【April 8】Today marks the 27th anniversary of the release of PS's "Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers"!
>>562897974I don't see any fanart of it
Remind me when the Devil Summoner gets fully translated or Giten.
>>562903897I mean, it's just the PSX port. Doesn't warrant that much fanfare
Gaea Rage
so how many maccas kaneko had to shill out to get the DMC's JPG?
>>562904448Giten has effectively been fully translated for more than a year now. The only parts that aren't are negotiation and some minor parts you could just translate quick. Even a JP youtuber who covers Giten made a JP to EN translation tutorial on how to do negotiation.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0t8k77z6UgThe main issue I'd say is that the EN translation introduces bugs that aren't there in the original game. Most progress-blockers are gone, but if you do get softlocked, there is a way to transfer saves between a non-buggy JP copy and the translated copy. Just swap saves, pass the bug and swap saves back. The tool is on the twitter of the translator, though I don't remember the method atm.The Windows version isn't translated, translator gave up on it. Good thing too since that one has crazy bugs that need tons of workarounds. (like how battle speed is tied to your CPU speed etc)People have completed the game with the translation already, so if you want to try it, go ahead anon. It's my personal favourite megaten, but I'd still rate it a solid 7/10. Best example of Suzuki's crazy ideas put into a video game, and if you love pre-nocturne megaten and it's more occult horror style it's the definitive edition of that stuff.
>>562913870He had to do a naked dogeza for Capcom's CEO, and was only allowed to use a low quality JPG.
I feel like Kaneko got dmc into his game purely to be petty towards Yamai.
I'd probably buy Villion:Code if it were translated to English and also 85% discount
I'd probably buy Soul Hackers 2 if it were translated to Portuguese and also 95% discount

>>562928558Yoko...
Anyone have a working link for the ENG translation of the second Megami Tensei novel? The link on the original 2010 blog is a megaupload link. Archive only has the first one.
>>562920638>The Windows version isn't translated, translator gave up on it. Good thing too since that one has crazy bugs that need tons of workarounds. (like how battle speed is tied to your CPU speed etc)wherever i downloaded it from it came with the patch and patcher so i could decide the battle speed myself. it wasn't too much trouble to fix it.
Still can't believe Tao actually won. Absolute madness.
I like how you can clearly tell its one guy samefagging to keep this general alive, when it was outright dead for several hours.
>>562932396Won what?

>>562941653this didn't even get a rushed ending, it just kinda stoppedueda even said she hoped to continue it one day in the afterword but it's been quite a while since then so i doubt that's happeningalso this manga totally gave nasu the inspiration for command spells
>>562928874i don’t like devil survivor at all but those overworld sprites kick asssomeone should use them for a vampire survivors clone
Why does r/megaten and most megaten fanbase have a lot of kids in it? It's to a point that I think there's a bigger adults to kids ratio in fucking pokemon of all things.
why does epstein ahh blud keep asking about kids bruh
>>562945041SMT has the reputation of being the edgy 2deep4u RPG serie since Nocturne. And it attract edgy kids who think themselves way smarter than they actually are as a consequence.
>>562945791this is the shit im talking about because you can't have discussion with dumbshit kids and r/megaten has a shit ton of them. >>562946083fuck shit's embarrassing. their discord is weird as fuck too, it's like the weaboos but they have no self awareness.
>>562920638I'll wait for the Marsh video.
Has anyone played SMT Remake VX? I get it's RPG maker stuff but anyone know how to full screen or your mappings for controls? The controls mapping doesn't always match with what button (for example, C is A on my controller and so on). Makes actual mapping kinda hard since I'm not even sure if the buttons are even in here. Anytime I go full screen with Alt + Enter, it gets cut off...
After much digging, I've reluctantly decided on this as being the most complete version of Debisa that I have, unless I can figure out how to work the plethora of tools I have, which are mostly for inserting items and such.https://www.mediafire.com/file/n35w17t6yvrjh4a/smt_ds615.iso/file-English title screen(credit to NakuFox)-Translated menus, spells may vary-Jibberish equipment/items but they're there-Translated story-Jibberish NPCs/negotiationsAgain, this is not meant to be the final be-all end-all, just hopefully a template until it gets finished, or maybe someone else takes up the torch. Have an enjoy.
>>562804624Made it through the power plant with minimal issues thanks to Argilla being a magical nuke. The gun doors were just exp pinatas and the King Naga horde wasted all of their turns trying and failing to mute Argilla while getting buried by landslides. Sera wakes up and suddenly gets all of Serph's stats and abilities, while also now having dialogue options again soft confirming he's actually dead. A-all good, we have our party synergy back so as long as Argilla doesn't have anything bad happen to her we should be okay! :)IT WAS NOT OKAY SHE GOT HUTTAH NECK SNAPPED BY A SPACE DEMON AND NOW MY MAGIC AND HEAL OUTPUTS ARE FUCKED TO SHIT AAAAAAHHHHHH
Just noticed Jenna Angel has a not too feminine body. Breasts on the smaller side, narrow hips, and wide shoulders. Maybe it's intentional because she's... "that".

