For a nintendo-execution-squad type of project being handled out of US, in a batch of 30 units, the price is hardly a factor. If it takes off in any way surely there will be chink dongles for a tenner.
I like the idea of a PC Portal type device in theory, without dealing with moonlight streaming.

Which means to run 3DS games, or 3DS emulator, do you guys recommend for a Switch?
I lost my 3DS but I saw some people talking about using it on Switch putting the screen vertically. Mine got homebrew and all already so I was thinking I could make something of this situation.

I heard it's relatively easy to hack or sofmod a Wii U to play Wii games. In that case would it run with the old Remotes I have of my fried Wii and all? Like if I ran something like Wii Sports or Trauma Center I'd be able to play just like a Wii game back them moving my hand?
>>
>>563328365
It's called a Wii, right?
>>
>>563329092
I have been searching about it to dubious results because of Virtual Console variants of the Wii for the Wii U so I have no idea how any of that worked then. Hell, looks at us now: Switch needed a version of Skyward Sword itself instead of that.
So if the Wii U variant doesn't have the motion compatibility it kind of kills the purpose and I would jsut buy a Wii instead.
>>
>>563329773
The switch does not have a wii u (or wii) inside. The wii u does have a wii inside.
>>
>>563330086
AWESOME
I was worried because when my Wii stopped working I searched and searched and nobody in my town even bothers repairing it. So I'm basically fated to buy a new one. If I have to buy one anew, thought I might as well go for the Wii U.
>>
>>563330235
Try not to get to confused because there are hacks for the Wii U, but then the vWii mode can also be hacked to effectively be it's own hacked console too.

Shouldn't really matter if the Rentry updater sorts it out.

Don't really get why everyone is pissy about it though. Even the sys-patch dev previously said manually updating sigpatches is the safe way to do it.

Garbage installers just side load game updates rather than overwrite them.
The Switch eventually clears old updates when you give it an excuse to.

i'm guessing it's for easier downgrading to an earlier game version? Cause it feels additional work to make it so the installer doesn't just overwrite everything

yeah haku33 (or something like it, if they made another one in the mean time) is the only other way

Tried playing Snake Eater 3D, and was unpleasantly surprised that only the Subsistence camera is available and makes the game play exactly like the equally terrible Chaos Theory 3DS remake. I saw a video that suggests the original locked camera is still in the game through modification and while that isn’t exactly my preference, in the absence of being able to rebind the camera to the stick and movement to the face buttons it has become a necessity. Or is this too much work and I should just get a chinkheld or Vita if I want portable MGS3?

the only way to backup saves from sysnand is by running cfw to open jksv. As usual this has its risks, as you're doing stuff on the og mode so you must be careful to not be flagged for a ban

I having trouble with my hacked switch

>I connect my switch to the usb
>Turn it off
>Slide the jig
>Test RCM by pressing volumen + and power
>Stays off as it should
>Tegra says there's no RCM
>It only detects it as RCM if I physically hold the volumen and power buttons, and it doesn't last enough to launch emuMMC
I tried a different usb cable
>>
>>563890912
what the other anon said, but if you're gonna transfer from legit to hacked then I'd say you don't really need to worry, as nintendo has no way of seeing you backing up saves with homebrews, and again the main point is that you're gonna then restore that save on the emunand, which already isn't connected to the internet anyway. Doing the opposite would've been a greater risk, though it's generally safe for offline games, it's usually to be avoided for games with online functionalities, while for proper online games it's a guaranteed ban.
>>
>>563896303

that's really not the game i would identify as a vita game. Like for me the vita is just a portable vanillaware machine, and that's simply cause vanillaware doesn't believe in pc ports for some reason

Vanillaware? This is the first time I've truly felt American in a long time because wtf is that? Looked it up and it's all Jap shit (who would've thunk). I'll pass. Does disliking anime come with age? Or maybe it's their cringe perversion of the same tropes
>>
>>563951475
Thank you! Holy fuck, do Americans not make video games? The pic is goated but I've grown out of most of these types of games. I've either played one, so played them all, or the characters are too annoying. Time to lower my standards
>>
>>563954634
>>563954817
you're looking at the wrong things, you play videogames for the game they are, not anime tropes or anyway plot reasons
basically just try them out and see if you like the gameplay, if not try another one. Sometimes the plot is nice too, but ultimately it really doesn't matter. I'd say it ultimately doesn't matter on any media, even books or movies the "plot" isn't as important as their gameplay equivalent, which is how the story is told and sometimes how the characters interact. The "plot" is always gonna be "the good guys win and the bad guys lose" anyway

