Copying the masters is a way to learn! People have done it for a very, very long time. My primary obsession was cartoons but I recognize now that realism is really important for making good cartoons. Drawing from life is very helpful, especially when you have to do it quickly. There are websites where you can set timers and draw figures that continuously switch. Setting down blocks and mapping figures is useful for some things but freehanding is a good skill to have. Look at the fluidity and motion of life and try and give your pen that same energy. I also had to redraw rudy in that comic 23984723 times it's always gonna be a process
