Def from equipment is permanent but def from buffs is not. In the same way that max HP from levels/discipline is permanent but overheal max HP is not. Because most attacks deal more than 50 damage it's safe to assume that the overheal often only lasts for 1 attack. In that scenario, 50 HP for one attack is equal to 100 def for one attack. Accept that there is some luck involved with confusion, but you'll have 4 characters that can cure it and the other 2 can carry potions.
The only restrictive teambuilding is that two dual-caster mages are required because the pillars need to be cleared ASAP. They only attack when it is time to clear pillars and the rest of the time they are acting as healers.
One priest for makalki.
I would say a knight is optional because the turn order doesn't stay consistent enough for KD. But guardian blow is good for damage while debuffed.
That leaves 2 slots for regular physical classes. It helps if one of them has MoF to kill the ghost kids, as well as being classes that can hold a staff/wand to heal with madios in a pinch.

I put my lvl 45 Linaria with a wand into my bounty cyclops party and they are still killing it before the second action so she can't be that bad. She can't katino the chimeras reliably so now I am trying a bow.

Wow, actually got True Godefroi down first try with my new team. Some of the advice earlier in the thread is good. MAKALKI is fantastic. 3 casters with the MP to make sure everything is spammable made it smooth sailing.
I think the first turn he has is the most RNG there is, if you don't get confusion then you can really take off from there and just PORTO everyone.

I was, but I wasn't using 3 casters, only 2. I still had to deal with the status effects because I never had enough uptime on it.
You really notice the difference having another caster, you end up having almost perfect uptime on heals, MAKALKI, ABIT, whatever comes up.

Not the most interesting team, but it performs real well that's for sure. MC is priest.
A lot of my previous comps were using fighter MC which is much more redundant since chrono seems useless. Switching to caster seems like the best idea for MC. Otherwise the only other consistent in my party was using Asha/Lana/Chloe.
Yuzu and Marianne also died pretty soon into the fight to AoE so I barely even needed Yuzu, it just would have been done faster. Or I would have been DPSing too hard and it would have made things worse who knows. In any case you could run an extra caster instead of her for more safety and still do fine.
This is also after another battle in the church grounds so Chloe never died against Godefroi.

I tested the non-magic buff/debuff items on Linaria (drugs, demon horn, stench jar)
They cannot trigger encore
But thief is actually one "recycle items" passive away from making Linaria S-tier. Lana goes very fast if you stack porto+porto scroll on her. I haven't bothered to try porto+drugs yet because I can't be bothered to farm extras.