Given that that port is soldered to the motherboard your best recourse might just be build a few different-looking ones and picking out the ones that work. Also check that vita port isn't already damaged/wonky, I guess.
For the record, the old original cable I have is very loose and wobbly and feels like it's only retained by the springy tabs, my aftermarket clones of original cable (with the funny USB-A end) have basically zero clearance and pop in with some friction, but they still don't feel like they are being forced in.

I’ve been curious but why is Sony’s stuff so much harder to homebrew compared to Nintendo’s?
>>
>>564057769
PSP, Vita and PS3 are infamously easy to homebrew. And PS4 is generally easy if you're on the right firmware.

Meanwhile, 95% of Switch 1's are completely unhackable?
>>
>>564057769
it's not, it's both just happenstance (ie, switch got a hardware vulnerability cause the tards at nvidia left it in and fully documented) and people generally caring more about hacking nintendo shit than sony or microsoft (microsoft especially just being something that is hacked for hacking’ sake, nobody is going out of their way to buy an xbox when some hack for them is released)
to make a comparison, it's like thinking your house is safer than the bank cause people successful robbed the bank while no one ever robbed your house

I got a tax refund and I'm thinking of getting either a PSVita 2000 or a N3DS, not both. Which is a better buy now? I plan to buy the other one next year. I'm just worried that prices might double next year or something.
I'm leaning more towards the Vita since I prefer playing RPG games.
>>
>>564209231
nothing but prices changed, the vita has nifty stuff but the 3DS is the overall better choice
that said, i'd say to get a vita cause the 3DS has been figured out a lot more and, from what i tried, has much better emulators. Plus 3DS is also the one whose prices shot up much higher, so it's another reason to avoid buying one
>>
>>564210029
Alright, thanks. I bought a Vita.
Kinda expensive since the shipping cost fucked me over. Was around $270USD.
Guess I'll see what the prices are like in a couple of months for the N3DS and see if I want to buy one or just continue emulating it.
>>
>>564210728
i didn't think you were gunning for one right this instant, especially since that's wayyy too much for a vita (which i imagine is used to boot, and not even the oled model)
keep in mind that you need to buy a sd2vita adapter (that's the actual name), and you can get one off aliexpress for cheap, don't go spending 5 or 10 bucks on amazon on that at least
>>
>>564210916
I already have the adapter. A friend gave me one which was why I wanted to get a Vita.
And yeah, it was expensive. I could have gotten one for $200USD but I opted to get a color that I like and specifically says no yellowing on screen. The cheaper ones has some screen damage which I don't want to get. Also shipping is like an extra $50USD.
>>
As nice as the Vita is, you can get it's games on pretty much all consoles now.
>>
>>564211713
that's kinda the point, since it got hacked almost 10 years ago now you only get once cause it's a nice little system that is further enhanced with homebrews, not because of its "exclusive" games
though to this day I'm pretty sure a N3DS is still the better option for emulation and stuff overall, and i mean the same reasoning goes for that one too given they ported a good deal of 3DS games over as well
>>
only reason i bough a vita last year was because i wanted to finish my sony console collection. i don't think i'll ever buy a pstv unless i find one for really cheap. same with a ps5, i wont get one because it has no games. i plan on collecting the nintendo consoles next maybe. i only have their handhelds; gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, ds, n3ds and switch if you consider that as a handheld. i really want the wii u and i'll maybe get that next.

I then tried adding priiloader and enabled the Region Free Everything setting. The disc is now recognized in the disc channel but when I launch it I get the same result expect the screen is now black instead of green.
I could just download the game of course, but what's happening here?

