Alright everyone, enough time has passed. Honest opinions on the new model? Honestly...I'm a little disappointed. It seems more likely to ignore author's notes or instructions more often, and though they hyped up more variety on retries as a major feature, it seems MORE likely to get stuck repeating things I don't want it to do than before, not less, it just mixes up the wording, not the concepts.
It just seems incredibly strong willed, it wants to control everything. That can be good to a point, especially for the many people here who seem to use this as a substitute for books, but i only do text adventures, and for text adventures having it outright ignore me when I write what I want my character to do or say is a total dealbreaker.

Of course an autocomplete-esque model is going to have difficulty with standard instructions. Haven't had adverse experiences with AN or repetition happening; you'll have to provide your context for remedying those. I don't do text adventures, though. Overall I've found it pleasant for cowriting purposes.

it's definitely flawed in that I have to take over and write stuff myself sometimes even with an author's note telling it what should happen, but I want the AI to give me ideas and inspire what should happen next
it's also a little too sensitive to context and I find myself wrangling the pacing sometimes, but that's better than the alternative

What did the finetune actually do? Was it trained on more recent material? Trained on more material period? Or was it pure optimization?

It's a dud of a release for me, with my opinion fluctuating between very disappointed and uninterested. For my own usage, it's somewhere between a downgrade and a side grade due to it's advertisement as a cowriter instead of a storyteller. My writing style, prompts, and interest don't align with the purpose of this new model at all, and I've been less than impressed at running some of my favorite prompts through it from scratch.

It 100% moves too quickly between scenes, tends to ignore instructions and lorebook entries, and generally feels very lackluster. I think my biggest issue is that past characters within lorebook/memory entries that I've made from the ground up are now just bland and a watered down version of themselves. I haven't had that issue with any of the past models, even if I have improved and revised entries overtime. Hell Kayra -> Erato -> GLM was a smooth transition, so I'm surprised that everything of mine is falling flat now. And no, I've never done any of the retarded ATTP/Tagging that I've seen floating around either, I've always used normal prose for Memory/A/N/Lorebook with fine results. That being said, Xialong does have more variety to retries and the slop is mostly gone, but it's not worth having to fight with responses and wrangle it into something that's actually interesting/in line with how I want a story to progress.

So yeah, not a fan mang and I've already swapped back to GLM until there's either official updates to the model itself or the community releases custom scrips to adjust it's focus. If I wanted a cowriter then I'd just close the tab, open up Word, and start writing shit by myself. I'm here for a story that I can interact and interject when it seems fun, but don't have to handhold the damn thing to get from point A to B without it thinking that it's a good idea to go backwards and walk to point Z instead.
