Elden Ring is the A Link to the Past of this generation. Both games released early in their decade (91 vs 22) Both were a followup/polishing of previous entries works and pushing it into a wider/larger open world scope.I believe Fromsoft are next up going to make their true magnum opus, their Ocarina of Time level game that will never be topped by them, and Miyazaki will be too old from this point to be on the ground level to ensure further quality and consistency and the company will start backsliding after this point while still putting out ok games.Their next game will likely not be as open and large as Elden Ring, but not as closed off and tight as Demon's/Dark Souls, it'll be in the perfect goldilocks zone. It'll have Nightreign teir itemization with randomised gear with rarity, socketables like gems that balloon build variety and potential into diablo 2/poe levels and more weapon types, playstyles and build options than ever before. I think your character choices will matter more, you will have some kind of character skill trees or things that are more personalised, like the differences between being recluse vs wylder but in their usual souls format.It will be the arpg to end all. It will have the itemisation random loot crawl people that enjoy Diablo etc do. It'll have sekiro tier quality of combat, elden ring level of character customization, armour and clothing dyes (which they didn't get to do in ER but wanted to).All of this and more and it won't have any microtransactions and battlepass or any of this stuff and be regarded as the last truly good videogame before we enter a dark ages of brain drain, unreal engine and ai slop.

That was a very similar situation though but I would argue that Demon's Souls was just their Zelda1, and a bubble around 'Dark Souls 2/Dark Souls 3/Bloodborne' was their Zelda 2 just kind of over a series of in-kind games. Elden Ring pushed it beyond those, in ways too large/big for it's boots and will now contract back to the comfortable spot. They will never make a game world as big as ER ever again I believe.