>>562979413yeah, I'm just saying that's what usually causes trouble for me... Well again, make sure only one controller is plugged in, and that there's no other programs that could be controlling them... check the controllers themselves on like a tester website too
>>562979942yup it's fine, it's just the mappings in rpg maker god damn it japanese software..
>>562980868well, if it's just the mappings, then isn't there a way to remap it? I don't know about RPG maker in particular, but this exact same thing happens to me from time to time when a game kinda recognizes a dualshock, but not really - it's the exact same stuff you mentioned, the analog, square is confirm, it's the exact same... which is strange

When I see this image, I wonder what would have happened if Nocturne had been a success. Would Strange Journey look good in 3D with Press Turn?
>>562991427This is a pretty pointless inquiry.
i've always thought kaneko's art for raidou 2 looked a bit off, same with his current artbut sj and desu came out after raidou 2 and his art for those don't have the same problem for me so idk

>>562927913What is this even?
>>563008074kaneko's ai slop game
>>562993419It might just be an artistic error since later games don't look as bad. I feel like Kaneko today takes too many cues from Raidou 2's artstyle vs his better attempt in SJ.On another note, I know that Kaneko's post-Nocturne style is iconic, but it feels a little odd being used for games outside of like Nocturne or DDS. Like Raidou and such are iconic games for megaten, but it still looks kinda off to me in general. I kind of wish we got Kaneko for SMT IV and IVA, but with his 90s era style modernized. Doi gave it a good shot in SMT IV, but screwed it in IVA.I always liked the more occult horror post-apocalypse of the older games, and SMT IV's duology went hard on that, but Doi's artstyle especially in IVA pulled it back in a more Persona direction which sucks. In SMT V it veers even more away from the horror/occult roots of the series. Kaneko seems like he's eternally stuck in the megaten PS2 era as far as I can tell, which sucks. I wonder how SMT VI will look if we get a new artist outside of Doi.
>>562949535Made it back to the laboratory which turned into a scene straight out of a Junji Ito book, fought a now completely deranged Heat again, and had the pleasure of seeing one of the best plot twists I've seen in vidya. Extremely ballsy to have the main character actually be a psychopathic manipulator and monster all along, even if that was only in a past life. Like fuck, I was expecting the Embryon squad to be childishly idealized forms of their actual selves but the truth was way harsher than I expected. I also owe Heat an apology. His data self is still a shitter though.Getting Serph back was a pleasant surprise and I like how they're using player's likely experiences with past SMT games and RPGs in general to fuck with plot expectations. They genuinely got me with the Serph fake-out after they had transferred the stats over to Sera. Now that I have two nuclear weapon level physical unga bunga party members and no other real offensive options with Argilla's passing, I fully expect the game to start spamming phys resist/repel/absorb enemies non-stop because fuck me.

You guys think Devil Busters from MT II was a VR-like game, something with motion controls, or just a simple JRPG? I wonder why hardly anyone could beat the game, you only talk to one person who actually reaches Pazuzu. IIRC even the Dark Hero gets Hideto to play it because he's apparently good at it, might imply he's really good with that type of game.I doubt everyone in Kehin Shelter No.3 was that shit at regular videogames. Was it intentionally made hard to weed people out? Or was Pazuzu intentionally screwing everyone's gameplay waiting for those two to play it?
>>563041197I'll do it when the time comes around. What changes should we make? Remove the SMTVV and Raidou links since they've been out for a while with no updates?