>He's claiming docked clock speeds are within safe limits but they aren't when on battery, right?
Nintendo actually made the Switch underclocked compared to what the Tegra chip can actually do, even when docked, iirc.
The only thing that those speeds on handheld might be "bad" for is the battery since
>Switch consumes docked-power while on handheld mode
>Which means that the battery drains faster
>Which means that you'll be charging it more often
>Which means that it'll degrade faster since you're going through the charge cycles more quickly
All the other components can handle the docked speeds fine even in handheld mode, so they won't really die because of that.
That said, you can also assume picrel since I'm just going by logic and stuff that other anons have said in these threads, not actual in-depth knowledge of how the Switch components work.

Nintendo wants more people to move from the Switch 1 to the Switch 2. That way they can EoL the S1 to stop spending money on keeping it supported, with less backlash.
Also because if a game is a S2 exclusive, it can't be pirated (yet) (if ever).

>That way they can EoL the S1 to stop spending money on keeping it supported, with less backlash.
you say that as if they're supposed, or even expected, to put games on switch 1 forever. Their new system is out, it's only natural that they eventually fully focus on it and leave the old system behind, that's just what happens with consoles
>>
>>564327538
it'll be shit regardless
>>
>>564338667
The install base is just so high right now though. The decisions they are currently making obviously support the numbers they are seeing internally. They care about piracy but they aren't going to obsess about it so much they slaughter the goose laying the golden eggs. But at some point there needs to be a big hit game that's Switch 2 exclusive that makes people want to go out and buy one. That will kick off multiple cycles of the same thing.
>>
>>564287442
So this was actually bad advice. It looked like things were installing but they actually weren't. I ended up finding which one of these paid shops was actually popular and I already had shitloads of passwords for it sitting on my hard drive from infostealer logs. I got my updates and DLC without paying anything.
>>
>>564327538
Pretty sure the game could run on Switch 1 just fine but it's about time Nintendo start abandoning the platform to focus on tthe Switch 2. Rhythm Heaven is very likely their last first party game to be released for the Switch 1.

not just that, there's the matter of "yeah it runs on switch 1 but not that great, but there's emulators so instead of buying a switch 2 for it people are just gonna emulate it"
like i mean you can very easily have the switch 2 version (and even more, if your shit can handle it) of zelda or xenoblade by emulating them, and there's also the fact that these last few games also releasing on switch 1 are tomodachi life and rhythm heaven, aka stuff where graphics don't matter and good performance is a given
>>
I'm so sad switch 2 is an actually secure platform :( it's so hard to go back to switch 1 now with it's really ugly 720p home menu and inability to run half it's games decently.
The day switch 2 gets a full cfw will be glorious, I hope it's within the next couple years
>>
>>564376579
Well you need to understand that buyfags have a different culture than graphics obsessed autists. If the buyfags didn't exist there would be nothing for those people to emulate. People who want to run pirated shit on their gaymen PC don't have that much overlap and the best Nintendo could hope for is to entice a few stragglers.
>>
>>564377210
oh i agree, but suits don't. As in, they legit believe every demographic should just give them money and buy whatever they put out, as such someone emulating or pirating the game cause they can but would've otherwise not bought the game anyway is a lost sale to them

I obviously don't expect that, I have enough consoles to know they move on eventually.
But when during the first months of the S2 releasing they have people like Doug Bowser going "We understand if people don't want / can't buy the Switch 2, and that's why we have the Switch 1 as a cheaper option" (don't even get me started on the price increase that followed kek), and then not even a year later they're already shitcanning the supposed "budget version", yeah, I'm gonna give them shit. if you get caught cheating you will get account banned. if you don't cheat you will probably never get banned, even if you blatantly pirate games and use homebrew. i suggest signing out of PSN when you use homebrew apps though.

i agree, something like that should exist, would make things nicer for piracy.
>>

You might as well delete whatever you have and download them to your PC that way. That's the conclusion I reached when my Vita was still working. I wanted to use scene releases, cartridge dumps, etc. But everything is just more proper with nopaystation. You get the games and the DLC straight from Sony's CDN. Can't be easier. Can't be better. No fucked up maidumps. Don't waste your time doing it another way until they shut down the CDN and you're forced to.
>>
>>564620692
>you mean you want to point the vita to your pc?
Yes. I can connect the Vita to my PC already. I just need to know what I need to do with the PKG files and work.bin file that I have.
I figured out you need to use pkg2zip on the PKG file, then it makes a new folder.
After that I'm kinda stuck. Where do I put this new folder? Where do I put the work.bin file?
>>
>>564620780
I don't mind doing it the hard way. I have NPS on my PC, and I download the games there to my PC, along with Myrient. The reason why I prefer to do it this way is because if Sony ever removes the PSVita storefront then I at least know how to add games that are PKG format.
I want to have the original files on my PC because I've ran into issues where the original place I downloaded it from gets taken down.

