Let's talk about Koito.>STEPA short view back to the past. Little Koito was reading aloud a story about a tiny, timid dog called Bochi. Bochi always runs and follows its family because Bochi loves everyone. Little Koito practised again and again at home to prepare for the read aloud at school, but when she had to do it in class, she got stage-fright and was barely able to speak. The teacher eventually asked another student to continue. Koito still vividly remembers that experience to this day.Time has flown, now Koito is a highschooler, and her best friends Toru and Madoka have become idols. One day, while heading home, she overhears some idol fans excited about an upcoming fan meeting, which makes her wonder if her idol friends also have to do that. She thinks it must be nerve-wracking to sing and dance in front of people they have never met before.Later, while Koito is taken by the idol performance on a billboard screen, Madoka happens to be there and says hi. Koito points to the screen and asks Madoka if she is going to do the same, to which Madoka says only a handful of idols can achieve that. Koito says Madoka must be able to shine someday, just like the idol on TV, but Madoka replies “They are sparkling in your eyes, huh?” and leaves. Koito does think idols shine, but it is also scary to be one.Some days later, while hanging out with Toru, Koito asks her if being an idol is happy. Toru replies she can’t say. Koito then says if she had to sing and dance in front of people, she would feel scared, and asks if Toru ever feels the same. But Toru says she is an idol after all, and you can’t know everything without giving it a try. Koito then asks herself, if it is not scary, will it be fun then?

After all, she wants to shine with Toru, Madoka, and Hinana. So, after school, she instead pays a visit to the 283P office.The interview goes smoothly, but during the final closing words, the Producer reminds Koito that she is going to be very busy, and he can’t promise she will always work alongside her friends. But still, the Producer guarantees that Koito can also rely on him, and that she is not going to walk alone. In the end, Koito is always like this. Instead of finding something fun, she is faster to find something scary. Instead of thinking calmly and clearly, she is always overthinking and can’t make a decision. Instead of being the one to step ahead, she stays behind and follows. But that is okay, because if Koito can do it at her own pace, little Bochi is going to happily stay with everyone forever.

He first apologises for what he did, especially for not realising her situation and leaving her no choice but to lie. Then the Producer says he once doubted whether Koito was suitable to be an idol. But whenever Koito talks about her friends, she is so cheerful that it puts a smile on everyone around her. The trainer also praises Koito for working hard and bringing a positive energy to her teammates. The Producer concludes that Koito is suitable to be an idol.

However, she now realises that there are many people who share that same feeling, and if she works hard, maybe she can be an idol who makes everyone laugh. But the Producer corrects her on one thing: she is already an idol who cheers everyone up.

The Producer assures her that only a kind-hearted person would think like that, and says she should listen to the cheers from the fans on stage, because those cheers are the praise she has always wanted.Later, the Producer hands her some tickets for the LP live and asks Koito to give them to her family. Koito doesn’t know if her mum is coming, but her sister says she will, as she has already cleared her calendar. Koito is surprised her mum even knows the date, but her sister says of course she knows, she checks constantly. After the live, her sister tells her that while she was cheering along with Hinana’s mum, their mum just clenched her fists and looked worried. Koito is disappointed that her live didn’t make her mum happy, but the Producer says otherwise. Once the live is over, her mum comes and asks the Producer to take care of Koito. The Producer promises he will organise shows that will make Koito’s mum proud, and now, Koito finally feels her feet are on the ground.

She says that unlike her friends, she entered a private school. While her mum was happy about the result, Koito was not so happy as she couldn't make any friends in her class. In fact, she has never even bothered to open the album. The Producer quickly flips through the album and finds Koito right away, and Koito thanks the Producer for finding her.

Koito says that despite the fact she still can’t do a lot of things properly, she is glad she is an idol, and the Producer is happy with her answer.A few days later, both the Producer and Koito have something to share. Koito starts the ball rolling by saying she did well in her group study. She prepared well-written notes to share with her group, and her teammates appreciated her work, saying they also need to work hard so her effort isn't wasted. Meanwhile, the Producer is happy to report that Koito has passed her recent audition. Koito has finally balanced her schoolwork and her job, just as she promised her mum. Her feet were on the ground before, but now, it is time for her to take off.
>>562628567Some afterthoughts. I once believed that Koito’s story was very boring. While this is true for some of her P-SSR cards, I couldn’t be happier to say I was wrong. Her commu is actually quite enjoyable. Her story is not difficult to understand, but that is actually a good thing. After all, not everyone needs to be complex.Her STEP was a big surprise for me because I didn't expect it to be of such high quality. Generally, I sometimes dislike how STEP, despite being a prequel, can feel more like a sequel. That is, you often need prior knowledge of the idol to fully enjoy it. Madoka is the best example of this, whereas Koito is the total opposite. Her STEP successfully explains who she is fundamentally, with a very tasteful metaphor at both ends. The best thing about it is that it isn't just a prequel for Koito, it’s a prequel for Toru, Madoka, Hinana, and Noctchill as a whole. The story uses one central question to connect every element, allowing us to understand who these girls are through their answers. The structure and outcome of her STEP are simply lovely.WING, GRAD, and LP also do a fine job. I think the reason I didn’t like them at first was that I missed something fundamental: Koito doesn't just have Asian kid problems, she also has oldest sister syndrome. Once I realised that, everything just clicked. Also maybe I am sick, but I really like the way Koito sounds when she is clearly not doing well, such as in GRAD.However, there are three things I want to criticise. First, I wish the story could hold onto its mysteries a bit longer instead of just stating the answer immediately, like when Koito explains why she doesn’t want her efforts noticed in WING and GRAD. Second, how her mum actually reacts to her work is still mind-boggling to me. Last, some of the later cards feel repetitive. Essentially, they are all about Koito being scared of new things, only to find out they aren't as bad as she imagined. But this is a common problem, so whatever.

Here's my solution to fixing Sena and making her popular, Make her extremely P-love like Kotone. Problem solved. "B-But her cards are P-love" don't care. If I have to roll for a card just to get it then it's moot.
Saki step 3 made me rethink Oreimoman's routes. The fact that Ume's story through step 2 is literally just a better version of Saki's was baffling, but spending that much story doing absolutely nothing but build up to Saki's defeat made is what made Saki's defeat so impactful, which is what made it the best step 3.We would have just had a shit story if Ume's was not simply the same story but better. Ume's story served a specific purpose, which was tiding us over until Saki's got good. Meanwhile Saki's story was bad on purpose until step 3 in order to make it that much better in step 3.Sena's character has a purpose, and being popular is not it.

I think something interesting they could do with Sena is after she graduates she has her teeth totally fucking kicked in and has to come with terms of "Welcome to the real world, bitch!" which would give her both a gameplay/narrative reason to actually struggle.The problem is that within Hatsuboshi, her ideal route is literally just the status quo. She's already won everything, the absolute MOST you could get out of her route is just shutting down other idols who might be getting a little chippy and even then that's not very satisfying. People meme on "hurr GKP is useless????" for idols like Saki or Ume but SenaP is genuinely just an extremely marginal boost at best which doesn't feel as good compared to someone like Rinami or China where P is clearly extremely fucking important to their growth.
