Just how much louder is sprinting than walking? Also, what is your movement like in solos? I normally sprint from POI to POI but walk when in actually in the POI. I think this game lacks ways to effectively penetrate a room. So many times I will get to hauler and realize someone is on the second floor but climbing up to second floor is a fucking death sentence if someone beat you there. UPDATE: WTF WSTRs

We're gonna take a shot at bringing the WSTR more in line. Right now it's become a dominant option and is eclipsing a lot of the other short range options that exist in the game. SOOOOOO... as of Tuesday 4/21 (likely 8AM PT) the WSTR will no longer be able to down an enemy player who has blue shields or above with two shots. The ideal is that in a majority of cases this will force a reload in scenarios where the target has a blue shield, allowing for some more counterplay in these scenarios.

What Will Change:

- Change will go live Tuesday 4/21 in the morning. Likely 8AM PT.

- WSTRs can still down a green shielded target with 2 direct shots at short rang

- WSTRs will no longer be able to down a blue and above shielded target with 2 shots at short range.

We're still keeping an eye on a variety of balance issues. Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming and we'll keep hammering at it.

I mean something had to be done. It was the only gun you ever needed up close. Misriah and circuit breaker both completely outclassed by it. Cryo was completely and totally dominated by it, as is Outpost.

I think more importantly than that, they need to tone down snipers by adding bullet drop and travel time. Make it skillful not just point and click heads. But the whole game has fuck tons of balance issues to deal with; mainly most of the schema weapons being straight trash and being outclassed by the armory guns.

think of it like a heavy as fuck DMR, and try to get a magazine mod. Stuns the shit out of bots, you barely ever have to reload. Balanced shield lowers the weight so it doesn't slow you down so much.

It's not like any other extraction shooter in existence where you can stash 40 fucking guns in your vault, you get to store maybe 4 or 5 good loadouts before you're back to farming dire and outpost to take another chance at it. It feels like an endless cycle to accomplish anything in this fucking game, and when you do manage to do anything you can't take anything back to vault with you because half your backpack is ammo and consumables.

Only three normal maps through the whole summer is very retarded, no matter how good the game is, I don't I'm gonna play the same medium sized maps for more than 150 hours.
If the maps were Warzone sized, then yeah, but Marathon's are like a fifth of that.
Perimeter is like the smallest Warzone map, with less players per match.

I put 25 hours into the playtest, and 2 hours before refunding (more on my steam friend share) before quitting. 80% of the time you're put into a lobby where everyone's already extracted and there's only other rooks left. you have to repeatedly suicide to get favorable lobbies, and your vault just gets filled with dogshit sponsored kits that you to manually hold to get rid of each time. playing rook only is an entirely pointless and stakeless venture that exists only to waste yours and other players time.

You're wrong, the biggest modern FPS map is Verdansk, stacks still zip around, and rats still crouch walk within an area.
Marathon has the "I like kills, loot is not as important" audience.
A lot of battle royale players want to kill you just to waste your time(ruin your 25 minute match), a lot of extraction game fans want that too. They don't really want your ammo or gear.
For me, the most important, and pleasant thing in Marathon, is killing someone who hopes to complete the match, exfil.
There's a lot of spiteful people coming from BR's and extraction shooters. They will not stop because the map is bigger.
I would like bigger maps, because I wouldn't get sick of them as fast. I'd go to different areas.

There's people, like me, who don't understand this. I can get immersed in a games atmosphere, but I'm not able to get scared. Good dismemberment and gore, like in RE2 Remake or TLOU Part 2, can be a little disgusting, repulsive. A good, random jumpscare can spike up my heart beat a little. The game really tries to beat around the bush on basically everything to do with the specifics of being here but from what I get both the UESC and all the runners are launching from a single ship in orbit called the Equanimity
I have no clue exactly why we can teleport places but the UESC robots are using flying ships and shit to ferry troops, I really don't get how the entire conflict is supposed to be working from the onset (and I suspect Bungie doesn't either because every detail about how any of this works is pretty carefully avoided)

There's an assumption that they sent a squad into the Marathon ship itself since there's cracked helmets you can collect that could potentially be human, but other then that I think they're avoiding sending humans since all the evidence seems to point that Tau Ceti evolved to become hostile to human life, to the point you could just randomly explode if you walk near the anomaly or get all your flesh melted off by a tick. Even in Cryo with the Compiler and poison gas traps its probably better to let the bots or shells do the work.