I think 9.0.0 is better now just because a lot more people are on it. It means more people are making patches for games that needs a higher firmware to run so it can run on 9.0.0.

Having issues with 9.00 PS4 having a Resolve Host Error whenever launching the browser whether offline or connected to the internet. I usually load the browser exploit offline via cache but after it failed and I rebooted I kept getting a "not connected to the internet" even though I never had this issue before. I cleared cookies and data and tried connecting to the exploit page and got the same error. When testing connection it does connect to my router though. I haven't restarted the router yet. Any possible fix?

I'm considering updating to 11.00 and using the Pi-Pwn method so I'm wondering how well that works too.

Hey vitards
Im looking for some assistance.
My modded vita has the
>To use this memory card
bug.
Some people suggested to switch to storagemgr. from yamt
I did by following this guide
https://vita.hacks.guide/storagemgr.html
Now my vita only sees the 1 gig of internal storage only..
I have just kinda put the vita away after that for a while, but id like to start using it once again.
any tips on dealing with the fuckin memory card issue.

Also small rant, why tf wasnt this issue solved by now(then?)
All main vita modding guides tell people to install yamt yet this issue is yamt specific, and its pain in the ass to find solutions to this issue in modding communities.

So XIV on Switch 2 doesn't require NSO which implies it could be played on a modded console like Fortnite if the Switch 2 ever becomes hackable but you'd still need to pay for its subscription instead. Did I get that right?
>>
>>564619825
1. Download pkg2zip from lusid1. It's a 2024 version and not the 2017 version.
2. Drag the PKG file on the pkg2zip.exe. It will create a zip folder.
3. Extract the newly created zip file.
4. Add the proper work.bin file at sce_sys\package.
5. Connect the Vita to the PC. Make sure you have VitaShell homebrew installed and it's properly configured.
6. On your PC make sure that you can see hidden items AND disable the 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'. This way you can see where to paste the game files.
7. Copy the extracted game file to the Vita. If the home folder is named app then copy it in the home Vita folder. If it's PCSExxxx or something similar copy it to the app folder.
8. Once done go to your Vita and press triangle on the VitaShell, it will bring up some menus. Select the Restart LiveArea so the game you just copied will show up on the home page. Some say you can reboot the Vita and it will show up but I haven't personally tried it.
9. You're done and ready to play. However go back to your PC and make sure you enable 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)' again. Or leave it off if you like living on the edge.

The non user replaceable battery is a big issue but that didn't put people off from the Vita.

It's okay. The hardware isn't really exceptional in any way, the easily hackable units are pushing 9 years, native game library, while good, has a lot of overlap with PC for which you have loads of options in the same formfactor. I feel if switches came with good oled screens as standard rather than one premium version, they'd be much more attractive as a laid-back cfw machine.

Yes but we aren't in 2017 anymore sad news. My point is that consoles have a better chance of being homebrew darlings if they have some charm point. This is why good quality screen is an easy win, the device instantly goes from "too underpowered to run anything serious" to "every VN, indie, and emulated game looks excellent".
I haven't kept up with the scene much, but as of couple years back the more adventurous homebrew stuff for Switch involved just installing android on it, at which point you may technically have a very flexible device on your hands, but that device is a very bad android tablet.

>>564719807

I think that Epic uses their own servers instead of Nitnendo's servers, because of the cross-play between platforms. Which means that you should be able to play without getting banned, since you can block Nintendo's servers to avoid the ban, and connect to Epic's servers normally.

