I finally read Goddess Fall.It's a standard second act defeat. I don't think it was amazing but it's a pretty standard story beat and did a good enough job of both giving Eden a small win (Queen's first body is destroyed, minimal casualties) and setting up the final boss. None of the deaths were really handled in a disrespectful manner, everyone who died had at least a few scenes to explore their mentalities and give them meaningful send offs before they died. I'll admit though I don't give a shit about the Eden crew so their deaths were never really going to do much for me either way to begin with. Harran's death was a little weird, but mostly because her whole virus thing was never really explored well enough for us to understand the capabilities and limitations of it, something which really should have been set up better. Nihilister's death is weird, it feels fitting but it also feels like a waste given her character development in Goddess Fall. Isabel's death was fine. People cry about it because she was a very pandering and "4 u" character but the death was handled well, made sense and the arguments I've seen against it mostly just boil down to misreading the situation or coming up with massive copes.My impression of the event was always going to be painted by the sheer volume of discussion around it though. It doesn't help that I do genuinely think the Eden cast are scum and wasn't even really fully invested until the Kingdom cast (people I actually care about) showed up. I dunno, I feel like the biggest issue with Goddess Fall is unironically the fact that SKK isn't there. It's such a major plot beat and the main characters not being present is just really odd structurally. If you're going to have a midpoint act about loss, the main character should be there to feel said loss. I don't care about some stoic k-pop asshole feeling sad but not showing it out of autism.I'll give the doomers this, too. Last Kingdom made me feel more than Goddess Fall did.

But then there being an unknown amount of time before any of that is followed up on is pretty brutal, and I agree, makes their sacrifices less meaningful.And these are Pilgrims! The characters who are vastly overrepresented in the story vs. most characters. The game really needs better editorial and probably some actual planning.