That's kind of my point. The only reason to kit up is to risk it for the chance to get better/more gear, that's the extraction shooter loop. Except this game holds back all good sources of loot to one room on the weekdays, which you then have to fight teammates to split. It's like risking a $1000 bet for a $100 payout if you even win.

I went from risking my best loot in fill trios and having a good time in my first few weeks with the game, to now never touching fills and hoarding all my gear, dying once in solos, and no longer having any fun. The fill experience is atrocious now that people have gotten good at the game, and the level based matchmaking shit has to go.

This garbage freeshitter lobby mode also has to go. Without a lower skill player population, the normal game is sweaty as fuck and it sucks ass.

Perimeter has no loot. Dire Marsh is freekit land and normal queue is impossible. Outpost is unplayable also thanks to free kit land. Cryo is obviously out of the question.

What the fuck happened to this game.

i think the main theory is that the population is so low that the stronger are eating the weaker on repeat. you can see on this thread that people are getting matched with runners 40-70 levels higher than them.
the weak eventually get tired of getting farmed and quit, leaving more opportunities for the next in line to get farmed by those stronger.
in the end, most likely only the hardcore discord premades will remain

I’ve had enough of the game. That’s not a slight on the game, it’s been great, but there’s reached a point where even the loot in Cryo feels like ass now.

I guess that’s just what happens with extraction games? You reach these payout plateaues where picking up canisters from Perimeter isn’t worth anything anymore.

The compiler is also some sort of pipe dream for people without a dedicated pre-made trio who actively play together 5 times per week.
I have 170 hours now and I know how many more hours it would take to farm Wardens and Lockdowns and Red Key Pinwheel Rooms across the maps to get the remaining Cryo keys, successfully complete those vaults and then face the Compiler. It would take another 100 hours as a “core” player.

Bungie kinda made their own bed with Cryo Archive. The biggest threat in Cryo is not the UESC, but other squads looking to gank. I wonder if Bungie was afraid of making a PvE-heavy map with fewer teams because they don't want multiple teams farming the good stuff and then extracting easily.

Not once have I seen a fill player bring in anything other than a cryo 1 or 2 key. And even that was maybe 3 of all my cryo runs. I pulled a 5 off a body once but then a compiler gun team rushed us in the vault. Bringing actually rare keys into a fill run is an incredible gamble that you’ll get two competent teammates and that there isn’t a stacked premade rape squad in your game

Bungie really needs to hammer in that Rook isn't supposed to be some epic 1v3 MLG montage shell. 9/10 you're gonna just get murked by whatever 3 man squad(s) may be left at 15 minutes.

Something this game has really taught me was managing adrenaline. I rarely ever get adrenaline rushes(the curse of normal life I guess). So when I started playing this game solo, I was getting frequent adrenaline rushes because you go down and you are basically eliminated from the match. So many times I would become what I call "adrenaline blinded" and be unable to act effectively / accordingly to the situation and usually die anyway. I wouldn't call it panic but I wasn't able to aim correctly or even aiming in the right spots and my hearing would become almost to sensitive and I'd start thinking everything is foot steps or players trying to flank me etc.

Now, after playing for about 70 hours solo, I'd say I have a better handle on my own adrenaline. I can consciously think "Oh, my adrenaline is rushing" and I can reel it in and maintain proper control while making effective decisions. I don't think I have ever played a game that would allow me to actually do this. I think maybe long ago when I played Gears of War perhaps.

I am pretty sure Adrenaline making you actually perform worse in real life(situation depending) is a real thing too. Like people getting too jittery to shoot guns or do precise things. Which makes me think... if most soldiers in real life are trained to control their adrenaline, how does the military do it? It seems like such a specific thing that gets adrenaline to even trigger.

this is me right now, my inventory is fucking bloated because almost all I've been doing are free kit solo runs and now I can't really deplete shit, also I don't have enough ammo and shields/meds anymore and the credit costs for those prevent me from even using up all my shit in favor of more free runs between upgrades etc

Claymores are the best item in the game.

You can get really good at claymores wall placement and it shuts entire teams down. People can’t push, Cryo teams can’t gank your spawn early. You just put claymores on walls where they can’t get shots off oin it and you’re good.

The key to managing space is dumping weapon mods for guns you don't use much or even have in your inventory. I had nearly 2 and half rows of fucking railgun weapon mods. I have zero railguns in my vault. The next thing I would do is sell guns you don't enjoy. Then sell guns you don't have mods for. Like I have the volt sniper rifle and I hate that thing so I sold it.
