i have no clue if this is modeled in warthunder, but IRL, there is no such thing as a stationary radar signature for a helicopter - the rotor is the biggest radar image and it's constantly moving at a high velocity, obviously

note that it'll reset itself every now and then when you make any changes to your control scheme via the in-game wizard
you'll have to repeat the export import song and dance then
>>
>>563892492
Are there other changes like this or just this one?
I'd write a script but frankly for a single line change manual is probably faster given that I still have to manually do the export/import steps.
Either way thanks already. It feels like this would be something you use so much, any time it gets reset you'd feel it and just be reminded to manually reset it from that.

The merkava has a massive ammo bay that means its survivability at top tier is far lower than the BMPT which can only be OHKd in two frequently inaccessible locations. So I'm looking at YT videos comparing WoWs vs WT naval and they're still not explaining what's even different about the game beyond shit like graphics and economy. Do the ships have hard roles like in wows (destroyers proving spotting/smoke)? Are national differences big or small? What's the meta etc

bigger ships r stronger
smaller ships r weaker
low tiers = small boats
high tiers = bigger boats
naval in wt is retarded
>>
>>563925153
So high tier will just be all battleships?
>>
>>563925332
yeah
>>
>>563925113
>Do the ships have hard roles
Not really. Ships in War Thunder can only ever competitively fight against ships of the same hull type. When a Destroyer fights a Cruiser or Battleship, it has virtually no way to fight back except for hitting a lucky torpedo. There is no match in which you are better off bringing a Destroyer or Cruiser if you can spawn a Battleship, it is basically just a race to the biggest ship you can spawn, and at every BR the top ships all play pretty much the same way. A destroyer in a 4.3 game is played exactly the same way a Battleship at 7.0 is played. The only thing that changes is the range you fight at.
>>
>>563925113
>Do the ships have hard roles like in wows
the closest thing is the SAM equipped ships defending against Tu-95's and B-52's in top tier naval at the moment
>>
>>563925437
Cruisers and destroyers with good torpedoes can't make up the difference at all? And how does spotting work?
>>
>>563925703
>Cruisers and destroyers with good torpedoes can't make up the difference at all
not really considering torpedoes don't have magnetic fuse options for running under battleships and detonating under the keel

the only configurable thing is the running depth, and you can only do that before you spawn in
there is a vehicle modification for slower, longer range torps too, which can't even be changed IN BATTLE
>>

other than being boat on boat violence (with the occasional plane (or submarine in wows)), they're completely different games, and both are retarded in their own ways
WoWs is gamified to the extreme, WTs naval is a (very poor, half-arsed) attempt at (approximate) ""realism""
so if you're into (more or less functioning) gameplay, go wows. if its the ships you're interested in, WT.
also WoWs hands out freebies like crazy, Anton wont even spit in your face if you bought every premium ship

To add to the other replies, keep in mind that what is known as "WoWS" currently is a dying fork of the real game being (barely) maintained (more liked milked dry to be honest) by a skeleton crew that isn't capable of real development. Wargayming had a schizo episode in 2022 and cut all ties with anything Russian, which included the game's actual development team that continues to properly work on the real WoWS under a different name exclusively for the Russian market. You can still register an account, download an English translation on the forums and play it, it's not like chink games where you need the country's government ID to start playing, but I don't think you'll be able to pay for anything without third parties.
>>
>>563931829
>WoWs is gamified to the extreme
it's not. the pen angles are pretty good and the roles are good. the stupid part about the game is all the non dd bb gameplay is so unfinished and has been for a WHOLE DECADE. but it's at least refined BB caliber combat vs WT naval which is smoke and mirrors of a nothingburger

Can't testflight them specifically but there are user missions with custom vehicles that have nukes. Also if you use the Mission Editor (small button on the bottom left of the test flight settings menu) and start an Escort Bombers mission with Soviets or Americans on your side, you can select the Tu-95M/B-52H nuke carriers to be the bombers and they will actually drop their nukes. I recommend teamkilling all but one so your PC doesn't die from eight 1.2 megaton nukes going off at once.

