it would be retarded to cheat for an all time performance instead of the bare minimum to win the candidates
he could be at +3 and still be leading, dominating like this attracts so much scrutiny it paradoxically makes it less likely he's cheating than pookesh last time

I often end up in these situations where I'm approaching late game and I haven't moved a single pawn except my center. How do I avoid this? How do I more actively play side pawns without giving up center tempo? This is 500 rating and I always play Italian game unless opponent does some stupid gambit.

It doesn’t look like you did anything wrong, this is a completely winning position. You don’t need to push pawns unless the position calls for it

Nah this is sound. If it’s a premove it saved your opponent precious time, but even if it’s not, he’s deflecting you from capturing the b2 pawn, which is now not capturable. Queen is forced to take Bxd8, allowing the critical Rb1! securing the b2 pawn longterm. Additionally, white’s bishop was blocking the knight from gaining the important g5 square, from which he could follow up with Qf3 and then Qxf7# next, which would not have been mate had your Queen not been baited into returning to d8. It’s actually a pretty deep move

Can someone tell me why Sindarov didn't put the knight into a fork to target the rook and the queen to force it to be sacrificed to move the pawn and to take the bishop for a draw? I had a bit to drink but I think it's a little obvious of a play here.

And everyone in the chess world, being the simps that they are, reward her instead of punishing her. In a sane world, she would be refused invites after this and shunned.

She got a selfie with someone but in doing so made that person have a bad opinion of her. That could only make sense to the modern fucked up roastie.

The knight is protecting the pawn on b3 and also blockading the pawn on d5. Your move would not only abandon those two important tasks, but it would also result in white having doubled pawns on the F file. Your move would fuck white up royally.

The best way to describe facing full power Stockfish is like you're reading a horror novel where the walls are closing in on you. You try this, you try that, nothing matters. Just go there and have fun playing chess fren. You'll get annihilated, but that's part of the process. You'll also realize pretty quickly that a lot of titled players are some of the nicest, most down to earth people you'll ever meet. It's usually spergs in the 1500-2000 FIDE range with something to prove who tend to be the biggest dickheads and think they're God's gift to chess, at least at my club. I do go to the biggest and most competitive club in a country with a rich chess culture though, so YMMV.

Gothamchess is reddit and therefore reddit worships him. Gotham repeatedly praises Magnus, so reddit is convinced Magnus is more important than he actually is. There are three chess players who have any significance outside the world of chess. Fischer led a soft power charge against the Soviet Union in the Cold War. Besides having the most news coverage ever for a chess event, it’s covered in many history courses. Judit Polgar is known for two reasons: for showing that women could be elite at chess, and for being an interesting data point in the nature/nurturing discussion. And Kasparov became a footnote in the history of AI when he lost to Deep Blue.

Magnus hasn’t done anything for non-chess players to know of him. He’s just the current best player of all time (a title which is transferred every 20-30 years).
>>
>>562753990
What’s the second removed one?
>>
So I’ve discovered playing on mobile is actually preferable. I’ve got an old Ipad I’m playing on for chess.com which is simply peak, the board fills the screen at just the right size and tapping and placing the pieces feels more like OTB. It’s too old to play on lichess though so I’m using my phone for that, which is less peak, but actually the lichess app is weirdly better than the actual site. Only exception is that computer analysis seems fucked, tried telling me an opponent with 64 centipawn loss and 3 blunders had 99% accuracy. But otherwise the app is actually superior.
>>
>>562755019
I assume that anon thinks king and queen switched is also taken out but it's not because castling rules make it different in fact they played it at grenke the other day
>>
>>562754970
I agree that Magnus will be forgotten quickly. He wrote no books, did nothing really historical, and was a weak WC in terms of WC matches. As soon as there’s a new best player in the world the recency bias that rated him so high will fade and he’ll be thought of as top 5ish and not super interesting.
>>
>>562755907
*as top 5ish all-time
>>
>>562756054
Nah that’s crazy, he’s #1 or #2 minimum
>>
>>562756871
This has been debunked. He was never as dominant as Fischer or Morphy, he didn’t reign very long like Lasker or Kasparov, he didn’t drive chess forward like Steinitz, he doesn’t have any legendary games like Andersen, he doesn’t have any essential books like Philidor, and he doesn’t have any famous openings like Botvinnik and Alekhine. He’s nothing but the current BOAT, and he won’t be that for long.
>>
>>562756871
I really don’t think so. He’s notable for his dominance of all time controls and the amount of total trophies he’s won across blitz, rapid and classical, but great players are remembered mainly as World Champions and as a WC his resumé isn’t great.
-two close matches with past prime Vishy
-close match with massive underdog Karjakin who actually took the lead at one point and induced an autistic Magnus melty. He pulled through
-draw against Fabi, the Rapid tiebreaks are a meme. The WC is decided in Classical. They drew
-Nepo self-distructing
>Ok I’ve won so much and so easily that now I’m bored of this and don’t want to bother anymore at age 30!
>*WC cycle left in dissaray, unworthy bums keep falling ass backwards into the throne because the best player of the generation isn’t there*

