LMG's actually exert ridiculous zone control (especially Demolitionist) for making your upper body essentially invulnerable. This makes them situational, but in the situations they are at their best there's nothing that comes even close to contending with them in the 15-75m range. Conquest is especially a complete rapist of a gun with the gold mod and Demo might as well be a precision rifle with a ridiculously large mag with the right setup. That mostly just leaves Retaliator as the cheap option, which is decent for it's massive magazine size, but suffers from needing an almost constant uptime on multiple targets to be worth it.

Why do Ghosts' Volt Throwers hit harder than player ones? And why can they sprint at max tac sprint speed and shoot sideways/backwards with perfect accuracy? These enemies usually don't do much of anything, but every now and again they just suddenly decide to move far faster than anything else can and melt healthbars while also being immune to staggers. I am about to solve shotgun balance right now. Make a PRIMARY AND SECONDARY WEAPON SLOT. NOT TWO PRIMARY SLOTS.

Make the WSTR a primary weapon and then make guns like the magnum, 3D printed glock and V11 PAUNCH secondaries. The real issue with WSTR is that you can have it in the pocket. By making it primary only, you'd force people to commit to it being their primary slot. Any game that has two primary weapon slots that you can put anything in usually just leads to the whole "shotty / snipers" debacle.

Maybe allow SMGs or maybe certain mods could make assault rifles or SMGs a "carbine" of sorts. So with the weapon mod, it would allow you to carry it as a secondary but lower the weapons range or something. The goal is to make it take some actual thought on what to run as your secondary etc. Because right now, WSTR secondary is probably the most used thing. Its the same in every game. Any game that lets you have 2 weapons, its always a ranged option and a close range option which makes sense. However, if shotguns are allowed, its always ranged option AND shotgun specifically.

This kind of just enforces having 4 slots in your backpack for a WSTR unless you add in some purposefully long as shit delay to swapping weapons in the inventory. On paper secondaries specifically only being SMGs/Handguns would be pretty okay balance wise, as then rolling a shotgun means you are a purely short range encounter specialist, but with accessories SMGs are extremely effective mid-range as well. If you run the mods that make the SMG function well in close quarters, it can be secondary or primary. Haven't seen them myself, but the keys you can get from the templates are absolutely worth more than 4k. Deluxe (blue) keys will generally bag you a few purple salvage and good equipment (the more expensive guns like Misriah/Circuit Breaker/Outland) and maybe a purple backpack, the Superior (purple) keys you get from the templates you'd buy with Shell IDs are just that but better, maybe a gold item.

MnK players often go into their backpack to use meds mid-fight - swapping weapons in the inventory is basically a free action and some people already do loadouts with 3 weapons to have both a sniper and shotgun without sacrificing midrange/bot killing. Without a serious penalty to swapping weapons from on-ground/in backpack a primary/secondary system would largely just function as a backpack tax.

It's pretty common to know the shape of an encounter before it starts by hearing shit coming - shotgun ambushes are real common, and bubbles provide breathing room to swap gear and turn a short range fight into a shotgun sausage party.
Adding additional hurdles to the designation of a primary vs secondary would probably be a bit of a negative in a UX perspective, which while obviously secondary to balance would still be a downside to mods determining if something is a primary/secondary - especially considering the visual language of which of these two guns has longer range is not exactly clear.

As for the in-game experience I'm around level 70 and it's still a toss up between total rape squads and people who don't quite know what they're doing. You'll never run into a completely retarded team but with some communication and teamwork most squads go down. But then there's almost always that ONE squad that will somehow instantly burn your purple shield and have you DBNO in seconds.

Change white sponsor kits so they cost 500 credits to use so people go on rook runs and actually get worthwhile shit to bring into proper games
Rebalance guns so there's actually reasons to use any of them beyond the 5 everyone currently uses (also making it so railguns actually have a fucking purpose)
Give some kind of teaser or heads up for future content (concept art for new runner, teaser for a new map, orion sending us a death threat, a cinematic, literally fucking anything that isn't just dropped a week before everything comes out)

>you can safely kill UESC in trios so you get extra exp that way
>you are on average pulling better loot if you play in trios which also helps with levelling
The game from the ground up is built for trios, so even if you play solo and try to make it work you get kneecapped hard. I'm 200 hours in and only just got to level 81 despite having all the priority contracts done and killing a player on average every run

Read that they also come from bioprinters and just go to places with bioprinters. The majority of the lens salvage I've gotten has not come from Quarantine, they've come from Overflow, north relay, or just MIDA faction upgrade rewards.

I mean, if I had to justify things big big picture like 5 years out view - the other Sony studios and Sony hardware are doing well, so Bungie burning money isn't necessarily that painful, just non-ideal. So Marathon is nonprofitable, but maintains a solid core userbase with decent profit per user via cosmetics/battle pass nonsense, maybe you can break even after expanding the core a bit over a few years. NOT cutting back on content or publicly laying people off is at least a public signal that Sony isn't just hovering a guillotine over their devs' heads and fair prices/content for Marathon is a good sign that the next project won't be mismanaged as fuck like Destiny 2 has been. Because despite how abrasive Marathon's design is, Bungie's been pretty responsive about issues and updates, on paper that might build back some trust in the studio.
Whatever's next, like long term next, probably hinges on Marathon continuing to be treated well, so it's a question of if Sony wants to just completely fuckin cut its losses, billions down the toilet, or let a slow bleed ride for a while in the hopes that the money tap can be turned back on in the next generation. I've gotta assume there's some expertise Sony is getting from Bungie on at least a technical level for running a live service game/platform even if their leadership had proven to be completely untrustworthy
