gangsta until soul slayed edition

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Of course these are both rare indies (vines more common than golems) and even a sufficiently large 100 barb province could probably kill it before the route with the biggest risk there being hit by a profuse bleeding. I've lost more Myrmecoleons to that affliction bleeding them out after the battle ended than anything else.
Not saying don't do it, but be prepared for idk, a 10% chance shit goes side ways on a blind turn 0 expand with him.

LA has less barbs and the ever present advice of blind expanding into a farm for restricted indy types is still valuable. I'm sure some rare indies can still spawn in farms, but I don't think bloodhenge druids can. I've never lost an E3 (for the indirect nat prot buff) Myrmecoleon in LA during expansion, and he is one of my preferred Feminie expanders, the other being the Devi of Strength. My guess is taking the ole antlion as LA Abysia will suffer from a lack of ability to buff or forge regeneration in the midgame which is needed for it to fulfill SC duties by then.

Depends entirely on how fast the melee hoburgs rout. AP+Pierce reduces prot to 10 from 31 (31*.35 = 10.xx rounded down to 10). If they hold the line long enough to allow one near point blank volley (all hits will land on a size 9 in the tile) you're in trouble. If they get off a 2nd point blank it's almost a guaranteed death.
This is for larger forces though, 20 hoburg xbows aren't going to kill it before the army rout. And like said before, pray they don't cause a profuse bleeding.

That's part of what I did, I was wagering enough to get at least 30 on every duel or vendetta win. I also

Often the casting ai will use more gems/slaves to reduce fatigue when they calculate that fatigue will be over 100 by the end of the script; this is one reason that if you are tight on gems to keep casting scripts minimal, as non-gem spells after big gem spells can cause the ai to burn an extra gem on your big spell beforehand. So yes, its often necessary to add an extra gem or slave, especially for sabbaths as entering them is a 100 fatigue spell vs the 20 for communions. It also makes gem burning far more powerful if not using a gem persistence mod, because you often need to load casters with 3x the expected gem count to get 2 casts consistently in the round, and far too often even that's not enough.

I don't believe that blood acts differently, and have seen extra slave usage with B2+ casting sabbath master if they aren't immediately casting reinvigoration afterwards when there are significant spells in between. Also in drain 2 with moderate encumbrance due to old age, a B2 casting sabbath master with 1 blood slave can be near 70 fatigue, which is a big difference from a B2 in magic 2 without encumbrance. I think there is some threshold around 70-80 where mages will attempt to aggressively minimize fatigue by burning gems/slaves.

Otherwise I think the sloops cost reduction for curse of stones is problematic and should have been reduced to 2 at most. That's a case where it wasn't used more often because people were idiots than because it was prohibitively expensive, as it's the first battlefield wide spell that can swing large army battles. Later once antimagic is prevalent it drops off yes, but in many ways its a core driver of needing antimagic in the first place. Now an E1 can gem into summon earth power and burn gems to cast it, but it also doesn't generate as much fatigue allowing it to be easily spammed.

Thought as long as the spell didn't put them over 100 fatigue they wouldn't use an extra gem, but as soon as it hits 100 they'll use as many as they can to bring it under 100.
Seeing that they can use a gem if they want even if they think the fatigue is too high even if it doesn't actually put them at 100 changes a lot of things.

Sabbaths typically lack easy access to Power of the Spheres which is great and reduces slave fatigue by half if your slaves + masters are both the same unit. Horde of skellies is quite hard to run in volume via normal communion or sabbath, and typically want to be a turbo or pain transfer variant; the latter still has limitations and the former is not available for most nations.

Five masters can be relatively stable as the minimum slave fatigue per cast is 1 meanwhile unconscious slaves recover 5 a turn. Without PotS and using D1 masters + slaves you will need around 10 slaves: +3D boost means +2 overcast for 40 * 1/3 fatigue = 13, this needs to then be divided equally resulting in 1 after its rounded down. With D2 masters + slaves you will need 8 slaves: +3 D boost means +3 overcast for 40 * 1/4 fatigue = 10 which is divided by 9. Its been more than a year since I did my more exhaustive testing, but you should be able to verify when your slaves only get 1 fatigue a cast. That's the sweet spot, and then without reinvigoration or regen that's the limit of stability. Practically your masters have a 25% cast delay AND will themselves potentially fall asleep, so you can often squeeze in another mage.

This is one reason that soul vortex battery skellispam is so common.

I think you can use it after dropping a bunch of large off-path spells, however reinvigoration won't do anything about not burning out your sabbath/communion if things go long, even if it can buy a few rounds.

Many nations view their slaves as semi-consumable resources and need to plan logistics around that fact.

You should be able to win all your offensive battles mostly unscripted, at most one mage casting one battlefield wide requiring only items for boosters.
Relying on anything else is asking for trouble.
Defensive you can get away with a lot more. In fact if you're being sweaty enough to script you absolutely should bait a defensive fight, it gives you a lot more options.

Healing communions help, but those to tend to still have issues burning out when you get close to twilight. Still its a big difference between keeping everyone alive until round 40 compared to 15. You still permanently screw the slaves though, which might not matter so long as they don't get feebleminded or are muted for a PotS communion/sabbath. One issue is that there aren't a ton of fights that you win via 40 rounds of skellispam that you don't win with 15, but that isn't a trivial amount either especially against other communion/sabbaths.

Communions/Sabbaths with 2-3 masters tend to be stable just because the masters get enough fatigue to spend a decent bit of time asleep, so I wouldn't want to try a healing sabbath with 3 slaves + 1 master. However I would be interested in something like 9 slaves and 9 masters backed by 3-4 healing touch casters.

There is simply a maximum size of communions by master, and that doesn't scale with slave count as one would expect. I was toying around a bit as EA CTis to make small skellispam turbo communions using enlarge + coral sword + hydra skin armor on 2 lizard shaman slaves, but that was problematic without tons of enlarge to ensure coverage. Even then it would support at most 6 masters, but it was stable until twilight.

I am considering going C1 though, as that makes the freezing effects from water spells better (though ice elementals are way shittier than water elementals)