Don't forget that we now have two whole generations of younger people who mostly do not understand how a file system works. They expect it to be like installing things on iOS or Android.
>>
>>564817969
I'm gen z. I don't know why we have a reputation for being tech illiterate when every gen x and older that I've had the misfortune of working with needed step-by-step instructions to copy and paste a file. A concerning amount of millennials have been like this too.
>>
>>564818420
Because you're the exception, not the rule. Case in point you're here posting on this archaic ass website. It's quite possible that broadband internet penetration took longer to reach your location than other areas. I first got it in 2001 so I have varied piracy experiences including burning cdi images to play on a Dreamcast.
>>
>>564818662
I think all anybody has is their anecdotal experiences.
I've read the articles griping about how gen z can't deal with anything more complicated than a smartphone but there's very little research establishing that there's an actual issue.
To me it seems like older generations looking for an excuse to bitch about younger people.

I don't live in Silicon Valley or anything but my area is a decently sized research and tech hub. Broadband internet has been accessible since the mid 90s from what my elders tell me.
>>
>>564819727
It's easy to observe. Younger people who don't have some tech related hobby have less of a reason to learn any of this stuff. In the 2000s piracy was so normalized that every normie you knew was downloading mp3s and burning their own CDs. Tech companies didn't try to abstract everything away so basic tasks like dealing with documents meant copying files etc and you learned it in school. Now lots of schools have moved to cloud platforms like Google Docs. Your experiences are your own but there has been a societal shift in how people interface with tech. When I was growing up most people had basic knowledge. But of course if I started talking about burning SVCDs to watch on my DVD player or the steps I took to softmod my xbox people thought I was some kind of crazy tech genius. I didn't feel that way at all because I was on IRC with people who understood all these things and thought of it all as simple.
>>
>>564820317
>I didn't feel that way at all because I was on IRC with people who understood all these things
I want to add one small but important thing based on this. My attitude towards learning new things was always these people are doing this therefore I can do this. So I'd jump in and figure it out. I'm really grateful that people helped me along the way and I did a lot to pass on what I learned from them as well. It's better now that there are things like the hacks.guide site and YouTube videos. But I'll never forget that absolute legend who spent an hour of his life walking me through the first time I ever flashed a Xbox 360 drive before jungleflasher existed.
>>
>>564820317
>Younger people who don't have some tech related hobby have less of a reason to learn any of this stuff.
Doesn't this apply to every generation?

I don't disagree on the shift in tech design but I think half of gen z is old enough to have observed it like myself. The other half, along with gen alpha, is smart enough to figure out how things work when they need to.
I know modding a 3DS is stupidly simple with the guide website but I think anybody that can follow along with it can probably figure out custom-install if they just read the readme.

>>564821057
Something I find funny is when people act like learning something is pointless because if you were capable of understanding it then you would already have that knowledge.
Like people on car forums unironically acting like they've known how to rebuild engines from the time they were conceived.
>>
I thought about selling my Wii U but I remembered it's going to be the easiest/cheapest way I can get non-emulated Gamecube games running with HDMI output. I could get a real Gamecube and waste money on mods/scalers etc instead but is that really worth it? It feels like most of the Wii U titles that are actually good are on Switch.
>>
>>564825797
I would imagine that there are some Wii U games that didn't translate very well to a single screen format, like how some DS games are shit on any other console.

ye, i'm 31 and routinely meet loads of my peers that don't even understand which button is the power button on devices
i'd say that this not only applies to every generation, but it applies to any social and work group, even people that are supposed to know their stuff. Like i worked as a technician for medical devices and the most common issue i had was doctors, actual phd medical doctors, not realizing the machine just isn't powered on, or that the very visible plug isn't plugged in

>>564817350
Because picrel is only a half-joke, so hshop is the more tard-proof option. I'm not even implying it's gen z exclusively, there are retards in every generation.
And also because the SD card slot for the 3DS is flimsy, so the fewer times you actually remove / insert the card into it, the longer it'll last.