He’s not going to look as good in history as recency bias makes him look today. He was an unremarkable and almost unlikeable WC. He has a case for top 5 based on his rating, playing strength, cross-discipline dominance, etc. but that’s it. I think in the near future there will be a new top 5 all-time candidate combined with other less trendy but solid candidates like Botvinik that could make even top 5 difficult.
>>
>>562757525
Forgot to mention that one of the reasons he quit the WC is because he wanted to make it a cross-discipline event to cater more to his strengths. So he also would have ruined the WC if he had had his way, just because he wasn’t doing as well as he would have liked in pure Classical WCs. Sad!
>>
>>562754970
Vishy is known for being India's WCC as well, he is definitely up there. I didn't think of Polgar but she also is up there, maybe not in contention for the most known but she follows soon after.
>>
>>562758142
Didn’t know about this. I thought he just wanted more money
>>
>>562758572
Idk about money, but from what FIDE intentionally leaked that was his request. His cope was that “it’s too difficult to win in Classical anymore because it’s mostly just preparation, we should include blitz and rapid to get more decisive results!” Meanwhile, Sindarov:…

maybe by raw numbers because india is so populous but outside of india no one who isn't a chess enthusiast knows who he is, fischer magnus and kasparov are the only one non-chess players from the first world could have heard of depending on their age
>>
>>562759053
It’s hard to put him over Kasparov when Kasparov was basically just a better Fischer and reigned for a century. Fischer wouldn’t have been capable of a game like the Immortal Game, his most famous games like the “Game of the Century” were when he was sixteen against bums
>>
>>562755529
How is it different?
>>
The comparison I’ve always liked is that Fischer is Mozart and Kasparov is Beethoven. Mozart was the better pure composer and died young, Beethoven reached the higher peaks and had the better career, ultimately putting him over top.
>>
>>562759443
Yeah. I meant like, if 1/10 Indians know Vishy, and 1/100 people in the world are in the chess sphere, then like 1/80 people at the very least are aware of Vishy and already the chess-world is out-numbered. I agree that in the wider non-chess world those three are them.

>magnus: result when you search up "best chess player," highest rated player currently, in the news at times, best and dominant for a while

There's even a Finegold video where he goes through a Morphy game giving him so many praises by conveniently doesn't point out where Morphy blundered a piece in one move to a queen check like a 1200 (but his opponent didn't see it either--- too high level a concept at the time).
>>
We should make our own /chess/ site where Indians and catmixer aren't allowed.
>>
>>562764140
Lasker wasn't so far outclassed by Caps as you seem to think. You're probably only looking at their '21 match and disregarding their relative performances in tournaments leading up to it.
>>
>>562763090
Morphy is the most dominant player of all time and there isn’t a close second. He was about 400 points ahead of #2.
>>
>>562759864
Kasparov only reached the higher peak in play quality, and in that regard Magnus passed him. Kasparov’s problem is that he isn’t #1 in anything objectie. Subjectively he had the best career, but again, that’s subjective.

I’ll play on in some “lost” situations like blundering a Queen if I feel like my position is still playable and I genuinely doubt my opponent’s ability to convert. I can often win those games. I've seen poker players win more than that in a single tournament. Chess is pathetic.

What’s up with Karla not dropping in for the candidates. What a bitch. We literally worship her, the least she could do is swing by during big events.

>obviously winning endgame
>opponent stalls for 3 minutes and moves when he has exactly 30 seconds left
>backs his king into a corner for a stalemate but forgets that won't work because he has a pawn he can move
>checkmate him
>immediately get a rematch request
guess his flag

I think that game against Topalov is overrated, it was a blunder, Kasparov has better games than that one... and Magnus has never had an immortal game, and no, that one against a guy that let him do the mate when he was a kid doesn't count... really forgettable games.

Stockfish does not like both of you, but fortunately does not like your opponent slightly more.

>I think that game against Topalov is overrated, it was a blunder
Yeah and you every other brainlet who heard that and didn’t understand what it meant. It wasn’t a “blunder” as in “oh shit!” there was just a nifty king move that would have saved black and resulted in technical equality. It was also extremely unlikely to be found which is why Kasparov initially overlooked it and Topalov didn’t find it either.
You don’t judge games based on whether both sides played like absolute 100% Stockfish, it’s a game played between humans and is a war of individual understanding and temperament. That game is literally the 9th symphony of chess and you’re such a fart-sniffing pseud that you choose to pretend like you “don’t respect it”. No, you just don’t understand chess.
