I don't see how Rivals' existence would matter. The real issue is there's nothing left to do with Blaze as a character. The first game was very clearly made as a one off story, but she was liked enough for a sequel. The logical thing to do with a Blaze sequel is to go to her dimension instead of her coming to Sonic's.
