Hey so, about that weird version of deltarune I played? I finally finished the first two chapters and I think it’s fair to say I really enjoyed it! It was funny, charming, heartfelt, epic. No wonder game is so popular! I just don’t know why it’s so unlike all the gameplay I’ve seen online…. I don’t know if I downloaded a romhack or some rare secret no one else ever got, but whatever it was it was still as fun as the normal game. I think this thread overstates the amount of evidence for Dess truly being abusive. Whiffle bats don't really hurt. The dialogue in her room about Kris feeling their head hurt looking at the ice skates is occasionally uncharitably read as Dess kicking them or throwing them at Kris or something, but it's almost certainly just to convey the process of falling down over and over when you're learning to skate. In ch2 with the swatches there's dialogue about remembering the cool breeze on the ice pond or something to that effect which is beside other memories like snow on your brother's nose or the crunch of a cold pickle, positive family memories basically. The weirdest thing with her is her watching MTV with Kris, and honestly only because it is a little too reminiscent of a famous book called Perks of Being a Wallflower where that was the same setting that a kid got abused in. But it seems likely Asriel would've been there too. So the best access Dess had to Kris alone would've been when teaching piano, which Kris doesn't seem to have any negative associations with. Also we do have a little confirmed dialogue from Dess which is the snow angel poem on the website, and Dess seems like a perfectly well adjusted older sister in that moment. Is there evidence im not thinking of? The parental controls code seemed to be because of the MTV stuff, Toriel is probably a very conservative mother when it comes to media stuff.

It's crazy for Toriel to drop that line in chapter 1 mainly because I already heard of Ralsei so I assumed that Ralsei is the sole DR counterpart of Asriel, similar to Kris being a partial anagram of Frisk, or Suzy and Susie. So learning Asriel also exists as a separate character is like "huh?"And the bits we get of their relationship is great. Kris's throat tightening when drinking the hot chocolate Asriel would buy them. Taking the money from the drawer and then seeing "you have taken enough". Kris closing their eyes opening Asriel's queen room. Etc. He doesn't feel as exciting right now simply because the story isn't particularly about him. There's soooo much else in Deltarune and he's very, very, very sideline right now. And not only that, Dess stuff in 3+4 has eaten up some of Asriel's uniqueness, because for many reasons Dess is now perceived as just as important an older sibling figure to Kris, and if Dess is in some form the knight then Dess has pretty much supplanted Azzy in Kris's life right now.
