What weapon are you using? Sometimes you find stuff that's way overpowered for your level. Like I found a bunch of quantum-edged combat knives on Kreet doing a bit of exploring during the fucking tutorial. They would have one shotted ~everything for the entire early game. It was absurd.

The difficulty is completely wack regardless, but the gear you find can seriously trivialize it even further. I need a serious combat overhaul.

That was most likely a Deserted UC Listening Post. Unlike space combat, which is purely a credit/skillpoint/level sink, ground combat allows you have access to end game weapons from certain low level POI's, though the newb trap of them (outside the melee you discovered) are that they use ammo with absolute horrible ammo economy. But, there is a POI where you can find an Advanced Regulator, another with Advanced AA-99's and Solctices (right next to those quantum knives in the same POI) and another where you can get an Advanced Big Bang, all right off the bat at level 1.

iirc it was an abandoned mine POI, with a little camp area outside and a bunch more like it inside. and basically every camp area had another quantum-edged combat knife. extremely silly, but god-tier value/mass. i just considered them a nice little credit infusion. can't be fucked using any weapon that is not suppressed, semi-automatic, and scoped.

I hate the story and general writing but like other aspects of the game itself, I wish someone would just do an overhaul mod replacing the story and the Starborn shit with something involving a New Vegas style story point conflict but instead of over the Hoover Dam it will be over a system with a planet with a one of a kind resource or something while at the very least toning down the ESG era DEI checkboxes. That sort of mod isn't likely to happen there aren't enough modders interested in Starfield anymore Elder Scrolls and Fallout retained lot of modders while many modders for Starfield left after 3-6 months of the game's release. Some of questlines are least half decent like Ryujin and Crimson Fleet but I generally avoid or get through the other ones quickly on a run.

I think it would make more sense that a "Chunk-To-Go" would be more like a space UberEATS. What doesn't make sense is lot of the stations you can visit don't have a commercial era with restaurants like Chunks especially the Clinic you think a section of it would have a commercial section for trade, dining, a hotel for people visiting patients, etc but no. Corporations would take full advantage of that with stations that are practically canonwise small orbital cities.

The game has always been wonky with how that works/is presented. I think that whomever you have following you doesn't take up a slot, so technically the default is 3+1, so upgrading your Command skill makes it 4+1. Robots like Vasco seem to sometimes take a slot or not. But yeah, the number on the ship part that says Crew is just what it adds to the hypothetical maximum tally.

That might either be an issue with you relying on quick and autosaves too much which can cause issues (relaunching the game and loading from a full save usually fixes things), or you have a lot of mods and have hit the BA2 archive limit bug which has been made worse with the Free Lanes update, you can mitigate that by extracting the archives and have the game load them as loose files instead.

The skill chart doesn't have builds or classes. The game simultaneously pretends i can focus on ship activities vs ground activities in the skill chart but gives quests that ask me to do both all the time. I'm tired of reaching level 50 and watching my skill points slow to a trickle while still feeling like I've barely scratched at all the perks I feel I'd need to finally start playing.

Skyrim catches a lot of shit for being unfocused and permissive but at least it still has the core structure of fighter/mage/thief that allows you to tackle the same problems in different ways conducive to your build. There is nothing equivalent in starfield. Focusing on planetary exploration and surveying in the skill chart does very little to shade the activity of clearing abandoned outposts.

Find a level appropriate planet, or realistically one that's in a system 20 levels higher than your since combat is piss easy. Find one that supports alien wildlife. Now go on a safari. Killing a pack of herbivores will net you like 500exp. Standing on a tall rock and sniping everything you can spot from that place will give you like a third of your experience bar.

Na, after the blowback from the Tracker's alliance creation, there's even LESS chance of them trying to expand upon a DLC in another paid creation. The fact they released, for free, all the missions they were originally going to charge for individually, as an update to the vulture package, shows they're done with that kind of idea.

There are very few must have skills. Most are just nice to haves. There is also a fair amount of noob traps that cause new players to waste points on things that end up not being very useful. The combat tree for instance is something you really only should be putting points in when you have literally nothing else you care about. You'd think it would be one of the most important but 20-30 hours in and you start to notice most of your damage is coming from your powers and your weapons are just finishing off the leftovers.

I have 120 hours in this game and this hasn't been my experience at all. It's so much quicker to melt fuckers with guns than rely on the powers and I don't have any combat skills either. What powers in particular are you talking about?

Phased Time which allows you to clear a room of enemies with them barely being able to react
Gravity Well and Create Vacuum for crowd control, especially if you use them simultaneously
Solar Flare to melt enemy health if you hit them with it two or three times
Grav Dash because it increases your damage output for 15 seconds (up to 2x at maxed rank)

You're right it's not really damage it's just using things like anti-gravity field in the early game and your companion just blasting away and chucking nades. Powers do a lot of heavy lifting and investing points in to crafting instead of combat is just a better use of points.

Since I doubt there will ever be a Starfield 2, I want to try and make my own.
Would probably rely a bit more on procedural generation though, and have the graphical fidelity of something like ESA Redguard.

I think due to TA's smaller scale mod, we're going to get a handful of packs like FO4s Automaton with a small quest and then an add on to core system.
Your Outpost DLC concept is the perfect example. But they'll spread it into 5 or so themed packs. For example:

Basically FO4s minutemen mode, adds pre built outposts that can be commandeered after a small radiant quest. Providing a launch off point for the settlement system since I haven't seen an RP reason to mess with it in vanilla (besides getting Lin off my ship)

Building actual settlements over time with quests gating progress (like bethesda has done in past games) seems like such an obvious thing that it had to have been planned and scrapped for the first release. There's so much you can do with the mechanic and the various factions.

Yeah, there's no way selling it at $2 makes sense. Even back in the 2010s making a single new texture could cost several thousand dollars due to how expensive game dev was in the US. The only reason games can get away with selling for $70 is becuase they are expected to sell a lot of copies. Something like a creation has a much lower sales total, and so would need to be priced proportionally higher to break even/make a worthwhile profit. This is why you rarely see shit like that under $5.
