I have seen a lot of argument about timed blocking and whether it fits in the game or not, and how it undermines the block skill. It's definitely true that block mechanics tend to devalue the block skill, but after playing on a pure melee character for the first time in forever for quite a few hours I think the solution isn't to remove block mechanics like timed block, it's removing the block skill. Melee combat desperately needs some kind of active mechanic that allows for back and forth melee combat, and it currently does not have that at all. It essentially is stacking enough health and dps to outlast the enemy. A timed block/parry/whatever you want to call it fits perfectly in that gaping hole in the gameplay. And the block skill is very barebones, it amounts to passive increases to the amount of damage blocked, which is really doubly negative to the gameplay. It is itself a boring form of progression, but the need for some kind of progression to exist for a character skill means blocking is largely useless until you invest heavily in the skill, making all of the early game even for a melee focused character purely about which fighter has the more numbers on their side. The 2 noteworthy perks in the block skill, being the sprint knockdown and slowed time during enemy power attack, could very easily be moved to the one and two handed skills.

alchemy is so fucking jank, I have no idea how you would fix it either.most of the best ingredients in the game are for some reason extremely common shit like deathbell and blue mountain flower. making extra effect potions is such an unsatisfying mechanic because almost all of the multi-effect potions/poisons you can make are not complimentary, e.g. you can't make a restore health + restore stamina potion without a single rare cuiro ingredient, but you can make a restore health + fortify one handed + fortify health potion. A heal effect you use repeatedly, a defensive fortify effect you only need to use every few minutes and the same for an offensive fortify effect. all three effects completely clashing in terms of when you would want to use them meaning you aren't really gaining anything by having them combined in one potion. the bonus magnitude mechanic is basically unused, river betty and giant toe are the only examples anyone knows or cares about and giant toe only because it makes the potion worth more money, not more useful.the mechanic of revealing potion effects by trial and error seems like it might be worthwhile but in practice it's just a slog of fucking around in a menu that also sucks.there are way, way too many alchemy ingredients too, and despite that you still somehow have the situation I mentioned earlier where you can't actually make any good effect combos.imo, you need to cut a bunch of ingredients, I would change the mundane shit like wheat from being an alchemy ingredient to purely a food item. Then change the distribution of effects so that growable ingredients have the worst combination of effects so you can't make high tier combo potions purely with renewable ingredients, then change the non-renewable ingredients to have good complementary combo effects.They probably also need to cut a lot of the alchemy effects, like who makes a damage magicka poison ever? it's just bloating the distribution of effects.

Yeah I'm not to sure about Darkest Dungeon in Skyrim. The idea is nice but the execution is flawed. Missing navmeshes in the player 'home' are the first red flag. Missing map markers for dungeon entrances as well. The worldspace is crawling with overtunes enemies which is intentional because the author recommends bringing more than one follower along. However, the dungeons are mostly corridors with little space so followers will get in the way all the time. The hamlet has a few NPCs running around but none of them have any dialogue so far and there don't seem to be any quests, just a notice board with letters that don't trigger anything other than saying kill x yz. The dungeons themselves also don't have any light sources which makes them rather annoying to navigate. I get that the darkness is an actual mechanic in DD but in Skyrim it just causes the visibility to be rather poor.
