Hikage (green hair) gets a decent amount of use for a 1.5 year old costume so I would considering getting at least +1 and maybe even to +4 if you aren't hurting for tickets. Yumi (white hair) is definitely a much lower priority since she's been basically completely outclassed by Sylvia/Morph/Darian by now. The real wildcard is the new girl who has a good chance to be a decent starter fire character for newbies since a lot of the other fire characters require quite a bit of investment to unlock their full power.

Sylvia needs is +5 Sword Queen and Bikini Agent, that's pretty much it. Admiral is filler, base is never used except in tower.

Sylvia's powerlevel comes from sword queen. You need that at +5 (which most newgluttis won't) to make her good. Bikini agent is good, but it does a fraction of the power without sword queen heavily invested in. Rafina does solid damage for this hunt as well, but that's 5/5/5 in all her costumes.

Honestly anon, I wouldn't. Sylvia is an old unit, bikini agent was the devs' final parting gift to her fans/oldgluttis who had all her other costumes maxed out. Darian, Morp have already powercrept her hard and Mamonir likely will too, she's a unit of the past with no sustainability in the future.

Too low, so there's a cooldown, once she's +3, there is no cooldown and you can spam her. Her other costume is a self chain buffer, which can vary in turn duration based on how many you have.

Check whatever costume bond you currently have on someone, it can make the difference to their damage output. Helena and Granadair offer better buffs, the higher the costume dupe. Helena is stupidly good, so you'll want to +5 her eventually. I still stand by what I say, Granadair is good, she's not amazing.

Newbwo here, so what exactly makes magic so bad later on? Is it just lower multipliers on skills? Lack of buffers? Being AoE focused instead of single target? Enemies having insane magic defense? Something else I don't even know about?

It's a mix of things. Liberta is simply too good (2 and soon 3 offensive buff costumes vs Helena's 1). Phys has more and superior chainers. But Magic DPS also didn't get scaled properly with balance patches.
Phys DPS like Lia and Rafina got fully reworked with giga buffs on top, meanwhile Eclipse/Dalvi get very minor boosts that do absolutely nothing for them and Loen was forgotten until the community voted her to the top of the "FIX HER" feedback list.

They are slowly fixing it, as you can see with Magic (Morp) being the best option for this FH, but we're not there yet.

There is a tier list in the resource kit and faq in the OP. If she is below S, like Bride Eclipse and Summer Dalvi don't spend tears on them or roll on their UREX I'd say.
Gear is a non-factor since you craft a few good pieces and swap them around.

Helena/Elpis/Beach Teresse/Track Levia/Bunny Loen or Beach Eclipse can one-shot all PvE. You can also take another DPS for pattern coverage like Venaka or a unit you like instead of Elpis. Buffers use their skills first.

Focus on +5 Helena first (50% crit). You can use the recommend draw tickets you get from the newbie pass for that, or pull on her banner which is rerunning now. If you pull on her banner you can use your newbie pass tickets to +4 Track Levia and +4 Diana instead.
For the rest gives your good gear to Eclipse or Loen first and Levia second. Scroll down at this site and bulk redeem all codes, +9 that Venom Touch III and give it to Loen or Eclipse.

Don't bother with Lecliss, Alec, Granhildr or any fixed dps. These people are pvp characters. Do invest in them if you love pvp

Don't bother with any Goblin Slayer character. All of them are shit

Bunny Loen/ Sacred fatass will solo most story stuff with decent buffers.

Diana, Helena, Levia, Zenith And Teresse should be your priority. These people are solid buffers. Granadair is but not as good as them. Refi is also a priority when you get her.

Red Riding Rou got buffed and is actually very good now.
