There aren't as much Reapers as I thought there would be, but mesmer stocks went up. Also, too many green faggot "mains" now

Just getting back into it after quitting pre SotO. I'm at chapter 16 in the expansion before it so nearing the end but I'm struggling to pick a main. Most of my time has been on revenant but I'm itching for something different. Are either of the other heavy armor classes more fun? Otherwise I'd go likely with ranger or engineer. I have little to no interest in the casters but enjoyed reaper necro for a while years ago.

I've also apparently got a decent bit of gems still, 8 have mistlock, copper fed, and the rune crafter along with infinite gathering tools on a couple of characters. Is there any thing else that stands out I should pick up?

Should I focus on staff/staff condi mirage or power chronomancer as a new player? I bought the HoT/PoF combo to keep my raptor shortly after I started (wasn't sure if I'd stick around for the complete pack to be worth it) but I'm still going through LW1 and completing maps for hero points and I dunno where to focus first. After I hit 80 I used the level boost to get a full set of celestial gear and also used AA points on an ascended sword which I applied berserker stats to as I figured it would see the most use across various alts/specs for the time being.

I've read that power chrono fits in virtually all content and that its gear can be transferred to most other specs (and works for core mesmer while I'm filling out chrono), while condi mirage is purely a solo class and its gear isn't particularly transferrable (especially since condi virtuoso needs crit). So it makes sense to gear for a power chrono first, I think. I'm not actually doing any group content though aside from Triple Trouble though. All I see in my immediate future is working through the story and unlocking hero and mastery points. Does this mean that shooting for an ascended viper's set for mirage first would be a better foundation? The reason I bought up having the exotic celestial gear from the level 80 boost is because I also wonder if perhaps I should just use that as a condi mirage while farming for power chrono ascended gear and ignore viper's entirely.

tl;dr power chrono for versatility or condi mirage for soloability while I'm unlocking content?

Focus on unlocking Auto Loot mastery. Last 1.5 parts of LW1 story require other players and the content isn't super popular, so you should think about skipping that.
Doing full Heart of Thorns story will give a set of Exotic stat selectable armor. You can choose viper stats there.
Celestial works better with condi dmg, so probably some kind of mirage open world build. It's not necessary to highly specialized gear to progress.

Yeah, I came back after 10 years off, with just the base game and Heart of Thorns on my account, and the game gave me a free raptor at level 10 that never went away.

I couldn't customize it, dye it, invest in masteries for it, etc, until I bought Path of Fire, though.

I was very confused by all of the commanders telling us to use raptors to "suck in" enemies because I had no idea that you unlock a mastery that turns the raptor's attack into a vacuum. I just thought I had overlooked that functionality.

Unironically, mounts rape the devs' stated intention of never adding vertical power growth to the game with expansions.
I 100%'d the core tyria maps and HoT maps, then unlocked all of the core tyria and HoT masteries before buying PoF, and the quality of life boost from unlocking more mounts and their masteries was MASSIVE.
It has been far more impactful than going from rare equipment to full ascended. Having just a Springer has allowed me to catch so many events I wouldn't have been able to reach in time with just a Raptor. It's 100x faster to complete Core Tyria and HoT maps with PoF mounts, too. It's literally p2w when you can just jump up to a point where you'd otherwise have to spend 5 minutes fighting veterans and running a mini-jumping puzzle to get a vista or mastery point or something.

As someone who was ADDICTED to trying to make deadeye work let me tell you it nails the fantasy perfectly. The problem is its just not made for the game that GW2 is. GW2 has so many mechanics and running around in its high level content, there isnt any way to just sit far away and snipe in most encounters. In open world it can be pretty fun because you have such a huge range, the largest range any class has for its basic weapon abilities.

The real answer is once they give you weapon unlocks deadeye with shit like daggers and spear because absurdly fun and strong because you arent fucked by trying to lean into the rifle playstyle.

Rifle is SO cool, but also just so bad on thief. I want it to be good like you wouldn't believe. It is cool that the kneeling 3 just provides infinite Vulnerability stacks though.

Better yet, show me the video of you doing what I asked with ANY trait setup. I doubt the difference between 2-2-2 Deadeye and any other combination is big enough to allow a Deadeye to solo a champion bounty without the champion attempting 100 attacks during the fight.

Did they remove the animation lock with it? I never liked that about sword/dagger, same with offhand dagger for ranger. Youre right about the on-demand stealth with skill 5, but theres plenty of other stealth options as it is. Pistol 4 is spammable for burst CC and pistol 5 is an excellent aoe option for trash mobs, its absolutely amazing for stomping mushrooms during Chak Gerent since the mushroom adds that spawn will knock you off the platform with every one of their attacks.
