bg3 is renowned for its romances, but that's in part due to the fact that they have unique cutscenes, unique endings, unique scenes like the circus, and unique buffs like the statue. If they had put the same effort into reactivity for romances, but with set preferences for the characters, I don't think it would be worse, and could have been better. Mechanical reactivity to romances is something games should absolutely lean into more. That's one thing bg3 did well.I prefer the way dragonage/mass effect, and now owlcat, do it. I think a character being gay, straight, or bi can be part of their characterization, and everyone wanting to have sex with everything feels videogamey. It's less immersive.
