The priority is always to shield yourself or an ally when they need it, not mindlessly spam it. In reality almost no damage will be amped because during those brief windows everything needs to line up perfectly, ally attacks and lands hits during 3 seconds while you chose to shield them. You're looking at maybe 100 damage amped in total during a match, which is nothing.

I can count on one hand the number of times having 65 more shield would have saved meIf my team is shooting and being hit, I get the benefit of both, so I spam that shit. Even better if the team is grouped up. I'm not even saying there aren't times when holding it is better, but the damage boost is roughly as significant as the shield.
