Her motivation in my story is well ironed out by her part in her mothers death and the complex need to redeem her kiseki power of reading the divergent laws with the knowledge that doing that will basically immediately remove joshua from her family. Her final solution to this in my mind is to, as you mention, become the antagonist, and therefore prevent joshua from leaving, but after she accomplishes that and escapes with the aureole she can't really go back to liberl because that will immediately undo all of the work they did to save it from the erebonians fists. All thats fine and dandy and clean, but after that then what? what is estelles new goal? well the only thing on the table is going to make her as much of a fufu wouldn't you like to know testing your resolve type character that most don't like, but i think at the very least it does more to provide structural reasons for kisekis asspulls. thats why I think snek would use that determination a lot but not in a way that would immediately ever be overt force like the lance maiden. Infact probably the lance maiden would be sent after her and end up defeated. Estelles entire point is how she changes characters for the better and she basically turns testing someones resolve from a humiliation ritual to a way to advance the story for characters, such as throwing dunan out instead of cucking to him and causing him to, inadvertantly though through divergent laws almost certainly, wind up in the care of the ravens, and then getting defenstrated by agate, basically turning the start of his character arc way earlier and making him take an active role against the mayor of ruans eventual scheme against his new commoner groupies who actually are frustrated about women too. shes not just doing that alone. shes doing it to position kloe as able to date blackfang joshua without turning it into an international incident.
