The initial free warbond and the very first premium warbond they shipped the game with had weapons in them that would always serve as justification for why the weapon customization system could never be fully realized. Rather than putting slugs in the Punisher you had the Slugger. Rather than putting birdshot in the Breaker you had the Breaker S&P. Rather than being able to put incendiary ammo in the Breaker you had the Incel Breaker. Rather than being able to put AP or Concussive rounds in the Liberator you had the Libpen and the Lincon. These guns were all made in a functional modular weapon customization system they have had in the background since before launch. A user-facing version wasn't ready until a year after launch and two years after launch it's still buggy and barebones as fuck but it has always been there. But they decided to sell us noteworthy customization options as variants from the get go and will never walk it back. And why would they when they can sell us variants? This very warbond is going to sell us a copy of the Knight (a 20$ gun) that shoots AP3 rounds in a smaller mag rather than giving us AP3 rounds for the Knight. The only interesting weapon attachments have been sold as built in proprietary attachments to warbond weapons without being added to the base system. More recently in an interview Johan Pilestedt the original CEO was asked about mech/vehicle customization and he lied and claimed that he would lovebto put that system in the game but also said that because they had already given out two different Mechs to players they can't walk that back either. A blatant lie but again why would they when they can just sell us Mechs instead of giving us a customization system? Arrowhead is rotten through and through it didn't start with Shams he was just a good fit for them.