I am new to missiles so help me understand this. From the 10 matches I had so far with a heatseeking missile
>friendly jet flies either sideways or with the front facing me (not the burning hot engine) at 10-15-20kms away
>heatseeker locks onto them
>enemy flies close to me, 2-5-10kms away, often times with the ass burning hot afterburning engine facing me
>no lock or i need to get so close to them i might as well use the gun to shoot it
Is the game designed that way so you can get teamkills more often because if that's the case then the devs should pat themselves on the back for this amazing trolling mechanic.
>>
>>563946882
actually anon the heatseaker only locks onto them if you drag the tiny little "kill this nigger" circle over your teammates plane

Here's the answer since the 5 retards here are too busy getting angry at each other:
An ally close to you or closer to the target often produces a stronger IR signature (afterburner, proximity) than the enemy you are aiming at. That's why even if a friendly flies past an enemy that's closer to you, the IR will often lock onto them and not the enemy.
>>

Star Conflict is shutting down on the 10th of October this year.

Soviet weapon doctrine was schizophrenic but it can't be anywhere near as schizophrenic as the M113 designers who didn't even know if they were making an APC or an IFV or a tank destroyer.

Give me a fucking reason why A-10C isn't going down to 11.3
It gets the same Mavs as the 10.7 A-10 Late
Is it the meme GBU-39s? Is it the AIM-9Ms? It's be ok if it was at least fast, but being at 11.7 guarantees having to fly 25km to the battlefield in a slow, subsonic plane. This makes no sense whatsoever. I think I maybe have seen A-10C spawn in a handful of times over thousands of games I've played

Yeah, anon, russian engineers don't know about other shapes for an IRST/EOTS enclosure even though they already did faceted IRSTs back in the M23, they don't have access to the internet to check other 5th gen images either. Faceting an IRST is some secret tech only special people like you have thought about.

>>563901004
Not necessarily. The IRST faces the other side when not in use, and that other side has heavy layers of RAM. They know about faceting so it was a conscious decision on not doing it like the F35/J20/J35 did, nor flushing it with the airframe like some sensors on the B2/21/F22. Whatever their criteria was, they think it's good enough. KF21 went the same route.

Technically speaking, a sphere will always have some a specular reflection pointing back to the source -- but specular reflections are only a single parameter on RCS considerations. An X- or S-band, or even VHF EM waves do NOT behave like visible light does. There are a myriad of other effects which affect the energy being propagated back, and all of those must be considered when designing a stealth craft.

The sphere vs faceting arguments come from an outdated way of doing stealth, nowadays design has shifted to a greater blend of techniques. Back in the F117 (also Have Blue, MBB Lampyridae) times computer power was way weaker than what we have today, and they had just limited PO + PTD understanding.
In fact, for the F117 they had to do RCS calculations on a FACET by facet basis. Each 'triangle' you see on the F117 was calculated separately for specular bounces ALONE (PO), then some corrections for diffraction were done (part of edge treatment) through the equations from Ufimtsev's work. All of that had to be checked on anechoic chambers and real radar ranges for final validation.
Back then, what they did was direct all energy away towards a selection of directions, which makes for gigantic RCS spikes if you ever saw a faceted design on a RCS graph. 1/X

I get many people here are actually retarded and have not even read the basics such as 'ATF to F-22', but maybe other people can benefit from the info.

>>563901004
For modern designs, pure faceting went away in favor of curved shapes that approximate pure faceted forms -- from a desired angle. Check the F22 from the front, the curves approximate a faceted losangle, but it is still curved shapes making use of other techniques such as continuous curvature and continually changing radii. Those were impossible to calculate back in F117 times, and it is written in 'memoirs of my years at Lockheed' that LM would only begin to compute curved shapes in ~1986, before that they had to create curved shapes IRL and test the shapes' RCS manually on a radar range.

Anyhow, the modern way of shaping an stealth plane is not purely concentrating super high RCS spikes in some selected directions (although that is still part of it), but rather doing an statistical analysis on an AREA or ARC of interest. As long as RCS on that selected area is below a threshold, it is good to go.
That is, 'over these +-15 degrees from nose on, we don't want any signal over XX dbsm, use the next 10 degrees for all those reflections instead, then, all the way to 90 degrees sideways, keep the signal under YY'.

