ngl, I think it was just the kind of mind virus meme that goes everywhere. It was never really not a "dead meme" because it became popular first mostly among middle schoolers who watch variety streamers who like basketball. Tracing its meme etymology reveals it was always incredibly normie coded, to the point parents didn't mind their middle schoolers doing it as a sort of SFW gang sign. Whether you do it ironically or not, it has all the things necessary to make a true society wide brain bug. Teenagers and adults did it to make fun of the upcoming generation, and old heads did it to make fun of them. Nothing about it has any real meaning to anyone, making it completely inoffensive.

If you make a group with "first time story" it will fill rather quickly. Alternative paths are rare, people only sometimes do them for armor skin unlocks or currency. Dungeons can often take a while, have a lot of puzzles. Each new character needs to redo the story versions to unlock paths also, so people don't bother on alts.
Most players do Fractals, which are real dungeons, unlocked at lvl 80.

I guess as a sylvari you will probably gain the most out of that specific dungeon. Mb even do all other dungeon path for that one. There are lore and characters to meet. Nightmare court and your race is tightly related to story events, up until Path of Fire expansion.
Other races also meet characters from their story in respective dungeons. But while all these people do appear later in the main plot, they have minimal impact. Dungeon storyline is a continuation from prequel book, game kind of assumes you've read that. Without the context it's just random people bickering about the family drama you've never heard of.
GW2 plot has this problem in general, where your character behaves like he knows a lot of people and events, but they were never directly shown to you, the player. For example you meet Trahearne as sylvari very early. But other races don't cross paths until mid-late story. Sylvari and humans have the best plot integration, asura are alright, norn and charr are the worst.
If you are curious, do them. Very quick and simple first time through, with at least 3 people group. Empty your bags in advance, drops a lot of loot. Just be prepared to be like "who are these people and what are we doing here?"

Dungeon stories are a lot more coherent if you've read the prequel novel Edge of Destiny, which is about Logan, Rytlock, Caithe, Eir, Zojja, and Snaff and set a couple of years before the vanilla story.

You should try to do daily raid bosses as well if you want to build legendary insights for the armor. If you're just aiming to get legendary armor in general and not the raid armor for specifically glam, I would suggest to look at getting Obsidian armor instead. It does get better at max. However enemies will become much more aggressive, demanding attention.
For now:

Most of the group content can be soloed even while leveling, with proper setup, albeit slowly. Not everything tho, it's still aimed at Groups, needs at least 1-2 low lvl players. Rarely you will encounter a Group Events that are more of a open world dungeon encounter. Like massive poison plants with aura of dmg. bounties and bandits, World Bosses, layline anomalies or purple rifts etc. Those will one-shot you.

Some advice:

Prioritized vitality gear, celestial gear is the pinnacle of leveling gear.

Prioritize abilities that clear conditions. As a solo leveler, condition cleanse is PEAK for surviving a difficult situation.

Prioritize weapon combos that scale well with power and stack as much as you can.

Get good at dodging. Many of the big 1 shot attacks are from pools of shit on the ground or big wind ups with obvious tells.

Additionally, no one is really a tank in this game, except for maybe things like Necro and Spectre that have a second health bar that lets them eat a move that's supposed to 1 shot you. The game isn't really built to have tanks at all in fact, it's simply not a role in this game. In some very specific raids, enemies will target the highest vitality player but its more part of that specific Boss than a general game mechanic. You are supposed to dodge and perfect clear enemies more or less, which can feel weird because some of the telegraphic is a bit clunky and visual clarity isn't the best.

If you want to "tank", try playing a Healer build if your class has access to a spec for it. You will clear maps slower, but almost never die.

That 90% of the magic of GW2 is crossing paths with another player while fighting and momentarily joining forces to make the fight easier, but PoF turns every fight into a stomp where you either blow up every enemy in seconds or the enemy blows you up in seconds, thus destroying the window of time where players might meet up and help eachother out?

