That has problems of its own because you'll have corporate censors and all that bullshit, but at the least it's probably harder to influence Bethesda with a 14-man discord clique. I feel like Bethesda tricked us with the new "elite" follower. She only has three skills, with the highest being rank 2. All of the actual elite followers have four skills with much higher ranks. I also haven't found her saying a single bit of dialogue during quests, she also doesn't appear to have a like/dislike system either.

I wasn't really looking forward to Bethesda making her a full fledged companion, she seemed boring, but another companion meant meaningful content so I was on board (if only just), yet she doesn't have crap.

What about the Terran killbot? The Glup Shitto R2D2 is only good for juicing your ship stats. He can't take part in a lot of different combat situations like Vasco, but worse.

It's kinda clunky. Rolls dice in the background to determine success, green easy yellow normal red hard difficulty, you need to fill all the pips at the bottom and you have a finite number of moves to do it in but if you succeed and it's your last move you can keep going. General rule of thumb if you've been raising the skill is try to get a red or a yellow early on while you have some grace for failure, then coast by on greens/yellows to wrap it up. You will sometimes get extra options based on other skills during the dialog minigame that can instantly win it too

Think of it like this. Bethesda first started basic companions in Skyrim, but they were very basic. This largely changed with Serana who is basically a proto-companion ala Fallout 4 style. Fallout 4 companions were generally fully fleshed out followers with banter, their own quests, interjections, and likes and dislikes, and romances. This philosophy followed into Starfield too, but the Fallout 4 style companions/followers were exclusively relegated to Constellation (but written way worse and one note compared to anything in Fallout 4) and the rest of the Starfield companions were made in the more traditional Skyrim way. There is, almost certainly, never going to be another full companion added to Starfield. They want to avoid the issue that Fallout 4 had where companions(Sans Nick Valentine in Far Harbor) had no VA for the stuff in the DLC since it would've cut too much into the VA budget allotment to get all like 12 of Fo4's companions back for the DLC, and have them do full VA for all the quests like they did in the base game. Likewise the DLC companions like Old Longellow, and Porter Gage, didn't have VA for all the base game stuff for the same reason.

Having there only be 4 major companions, and the rest just "elite crew" that don't need full VA makes having more companions possible, while keeping tier VA levels consistent across all content.