An RCS graph for a 5th gens does not look like the F117's. In fact, rumour is the F-22's looks like a pair of butterfly's wings (likely with 4 bigger spikes). All simulations so far from commercial software agree to the butterfly shape. There are still a few bigger spikes from the planform alignment going on (almost all edges on sawtooth panels, leading edges, canopy cuts, rudder/stabilator edges, etc., on the F-22 are angled to a 42 degree angle, when you look from above).

Btw, an image showing that even the F-22 has specular bounces (quite visible from the tip of the radome almost all the way to the top of the canopy, under visible light) 2/X

we don't actually know the front-average rcs of any 5th gen jet, am I right?
>>
>>563968304
Correct. All RCS numbers from tests/lab are secret. For all frequencies, for all aspects.

We only have simulations, one document from the UK archives (referencing the frontal RCS for some aircraft, including the F-22, but the document dates from a time the Raptor wasn't in production yet -- likely the number was the program goal, which was met and/or surpassed), one document from Riccioni (where he concedes the F-22 indeed manages a bird size RCS, but only from the FRONT, at CO-altitude, and against enemy fighter radar, so X-band likely) and the quotes such as 'golf ball size', 'marble', 'pebble', and more recently 'smaller than a human hand' from the J35.
From those 'pebble' quotes comparisons people have tried to calculate equivalent RCS spheres (the 0.0001m2 you see around the internet).

Good as commercial software have become, we still don't know about RAM quality, RAS, and other details that influence RCS. What we can have from those is an idea of what the RCS general shape looks like (where to expect spikes and such), but the numbers aren't super reliable.

At some point I was going to make 3d models of 5th gens based on photogrammetry or on gaussian splats (reconstructing a decent mesh on top, of course, since splats don't make 3d models by themselves), precisely because I saw no 3d models online that accurately depicted details such as that splitter plate -- I don't think the official game models will do it either, even with the pics I posted.
From those 3d models I'd run simulations on Ansys. I gave up when I saw the costs for running simulations there (and licenses were also lmao wtf priced), besides, I thought it was just too much work just for Gaijin to ignore it.

Welp, I guess to end my reply on stealth.

Specular bounces are only part of the story, when designing stealth craft you have to consider other interactions from EM waves. When looking at EM/Object interaction things are generally divided into three categories: the Rayleigh region (waves larger than object), Mie regions (similar size) and the Optical region (waves smaller than object).

Specularity happens mostly in the Optical region, but there are nuances such as the roughness of the surface, which can cause specular reflections to become diffuse scattering. Of course, engineers will play with that to avoid specular bounces.

Planes can be divided into features, each reacting differently to different bands, and all that must be taken into account into the design goals. A rudder might be in the optical region for X-band radars, but might be in the Mie region for an L-band radar, causing resonance effects and thus being detectable on radar. A flying wing offers advantages in this by presenting less features for different bands to interact, and being larger, means you need larger EM waves to achieve resonance.

Anyhow, from what the literature says, for the ATF/F22 program they were interested in X-band in the frontal arc, since that's what you'd face in an air superiority fighter. It's probably the same for the F35/J20/J35/SU57/KA21/Turkish 5th gen.

There's plenty of books on the subject, if one cares.

in planes without S-ducts, the engine intakes / compressor blades are the primary radar return.
also, even just the engine nacelles would be a bigger radar return than sukhoi claims in that patent - the su-57's real radar return is undoubtedly similar to canardless flankers

anyway, this patent is about the su-57. it is the only plane sukhoi makes which uses this feature. when they say "the aircraft" they are referring to the su-57. hence why they drew a su-57 there.

I find that unlikely, you're assuming one thing that isn't a given, and one thing that isn't true: that the dome behaves as a near ~PEC material, and that specularity rules RCS for spheres. That IRST dome, even when facing forwards, is likely dieletrically matched to X-band through coatings (reminder that the SU57 canopy was said to contain at least 10 different layers of special materials), while of course being transparent to IR.