When is Alice's game releasing?
>>563125146smt 1 came out over 20 years ago. and you call yourself an alicefag...
the only reason to lurk this place now is for alice posts.
>>563110807You should have realized the fanbase was all posers when the Touhou game was accepted with full arms with it being everything they claimed to "hate."
>>563110807Games went from being aimed at hardcore dungeon crawler nut cases to women with heavy emphasis on story telling. That's basically it honestly. Nothing wrong with it, just what happened.
>>563133263>heavy emphasis on story telling>SMT SMT tells less story than Sonic still
>>563133683Does it? Can you really look at 4 and 5, especially 5V, and tell me that it doesn't? Can you look at 4A and tell me it doesn't?
>>563132764The Touhou game is mostly a SMT I/Kyuuyaku II inspired game as far as I can tell. Touhou also hits a somewhat different niche in theming than Persona, so it's not that comparable in terms of feel. Sure there are those weirdoes who shun anything soft like Persona I guess. But the majority of the new fanbase prefers more soft stuff, it's like a persona-lite community these days. Just ask the average rando about Giten or something and they'll say it's the gore game and say it's too old for them to play. The whole thing about "hating" persona is LARP or just a joke to the average fan.Do nu-SMT fans actually hate old style megaten games? I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually "hate" the old blobber format of old megaten, the most I've seen is that it's just dated or not their preference. When it comes to the story of those games I haven't heard many complaints outside of just it being dated or lacking. If they really wanted to LARP as serious megaten fans I don't see why they would shun ADIA, it seems right up their alley.
>>563041748I always saw it as Devil Busters being the JRPG with the same graphics you play in and everyone in the shelter not wanting to play it when there’s more modern games to play with. Hideto and Dark Hero are just nerds who like old games, and they managed to play the one game that had Pazuzu sealed in it

Blobbers >>>> 3D
>looking up SH 3DS speedrun>it's just physical and magical mirror spam
>>563067084Yeah the games assume the shelters have better tech than what was available at the time. (MT II/SMT I/Giten's apocalypse is assumed to happen in 198X/199X) Not hard to think they use VR there.>>563136625This is also valid if we assume Kehin Shelter No.3 has VR or some other more advanced tech than 80s stuff. At the same time though, tons of people in the shelter say they played it and failed to beat it. One person also says they got to Pazuzu but they instantly beat them.>>563138471Give me an improved old-style megaten and I'll be hooked. The Touhou game had so much QoL and cool features added in to spice things up.I do feel like megaten should try other modes of gameplay though. I always felt an immersive sim-type megaten game would be sick. Like Deus Ex, except the conspiracy isn't MJ12 and the Illuminati, but instead demonic cults and gods forcing their will on humanity. Or even a classic XCOM-like game, but instead of aliens you deal with a demonic/supernatural invasion that ramps up over time.

We need another SMT game with Yasuda Suzuhito as character designer.
>>563148821I liked the new artstyle and I think it was done better in DSV2, but I think the peak was probably DSV1. If Atlus goes for another lower budget title, it wouldn't hurt to rehire them for DSV3. I don't think they're going to try anything low-budget or spinoff from Megaten after Soul Hackers 2 bombed though. It's a real shame, more game devs need to lower their expectations and cut down on these huge dev cycles. I wonder why so many always go for AAA huge budget/time titles rather than just accepting lower budgets/time and more numerous releases. Reviving the Devil Summoner series properly (not like SH2) wouldn't be the best idea though desu, since it's niche is partially covered by Persona and Mainline. It has a story/setting covered by modern Persona, and the gameplay is covered by mainline, at least in the eyes of the devs I guess. But man I really want a new contemporary setting DevSum-like game. Going far future for SH2 to freshen things up was cool but they executed it so badly.

