but I imagine I'd just hurt more from a homemade nerf than enjoy raising new animals each month even though that's the entire point of Coopmaster/Shepherd, to befriend faster.

You feed and pet them every day and little hearts appear above their heads, the same hearts that you increase with villagers. You also give them whatever cute or retarded names you want. The more your animals like you the better produce they give you. This is the same reason that butchery isn't part of the game. It was removed very early on because of how Ape was designing those things. It simply is not intended for you to just raise and sell them from a narrative perspective, and that's why it's reflected in the gameplay. The game is basically signaling you that if youre going to raise them purely to sell them, you may as well not do it at all because it's just so inefficient.

I do like Stardew, but theres many obnoxious or shallow designs in it that most of its copycats have at least done something about. SDV also had the advantage of being the first one, so anything aping it will never match up to the success since its the same experience with a different pallette.