That and every PoF mob having a 5 billion light year aggro range with ranged attacks which knock you off your mount in 2 shots.

This isn't stellar blade, dude. Your dodge has a 3/4s evade window and bosses can't be CCed unless you empty their break bar. Part of not dying is not being in the damage zones when they happen. Combat isn't that hard to figure out.

There is even an advanced strat where you run through enemies at a slight enough angle that you escape the cone of the attack before it happens. Or you can take the dumbass shitter route and go full marauder/dragon, heals and barriers, and zakiros relic.

Even if we assume you're right, it doesn't fucking matter because my argument still holds up if any sizable chunk of the population is made up of shitters.

My argument is essentially that the time-to-kill between players and enemies on PoF maps is too short. Either the player dies the second they fuck up or the enemies die in seconds, so there is no period of time where players are fighting that other players can join. In HoT, over and over again you see people soloing champions and it takes them a minute or two and they spend the entire time between 20% hp and 80% hp. If they fuck up 3 times in a row, they die. So they have wiggle room. They can fuck up, then heal, then fuck up again, and as long as their fuckups aren't happening faster than their heal CDs, they're fine.

PoF is fucked because you die when you fuck up or you burn down your enemies. There is no in-between. It's a binary state. That means there are no opportunities to get help or to help others.

That's why 99% of the non-meta group play on PoF maps is people tagging up, saying they're doing bounties in map chat, and standing around until they get 1 or 2 people to help.

The game would be better if you could solo bounties, slowly, to create opportunities for people to jump in and help as they pass by.

If you want people to spontaneously group up in the open world you must make open world challenges forgiving enough that players can spend time at them without getting deleted and without facerolling their enemies.
Otherwise people show up, kill or be killed immediately, then move on. You MUST introduce a delay in there where people can TRY to solo the content or else nobody will ever see a window that makes them think, "Hey, I can join them and we can beat that event/enemy together."

Nearing level 60 with my warrior and having fun but already thinking about other characters, I noticed the shield does very little for you as a warrior, seems a lot more useful as guardian, and I like the look of shields, might make one

Shield is better utilized on support specs for Guardian and Revenant, Engi can use it too but realistically you're going to be using somethign else for an off hand. You might Ranger, but that depends if you want to be more of a hunter or pet archetype. Holosmith is actually good, it's just more complicated to play and the amount of effort you need to put into it is more tedious compared to the lazy green faggot spec for it - that being Mechanist. If you want a more well designed pet class, Mechanist is a better pet class that Ranger

Okay, serious post: I see everyone complain constantly about how boons work but the lack of a need for tanks (a role way less people want to play than is actually needed to have healthy group content as seen in every other MMO ever) to me is just a good thing. And I say this as someone who enjoys tanking. I've never played another MMO where "utility characters" are actually a normal meta role. The fact that instead of tank, healer, dps we have aheal, qheal, adps, qdps, cover all the boons makes making a party a fun puzzle and feel like everyone is bringing something to the table. Playing boon dps spectre has been a dream for me because its fulfilling the fantasy of the jack of all trades utility character I've always wanted in an MMO but never really got to be.

If anyone saw the post Log Horizon, the main character specifically is playing a class that does no damage and just has a bunch of weird buffs and synergies with other classes and its a role that is so underserved in the major MMO market. WoW kind of tried to lean into it with one of the dragon subspecs.

Would you prefer if GW3 is just back to the boring Tanks, Healer, Dps style party compositions and gives up its unique party structure?

It would fuck up the different game modes. In PvE they're intended to be always-on everywhere that it actually matters, in PvP they're short-term buffs meant to be used to push engagements at specific times, and in WvW they specifically want to minimize Alacrity because when there are that many players you don't also want their skills to have really low cooldowns.

The only actual PROBLEM with them in PvE is that it kinda sucks to play without Quickness, and at this point between classes that have self-Quickness traits, Jade Protocols, and classes that can do self-Quickness through Relic of the Pirate Queen, it's only an issue for a handful of specs.