I have noticed for sure there are disproportionately more lies about metaphor's performance than there are about any other game under the atlus label. That's probably just because of the amount of exposure it got/upsetting schizos from other fanbases it did though.
>>563151127i like metaphor but after the atlus marathon i've done since 6 months ago from P5R, P4G, Metaphor, P3R, SMT3, SMT5VV, SMT4, SH2 and SMT4A, it's definitely one of the more forgettable one'it insists upon itself' type of game
>>563151259bad deflection desu
>>563151342show me a part where I said metaphor failed its expectation, i just said it just lacked something unique
>>563149871This is mostly valid for Persona desu. If we're talking modern megaten then I suppose you could say SMT V counts for waifuism. People went crazy with the fanart for the MC and Aogami + the main girls even if there wasn't any real romance mechanics.I think a better idea of what I'm talking about and what you're talking about would be the 3DS era. Awakening sold around 2.4 mil, Fates around 3 mil. Echoes on the other hand was supposed to be a low-budget short timeframe title. It still sold 1 million copies. I'd call that a success IMO, and it's what I'm talking about, modest work, modest expectations. No putting all your eggs in one basket. If for example they went hard on Echoes and it bombed, the series would've been worse off. I would agree on waifuism for FE though, it started to carry it from Awakening, not introducing normal supports in Echoes curbed it from being more than a modest success. When it comes to SMT on the 3DS, that's where it gets interesting. SMT IV sold more than 600k copies, it's an example of a major title that has those large budgets and dev time. It was a decent success, it didn't really need romance or waifus. When we go to IVA though, things are different. IVA is a more persona-like story and character-focused. It didn't have romance exactly, but it seemed like ATLUS was pushing characters at you that they expected you to come to like, similar to Persona. But the game didn't do as well as SMT IV, adding elements of waifu stuff didn't help it.On the other hand, IVA was going to be a lower budget title given how it's built on the bones of IV. Less time and money, no developing a new engine, tech, art etc. When you think of it that way, it's more of a success despite it's lower sales. Frankly we don't need more SMT VVs, we need more SMT IVAs. Just don't make the games as mid as IVA was though.
>>563151482what you actually did was start babbling because you didn't think someone was going to point out the dude that tweeted about sales was lying in this thread kek
>>563151706it's just my 2 cents jesus
>>563149626to be fair to this, Sonic Racing did actually flop and Sega said so, but yeah this was clickbait from someone that wanted views because he said something anti-Metaphor
>>563151865idk why you'd want to be fair to some middle easterner's bait desu it was made to be hostile to people in the first place
>>563151127From some quick research, it sold like 2 mil copies. IIRC it also had a lower budget than P5 or P3R, so Metaphor is honestly another example of my idea of modest games. Honestly any ATLUS title that moves more than a million copies is a decent success. Which puts you in the category of SMT V + VV, P3R etc. The issue is that Sega's expectations are overinflated, and this seems like an issue for the entire industry. Does everyone seriously think every game is going to hit as hard as their best game every time? ATLUS likely isn't going to release another huge success like Persona 5 again, unless they hit the right spot with Persona 6 or something. A remake like P3R/4R, a new but similar IP like Metaphor or a spinoff like SH2 isn't usually lightning in a bottle. Sega and the rest of the industry needs to get their head out of their asses.
>>563152186>The issue is that Sega's expectations are overinflatedBased on what exactly? Based on Soul Hackers 2 and the recent Sonic which actually sold poorly?
>>563152409I'm not familiar with Sonic Racing, was mostly talking about SH2 and Metaphor here.
>>563148219>a pc portOr a Switch port. They already ported the first three Etrian Odyssey games, showing a two-screen game can in fact work on just one screen if you know what you're doing, and I refuse to believe Switch is not strong enough to run something that was originally made for 3DS.
>>563152809I get the sense you're trying to downplay metaphor because you don't like it but literally the only games in Atlus' entire library that have done better are the two P5s and over way longer term sales. I've never gotten the sense that Sega's expectations are too high for anything, especially using Metaphor as a point of reference because they've never said anything about it other than that it had strong sales and that Atlus is one of their best acquisitions ever thanks to games like it. We also have in writing that the sales on PC far exceeded what they were expecting though that came from Atlus. SH2 didn't sell even remotely as well, less than 25% of that, and it was a new game with a ton of entirely new assets which makes it a lot more expensive than something like a P5R, Raidou HD or port of Nocturne. Saying that wasn't a commercial success isn't some outlandish thing like Square Enix saying a Tomb Raider with 10 million sales flopped, not even close. Even when SH2 came out and Sega admitted it didn't meet their expectations they didn't condemn it like Square Enix often did with their Eidos output, their approach was trying to support it with post-launch updates which they did a little bit of. They did the same thing with Sonic Racing just this past month. Some of the shit they actually do to try and boost sales like the Yakuza definitive release mess doesn't work out at all but that's not really the same thing.