>>564823417
>I think anybody that can follow along with it can probably figure out custom-install if they just read the readme
You basically answer your own question here, sort of. If it's in the guide, and people still come here asking for the best option to install shit, they get directed to the easiest option.
>>
>>564818420
As a millennial, I've had to be the tech person for everyone around me for over a decade. I don't think there is any generation in the club exactly, only that tech companies benefit from tech illiteracy because it allows them to add invasive shit or bloatware to their products and people buying it have no idea what they're buying. So it's something that's never going away.
>>

PS2 has component output so it's not the worst thing to use on a modern TV as long as yours has an input for it. Cables can be had for cheap.

go to 10.01 and use the youtube jailbreak
you can either load it from a backup, bzut you will lose all safefiles, screenshots and trophys
or you install the youtube loader from an USB image, but that requires you to have atleast a 512gb usb stick to create the image (256, but on windows 10 it sometimes doesnt shoe the actual 256gb on the stick and it wont let you create the imag)

>>
>>565040378
if they find a game with a exploit it needs to be connected to psn every 30 days so say goodbye to keeping that ps5 on outdated firmware making that exploit pointless
people on old firmware with entry points are safe
they are preparing for gta 6 they don't want a hack anywhere near that game
>>
Looks like Switch 2 is our only hope
>>
>>565041747
we can hope for a hardmod but Switch 2 was made for Nintendo and they had it under a microscope while the Tegra X1 was repurposed chip and they fucked up with the rcm exploit
>>
>>565041365
Is it only for PS5? I don't have one and more worried about PS4.
Also what do you mean if a game has an exploit? Like for online games? Don't you have to use Sony servers to play online anyways?
>>
>>565043142
the DRM rolled out to both ps4 and ps5
talking about exploit in a non online game to start the chain to get a jailbreak
funny how xbox got burned alive for trying to do this in 2013 but physical games are still ok

Oh, so basically a nothing burger for PS4. It already has multiple ways to get homebrew apps working.
Sucks for the PS5 though. I'm 100% sure it was because of the whole Artemis engine exploit. But doesn't the PS5 already have different ways to get a payload in it other than a game exploit?

Of course this has brought in the people screeching at anybody who was concerned about the DRM. As if Sony didn't do a horrible job communicating any of this to the public inviting the negative reactions after initial confusion.
>>
>>565202462
you mean there's people defending it? Like even for the "please think of the multibillion company!" people it would be retarded, cause this is the usual episode of
>people outside the law get everything for free (kinda, in this case)
>legit users get fucked in the ass
no one sane would defend this
>>
>>565205713
I think the license only becoming full after the allowed refund period has passed is somewhat reasonable. I don't think not communicating this to the users and doing a stealth rollout is reasonable. This was a completely avoidable PR disaster for Sony and the people trying to pretend everything is okay after the fact are indeed chugging corporate cock.

Is a PS5 with Linux more powerful than the Steam Machine?
>>
cant wait until the jews find a way to make linux illegal or otherwise halt all development
>>
>>565212742
It generates them too much money for them to do that. What I worry about is Linus dying and it all going to shit.
>>
>>565213091
he has barely any input in the kernel these days so I'm not sure him dying is preventing any changes
>>
>>565189715
I see this more as a mitigation towards save game exploits
>someone finds a save game exploit in some cheap PSN game
>works even on the latest firmware
>tells everyone to download it
>releases the hack
>there's now a 2 week timer between you downloading the game, and when you can still last run it on the hackable firmware
>if it's a hack that needs to be re-run on every boot, it's now got a time limit after which it stops working because the only way to get a legit infinite license for the exploitable game is to update your firmware which fixes the exploit
While not a perfect fix, I'd expect this to significantly cut down on the amount of exploitable consoles out there. It'll also pretty much kill the secondary market for "PS4 console on Firmware X.X with Hackable Game pre-installed" on sites like eBay and Facebook Marketplace.
Neat idea, Sony just needs to significantly improve their messaging because their lack of official communication about this is a fucking nightmare.
>>
>>565187496

A linedoubling option for PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3, if the normal and fullscreen (stretch) options can be changed on the fly for PS1/PS2 just like they can on the DVD player, then I don't think there is anything that should make it difficult to implement on PS1 and PS2 playback.

I was given a ps4 to set up for someone. I want to get one for myself so I figure this could be a good learning experience. It's currently on firmware 12. There aren't any games I'll need a higher firmware for right? Perhaps I can make the vue exploit work (ps vue and it's shitty security allowing me to watch the streams with a valid cookie to fetch the hls keys is greatly missed) but maybe burning a bluray is more retard proof and will make more sense for the person I'm handing this off to? I have a bluray burner I bought from Japan coming in a week or two so it's doable.
