Does deflecting feel more difficult on Hengdao than other weapons for you? If so, there's a reason for this.

When you deflect, you might have it built into your muscle memory to left click immediately afterward, so that you do a basic counter, followed by the heavy input or action counter.

You might think that left-clicking immediately after the deflect would simply buffer the input after the deflect animation, but for some indiscernible reason, it completely negates the deflect frames immediately after pressing left click.

This is notable because while deflect is often used as an animation cancel, the deflect animation itself still has to play, which begs the question: why does pressing left click before the animation ends cancel the deflect frames even though the animation itself isn't cancelled?

It's not blockable, it's parriable and any decent mo dao player will just defense break if you try.
It also IS true if cast at a time where the opponent is making contact with the initial knockback (such as when attacking) and since it has tenacity it will always have priority. You also can't serene breeze against it.
A single hit is enough to do 75% of your health.
The weapon has constant tenacity or can just hold block with a true combo if a defense break fails.
It also has a shield on zero downtime that can guarantee that even if you manage to catch mo dao through it's ceaseless blocking and tenacity, somehow, your combo will either get serene breezed or they will receive no damage thanks to their shield.
Ultimately you need to be able to catch a mo dao while they: don't have a shield, don't have tenacity, aren't blocking and don't have serene breeze.
The problem is they can easily always manage at least two if not all of these conditions to make them virtually invincible while also being a constant oneshot threat. Timing them out is also not a viable option since they can just use stormbreaker spear running attack and Q for very safe poke and potential combos.

As a tank Mo Dao enjoyer should I switch to the new weapon and armor sets? It seems like they'd work just as well with the tank weapons.

It's extremely ping dependent, in both ways. So even if you have a higher ping than them the timing gets knocked off course and fucks you up.
Also, for the special not being true into soaring, it hits an awful lot. It's surely not intended and the stagger should be nerfed.

the issue with hengdao is that they can spam their combo forever without ever being staggered out of it. you can't match it by comboing abilities as they will always catch you between abilities. hengdao forces you to be a parryfag and permanently has tempo in its favor.

After fighting them for a while, you'll start getting used to parrying and evading their moves. I'm nowhere near as good as my guildmates but I am learning just watching them fight in guild arena. Sometimes I join some fight club event from other guilds whenever they announce one in world chat. I feel like nameless is still more disgusting than stonesplit strength.