>>563148219because all their teams are busy and for whatever reason they refuse to outsource things like that
>>563153367Oh no, I actually thought metaphor was a pretty good game. I was basing my "metaphor proves sega has overinflated expectations" off of that twitter post I read in >>563149626. I think I got baited lmao. I might also just be pissed at other companies and projecting to be fair. I think my point is that we need fewer games like SH2 in general, fewer full games with tons of new assets and long dev cycles etc. It was respectable when they released new updates, but honestly the game was borked from the start due to it's poor design. I'd rather they keep it simple and get it right the first time, and not stake tons of cash on projects like it. If that makes any sense lol, I'm pretty tired at the moment so I'm probably just rambling.
>>563145405That's fucking accurate and just reading your post made me tired...I liked SJ but I'm not sure if I would enjoy it again if I were to play it today.
>>563154119What Sega actually talked about recently is covered by this article, since 2020 they've talked often about trying to boost sales by improving critical review scores to what they consider to be high (in the 80s). This was a big thing when they were marketing Sonic Frontiers, and while it scored well under what they wanted Sonic Frontiers sold very well anyway. Since then, Sega was the best reviewed publisher multiple years in a row, and they're at the point where they're now acknowledging that review scores don't seem to be having much of an impact on what does well and what doesn't. Especially in light of the poor performance of the new Sonic spinoff which was their best rated Sonic game since Mania. This is like the 10th time Sega said they want to change their marketing practices in the last year also. https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sega-says-strong-reviews-for-its-recent-games-isnt-yet-translating-to-better-sales/For Atlus I don't think the issue is sinking too much money into a project, it's more likely the opposite both in dev and in marketing, and you can use Metaphor as an example of this too. In the interview collection from during Metaphor's development Hashino bitched constantly about the budget constraints they were under (which was from 2019-2024). Then when it came time to market everything went into the evergreen Persona marketing for the P3 remake, didn't bother translating any of the daily videos, did a single content creator event in the US, had no plans for any of the metaphor events to come west. What actually counted in the end was putting out a demo that got in front of all the right people. And this was for something they had what they considered high expectations for from the outset, not some side project to pad out a barren pipeline like Raidou HD.
>>563155952After reading about the Sonic situation, I read a big issue with it was how it was too highly priced, especially it's bad regional pricing. Kind of goes back to my deal with modest lower cost games. I wonder how things would go if we got cheaper and more numerous spin-offs for megaten in the future. But yeah now that you put it that way, Sega's issue is less what I said and more just that they suck at marketing things other than Persona. I still stand by my belief in lower cost games though, but it's more of a problem with the entire industry tbf.I might've just confused myself on this one.
>>563155952Baffles me the sheer amount of exposure p3 reload got from everything + the tiktok marvel rivals trend too and how little of that turned into game sales. It took them a whole year to sell as many copies as metaphor did right?
Sanic is such a mismanaged franchise, even in their more stable era now, most of the discussion is less about the game and more about the shipping (the thing sega explicitly forbids because they want sanic to be this embodiment of freedom that doesn't need to be tied down by any woman).I'd rather have a much slower discussion like this general over that.
>>563155952>they're at the point where they're now acknowledging that review scores don't seem to be having much of an impact on what does well and what doesn'tAbsolutely shocking that game companies are only now realizing what gamers already knew for the last 10 years, and even then, it's only some companies.
>>563158142Interest is cheap, leaving a like cost nothing.Actually buying a game require actual money and even if you pirate it, you still need the time to actually play it and this is important if you want to sell DLC (see Tales of Arise). However, having marketing is still better than not having any.
>>563159774For Sega it's a symptom of their games having dogshit scores for so long and comparing themselves to their competitors. When you're a bunch of execs that exist inside that framework for 20+ years and you basically stumble your way into 2 of the highest rated RPGs of all time one of which is an evergreen seller your perspective is bound to be warped. The guy currently in charge of all single player game output at Sega who they previously appointed CEO of Atlus after the buyout had been at Sega for a long ass time already. They still have people there who think that Sonic 06 tanked because of the adventure format being unpopular instead of there being any accountability for sending half the dev team off to pick daisies midway through development, but personally I think that's because the people who made those decisions way back then were very high up in the company so the story got told the way they wanted.
>>563119525>mass quoting a free speech fighter4chan is a website for non normalfags and you should pick bones else where lmao
>>563160431>They still have people there who think that Sonic 06 tanked because of the adventure format being unpopular instead of there being any accountability for sending half the dev team off to pick daisies midway through developmentCringe if true.