Even if it were PEC, at the Optical region a sphere's RCS starts behaving as ~=pi*r*r -- not because of specularity, as only a very small portion of a given sphere points their normals at you (one, technically). On a 'pure' sphere, the biggest RCS contributor are creeping waves: EM energy that travels along the surface until they irradiate through whatever means. On the SU57, this is again not a given, as the IRST sits in front of that weird tunnel containing part of the mechanisms, and that can act as a EM creeping wave diffractor. The change from transparent dome to the backside could cause diffraction.

Anyhow, if that IRST dome is 15/20cm in diameter, that's a ~0.0177/0.0314m2 RCS (reminder, as a PEC material). Far from that 'hundreds of times higher' claim than the 0.001 claimed around -- but 5th gens aren't made all of metallic aluminum panels like 4th gens were, there are composite panels on those skins, tuned lossy materials that can damp creeping waves. My point is we don't really know and most of the SU57 talks are just hatred and F22 blind fanboyism.

As a note: the UK doc puts the F-22 RCS (frontal) at 0.01m.

Russians know about RAM, RAS, S-ducts, edge treatment, matching impedances, continuous curvatures, curves with changing radii, flat nozzles and so on. All of that has been public knowledge for decades. They've been toying with stealth concepts for decades. Some of the F117 parts from that wreckage were also said go on to Chinese and Russian hands, so they would know about those RAM (iron ball / early ferrites).

Personally I lean on the F22 being stealthier for practical reasons, not theoretical ones, as the general knowledge on stealth is available nowadays.

your entire post is ChatGPT vomit for "b-but the IRST has radar absorbent material on it"
not only is that only true when it's facing backwards, but it also has very little effect. radar absorbent material is for enhancing a design which has stealthy geometry, not for magically turning an unstealthy design into a stealthy one. you can't prevent a 10MW radar spotlight from frontally illuminating a sphere just by painting it dark. the su-57 is an unstealthy design, sukhoi has said so themselves, its designers have said so themselves, they have always said stealth was a secondary concern

>F-35 EOTS
It has great stealth geometry where all the angles are aligned with the airframe's own. Russia didn't do this because the Su-57 isn't a stealth design. 1000x higher RCS than the f-22 by Sukhoi's own admission.
>>

Are you aware that they've been putting RAM coating on 4th gens for decades now?
>>
>>563994825
>aligned with the airframe's
Nah, it's just a faceted design, which according to you, can't be stealth because there's no such thing as doing treatments such as impedance matching in transparent surfaces. All EM waves are going in and reflecting into those parts inside, freely. The edges there are also not diffracting EMs at all.

I mean, like other people said, go read a book.
>>
>>563995184
>Are you aware that they've been putting RAM coating on 4th gens for decades now?
some of them, particularly the ones which are modestly geometrically stealthy (enough that it justifies the cost of RAM)

entirely depends on how much money you have.
anyway, it won't make an unstealthy plane into a stealthy one, if that's what you're coping at. you can not put RAM on a su-27 and think it will win a radar fight against an f-22.
>>
>>563996043

Russians just make better ram coating so they don't have to, that's sreally what it's about

There was a lot of contact between Nazi and French engineers. Your pic was actually designed by a Nazi Austrian engineer named Helmut Zborowski. The Dornier aircraft company, which created many bangers like the Do 335, was created by an ethnically French engineer, Claude Dornier. Nazi wunderwaffe had a lot of French influence:
>Ladungsträger Goliath tracked mine
This was based on a WW1 land drone that the French were developing (Adolphe Kégresse)
>Englandkanone V-3 Cannon
This was based on a WW1 French multi-chambered cannon that the Nazis captured
>Uranverein
A lot of early fission research came from French scientists like Frédéric Joliot-Curie. The Nazis probably wouldn't have discovered fission without their work.

After WW2, the French had their own version of Operation Paperclip. Former Nazi scientists helped France develop ATGMs like the SS.10 and the SS.11 (the RakJPz 2 uses this) and the Dassault Mirage was heavily influenced by Nazi jet propulsion scientists.
