Loved the ultra refined gameplay, the gigantic playable cast (50!) and the True Reverie Corridor is the single best dungeon in an RPG, which is no wonder why Falcom based the game around it. Just an absolute ton of fun content and basically a huge celebration of the series as a whole. >Worst: Trails from Zero. The game gets repetitive very quickly. Small stakes, tiny party of only 4 main members, the worst Trails MC and very little location variety. Easily the worst Trails game to do the "NPC sweep" where you talk to everyone after every story event to see their updated dialogue. Mind you this is a rather unpopular opinion among the Trails fanbase. And that's not just counting the story, but the games as a whole. In terms of pure narrative, I'd maybe say >Best: Trails of Cold Steel 1&2, which are basically two halves of one story arc. Sky FC&SC are also up there. I also really like how GFL2 leans more into urban sci-fi, whereas the first game was just military sci-fi. Both good tones, but I just find urban fantasy a cool genre. One thing I don’t like is how the gacha system and banners in the second game mess with the story pacing and characters. You’ll have Leva’s very intense thriller of an event story but then afterwards the overall story sort of freezes and all of a sudden the next story event is about Qiuhua or Florence or whoever and some festival or some trippy kidnapping or something completely disconnected from the main story. But Mica Team has to have a whole story revolving around these secondary characters because they need to shill them to you so you roll for them. They can’t just keep the story going with the main cast and just separately keep pushing out new characters over time like in the first game. That’s one thing the first game does better than the second. PNC had a similar problem too but it was slightly less bad about it. Fun fact: Hot springs in Trails actually have a gameplay purpose, they fill up HP/MP/etc, so in some games you're basically gonna be soaking your party pretty often. I've essentially finished my reread of Muramasa (Chachamaru's role in the story has concluded) and God. I love her story and her arc and her character so much.
