I know that in p3rd they introduce using it to start the strong charge combo, but what was the logic in letting GS kick with your weapon out before that when every other weapon can only kick sheathed? in gen 1/2 a lot of weapons didn't have anything going on for the same input you used to kick, so it can't just be a lack of moves, someone in mh1 deliberately said "yeah with big sword? you can slowly kick for 1 damage, not with sns though"

Nothing stops you, but when swapping they'll always use the type move they line up with. So let's you need power and your monster is speed, if you don't hev enough stamina to use one of your power skills you'll be forced to let them use the basic speed attack.
I don't think they'll use any of the basic attack types ever ether, so if they use a normal attack it will always be speed, power, or tech.

Monster Hunter is my comfort game. I like to just relax and do a checklist of gear upgrades and such. I mostly play for the multi-player since a lot of the players are fun to hunt with. Tldr; I turn my brain off and do various "chores"

remember when capcom decided switch axe needed an SAED without resourse requirements and that you could bail out of with a roll at any time and it needs to combo into a move that restores 80% of your meter and your sword attacks needed to cost half as much meter as world and it also needed a longsword counter with a one second wide window that restores 50% of your meter and also can be infinitely chained for infinite iframes

It's worth noting that a decent chunk of the base world monsters have event quests with guaranteed crowns, which lessens the blow a bit. And multi target event quests with boosted crown rates for a handful of monsters in base game and iceborne. But there's still some really annoying crown hunts outside of that.
Hope you can luck out if/when you do get to it! Kirin took me 250ish kills iirc (and an uncountable additional amount of size checking + abandoning quest), and Velk (who I haven't finished) has taken me 130 kills + a considerable amount of checking and resetting.

Kirin was an inefficient grind for a majority of that, but it was still bordering on crazy. I did a lot of HR investigations with 3 or 4 gold boxes unless I'm misremembering.

Playing the Classic Style Rise run, I'm going to refer to as the "Guild" run for simplicity and it sounds nicer. Aknosom actually becomes pretty interesting as a lot of his attacks can hit the sides of him, due to your limited mobility you'll likely get wing chopped, it's better to roll inside Aknosom for a better position and allowing you to avoid the attack. The fireball volly also becomes harder to deal with since the first couple can bait you into running into the next one. The dash is a perfect oppening for you to Sharpen and heal.
When enraged Aknosom's attacks after knocking you down can link into some kicks that can easily punish you for getting up to quickly as well.
This play style also resulted in me not going for all the large monster key quests right away since I had to focus on my resources, it was beneficial to go into a gather quests to get money and whetfish so I can sharpen.
I kept getting big whetfish so I'm limited to three sharpens a hunt
Rise is still pretty fast paced as well since you have a general movement buff not in a way that impacts combat negatively.
Overall Aknosom is actually pretty good monster to teach newcomers the ins and outs of combat. I love this fucker and I want him to return ina Monhun game without gimmicks that fuck him over six ways from sunday.
